What happens when your grip strength is affected by former broken fingers, as I have? Using grips causes pain in my right hand, so lowering my ability to grip well with my right hand! A study into heart rate may prove more worthwhile exercise! I am now 65 and during my youth I was involved in many sports and activities, so even today I have a low heart rate, averaging out at 52 BPM at rest, which is unusual for my age group! I consulted doctors about this and they told me it was a sign of good health! I am not a medical professional, so I would like to know the research on this point and it may be connected to hand grip strength also?

This is a great question. You are right to challenge the study when it comes to pre-existing conditions or injuries that negatively impact one's ability to build grip strength. In these cases, like you have pointed out, it is important to remember that there are other measures that we can track to understand our health and biological age. Heart rate is a good starting point, but Heart Rate Variability is even better. HRV measures the variation in time between heartbeats. HRV is controlled by your autonomic nervous system (ANS), which also regulates your breathing, blood pressure, and digestion. A higher HRV is generally associated with better health and fitness, while a lower HRV can indicate stress, illness, or overtraining.
