My Amish neighbor called me on my way home from work and asked if I would like to record the demolition of a silo. Here it is. Enjoy.

An easier way to support tomato plants!
Переглядів 6954 роки тому
Indeterminate tomato plants can be difficult to support. In this quick video I explain how I've been supporting my plants over the last few years and why. Another thing that makes this system great is being able to regularly tuck new growth into the mesh that has wire spaced every six inches. Sorry for the poor quality video. :/

Extended - Uncut - Amish Barn Raising - May 13th, 2014 in 6 minutes & 40 seconds

This four frames a second version of the original barn raising video allows the process to be seen easier. Uncut except for a couple of legible license plates on vehicles and a buggy with people in it. I hope you enjoy the longer version.
An Epic Tomato Sauce and Pasta Hack---Cooking pasta IN Tomatoes---Straight from the GARDEN!
Переглядів 72810 років тому
I brought in my last big batch (around 8 to 10 lb.) of tomatoes and thought I should share how I deal with them when I don't feel like freezing or canning them. Please, bear with the lame video and lack of good photos...you may end up making the BEST PASTA EVER :) Pasta with fresh tomato sauce doesn't need to take more than an hour to make!! Remember you shouldn't can tomatoes that have ripened...
Ohio Amish Barn Raising - May 13, 2014 - IN REVERSE

A quick reverse version of the video posted in May. There have been several people comment that they would want to watch the barn raising in reverse. Once I find fitting music in the youtube library it will be added to the background.

My husband, Scott Miller, shot this video with a Canon 60d Camera using a Pixel TW-282/E3 Wireless remote timer set at 20 second intervals. He shot 1600 pictures from 7:00am until 5:00pm and compressed the 10 hours into 3 minutes and 30 seconds. He even took the day off work to help :). The music in this video was found on the free youtube music library. It is a song called Cruisin', by Scott V...

This seems like a much easier way to stake up plants. We use to use this type of cement rebar, but we would make hoops out of them and that was a pain. This seems like a great way for cucumbers too. I am going to try this next year. I just have two small beds now, and need to make the most out them.

I'm not an expert, but I don't think that those are Amish. I see the use of a LOT of color - wouldn't they be some other flavor of Mennonite? Not that it really matters - gotta admire their work ethic!

This looks like a stick framed building rather than timber frame. I would be interested in the roof trusses and how the loft is built and supported. Any inside pics?

That was incredible! Great work. There must have been a lot of panning and preparation for that to run so soothly. Great way to build a barn and build community. Congratulations to all involved.

Wish they showed the food the women set up for the men...It looks easy as doing up your boots and go to it...But this took many hours of planning and cutting material and stocking it all just right...The older hands are also teaching the younger ones as well...My father was first rate at doing this stuff with not as good a crew as they have here...God bless them all...

It's amazing how they all work together. I grew up near Amish country in Upstate NY and I have always been amazed by their lifestyle. I'm sure they have problems just like anyone else, but they do practice what they preach.
