Sehr gut! Eine tolle interpretation ! Dieses Werk kann und muß man mit einem großem Chor singen. Und dieses Gebäude hat eine sehr gute Akustik!

This is a fine performance by a college orchestra but there are issues of intonation, diction, and phrasing that are impossible for me to ignore. Too many artistic liberties with dynamics and articulation as well. I don’t think the soloists mesh particularly well and the brass is apparently incapable of blending. Perhaps I’m spoiled by period performances or professional orchestras, but I feel like a good many of these issues would and should be cleaned up.

Themes are INTENTIONALLY underdeveloped in this symphony because of its programatic nature. Richness of musical creativity in Williams' music is abundant and the fact that themes are not developed in a standard sonata-form way does not at all invalidate the geniality of this piece. Pay attention to orchestration, for example. Besides, this Fifth Symphony is a heart-touching tribute to the folk music of Argentina. In any case, if you want to find excellent examples of Williams as a "typical formalist", honoring having been pupil of Cesar Franck, listen to the two Concert Overtures or the Eigth Symphony,

The best overture piece ever written, Poet and Peasant. When l was young this music has been the signature piece at home, and even now it's still the favorite music when l am relaxing at home.

An amazing and genial theme, but totally underdeveloped: it didn't create an atmosphere, it doesn't have an internal logic, it starts well but goes nowhere, it doesn't do what it promises at the beginning, without its own style... totally dull and emotionless. Now it is understood why Mozart is Mozart, Bach is Bach and an anonymous Argentine is an anonymous Argentine, although creative, but without the necessary brilliance to have been an immortal of music. Alberto Willians looks like be better on piano works instead orchestra. On time: the orchestra is great and did their best.

Me gusta mucho esta sinfonía. Es una representación de diferente formas de despedirse de la vida. El segundo y tercer movimiento les faltó más acción, más energía.

Ahhhh! OK Lenny is Lenny and his Mahler 2 recordings of him (sorry, I mean Leonard Bernstein if you could not tell) put on UA-cam are sublime, they are beyond sacred to me. But to be fair, this BYU symphony orchestra is the recording that changed my life. At an intensely difficult time, it made me feel the hope of the Resurrection. Made me feel life could go on past this. Yes, I actually had been a lifelong member. Taught and been taught the lesson so many times, but this made it break through more effectively somehow. 🤷🏻‍♀ Since I know what the performers know of the eternal nature of our spirits and families, it made this such an intensely powerful sermon. I stayed up late to record it off the TV one night in 2010, and it was when I had little kids so that was a big choice for that time. That VHS tape is still one of my prized possessions. I cannot believe it is on UA-cam!!!! Still keeping my VHS as a backup.
