The recent history of the CH and UNC Police seem to go against the beginning of this statement. We don't need to go back to the 1800s for examples of a too aggressive police force (Jame Cates anyone?). Just this past year we had Police showing racist tattoos while protecting ACTBAC members who brought guns to campus, officers clearly lying in court about disconnected body cams and violence towards Silent Sam protestors. Multiple recorded incidents of police becoming violent with student protestors on campus (their home for most of the year). An officer beating a student after he tripped over a Lime scooter someone else left on a sidewalk. How about the town work towards a *radical* change to policing. No funding of chemical agents, no funding of batons. No chokeholds. Clear and concise guidelines for even putting a hand near a weapon. No "SWAT" teams (remember the Occupy mess that Carrboro handled 1000 times better than CH?) And by god, no hiring of officers with racist tattoos.
