    It looks lovely and very high spec. Though it seems insane to me that the battery can’t be detached for recharging. You won’t always be able to lock it near a mains supply, so rules out people who go on cycling holidays and need to lock their bike, take off the battery, and recharge in a hotel room. Or am I missing something ?

    • @UpriseBikes
      @UpriseBikes 12 днів тому

      Yes you can remove the battery for charging!

    • @garvE17
      @garvE17 11 днів тому

      Thank you for your reply. I can’t see anything in the user manual though about doing this. Instead it’s to plug the charger into the bike. They have a detachable range extender, but that’s not what I mean. Can the internal battery be taken out of the frame for recharging as well ? Thank you.

    • @UpriseBikes
      @UpriseBikes 11 днів тому

      @@garvE17 My Apologies, the reply was for a comment on another video, No unfortunately you cannot remove the battery for charging on the Diem. In Instances where you would take the bike on holiday with you you would probably need to contact the hotel or venue before hand and discuss charging areas with them. Most will have a foyer but you'd need to discuss it with them. There are lots of other bikes on the market with removable batteries if its a deal breaker for you, but by using an internal battery you make the frame a lot lighter and stiffer, so it handles a lot more like a regular bike.

  • @AlvaroQF
    @AlvaroQF 12 днів тому

    Glad you liked the bike. Lots of love was invested, it is still the only alloy hardtail with internal storage in the DT (far from easy). I think that it has not been mentioned in the ideo, but the rivets under the TT would be great for tool straps. I hope that the video gets more deserved views and likes.

      Thats exactly what those mounts are for well spotted! You could also get a pump fitted too. Recently Knog brought out a new light with an external battery which can be mounted to those bolts so you could run a front light and bolt the battery to the TopTube!

      You'll find that's the case with a lot of eBikes, especially ones with independent displays and remotes, The Brompton's seem more prominent because they aren't internally routed but allow the frame to fold in the same way the non assisted models do, its still pretty neatly organised!

    Nice review! ; for 50-70 km rides with some road and trail mix (mostly trail/xc), do You think this is a better pick over they new procaliber 8? In my country they have similar prices, but I like that You can store small stuff on the frame.

    • @UpriseBikes
      @UpriseBikes Місяць тому

      @@zaico93 I think it depends on the kind of trails you usually ride, the Procaliber is very much a cross country bike for tamer trails or XC racing, The laufey is aimed at Trail/All mountain riding. It's more at home on blue and red graded trails with more challenging features and steeper descents. It will still climb very well and be comfortable for long rides but the trek will be more efficient at covering distance all day.

    I have a 2019 E160 800.... which is still a fantastic bike to ride.... However.... The motor packed up out of warranty & could not be repaired, BECAUSE SHIMANO WILL NOT SELL YOU THE PARTS.... A replacement motor cost me over £1,000 when it was done by my LBC 3 years ago. God only knows how much it would cost to replace an EP 801 motor outside of warranty now... However good the new E160 might be.... It wouldn't interest me to buy it, or indeed any other ebike with a motor that cannot be repaired... I am therefore going to retire my old ebike & buy a new one with a Bosch motor, which can be repaired at a reasonable cost when it eventually fails outside of its warranty

    • @UpriseBikes
      @UpriseBikes Місяць тому

      Sorry to hear about this Issues you had with your Ebike, Unfortunately motor failures are not limited to one brand, my own eBike has the original Shimano ep8 motor and has covered nearly 5K miles and has been faultless, so I wouldn't overlook a specific brand just because of its motor. In terms of repair, no motor manufacturer we supply will sell parts for their motors except a motor cover for the bottom of the frame, this is because they don't want customers without the relevant training or experience attempting repairs themselves. What you may find is that depending on how far out of your warranty, the mileage and usage of the motor, you may get a discount for returning the old motor, but this is something you would need your mechanic at your LBS to look into for you. Outside of unofficial 3rd party companies you wont find brands offering repairs on their motors, just replacements. Hope this helps!

      Thanks for the comment! Its a really tough one, there's so many great "hardcore" hardtails on the market right now, we also reviewed the Orbea Laufey which goes toe to toe with the Big Trail, both have amazing features, components and they both ride really well, both come in at a similar price so it would come down to which features you prefer. I rode the Big Trail at a UK trail center and it was the complete package, was a fantastic climber but was also great fun on the descents. The lower spec models are great value but the Rockshox Pike fork sold it for me, even as the base level fork it felt very supple.

      As soon as our Amflow demo bikes arrive you can bet we will be doing a review on one. We tested two alloy models of the eONE SIXTY and a few staff members have gone on to buy the CF model based on their experience riding the alloy. They loved the overall performance but wanted to go for the lighter more agile ride feel over the extra weight and range of the alloy. Most of our riding here in south Wales is pretty steep and technical and the weather is unpredictable at best. Fortunately the Merida Bikes are very well made and can handle the local conditions.

  • @sikorek85
    @sikorek85 4 місяці тому

    I am considering buying that bike as 2nd for flow trails, pumptrack, trips to work or even XC races. It looks so light. Do you think that 50km trip is possible on that machine? Of course on less aggressive tires. For enduro I go full suspension.

    • @UpriseBikes
      @UpriseBikes 4 місяці тому

      Make no mistake this is an aggressive trail bike, so its not going to be as competitive at XC races as an XC bike, if you're looking at bike packing and longer distance XC riding, the bike will be certainly capable of it, from there it's just down to your fitness. Nothing stopping you riding to work with the fork locked out then hitting trails after work, or loading it up and going camping and exploring. The purpose of this style of bike is if you only have room for one bike that needs to do a bit of everything, but with a nod to steeper descents. So yes it will do everything you mentioned, just don't look to it to be an XC missile, unless you're the missile, in which case it won't matter what the competition rides!. All the best.

      Ive had a similar revelation recently, had a trip to the Forest of Dean trail network in England on a very similar bike to this Laufey [see another of our recent reviews ;) ] I did 15 miles with 2000ft of climbing around what was quite a small area and really enjoyed the bike on the flow trails, but was staggered at how well it climbed. I'd convinced myself on the size & geometry of bike I needed for years but having tried a few longer reach models, I can honestly say its a way better ride feel.

    • @UpriseBikes
      @UpriseBikes 5 місяців тому

      Only thing we could suggest would be fitting the largest volume tyres the Brompton can accommodate, and running them near the lower end of their PSI range, should provide a bit more comfort but you do run a higher risk of punctures.
