    Still not working for me. Why is the simple process of cutting and pasting so unintuitive in Melodyne?

    • @MichaelWuerth
      @MichaelWuerth 2 дні тому

      Sorry it’s still giving you trouble! Most times if it isn’t working for me it’s bc I have a waveform selected within melodyne. Make sure to click outside of the wave forms (in the white and grey space) to deselect all before pasting.

    Seems like I cannot find the right way of printing a Stem. Stem should be only 1 stereo track with all individual tracks from that instrument group. I hope you will see this and reply. How to properly export Stem if my signal flow is Audio track > Aux > Stem > 2 Track > Print? Let's say I have 8 drum tracks (Kick, snare, toms...) all going to an Aux Track (Drum Bus) with some processing on it, then Drum Bus goes to Drums Stem and then Stem goes to 2 Track (Mix Bus) that have processing on it and then it goes to Print (Stereo Out). My concern is that processes on the Mix Bus won't react the same if I solo the Stem for printing as they would react to a whole mix going through. I hope this makes sense

    • @MichaelWuerth
      @MichaelWuerth 5 днів тому

      This is a great question and unfortunately, you're 100% correct - mix bus processing is reacting to the entire mix and will react differently if you solo stems or groups of tracks through it. I recommend printing your stems at the source (kick, snare, etc) as well as at the group (drum bus) and give whoever you are collaborating with both options. Mix bus processing will always need to be a combination of all tracks, and happen at the true end of your signal chain. In that case, might be best to screen shot your settings and note your thought process for whoever you're collaborating with to apply on their end. Hope this helps!

    ooo thanks for that key command! i was hoping this would make things easier and faster! i've been using pro tools for 25 years now (well on and off lol) and i never knew about this. granted most plugins i automate i have already done in a template setup (reverb and delays mostly) but this could make some effects a lot easier. if i was doing EQ automation i usually just make a special region for it and do a region based effect for it, but for EQ sweep effects this could provide useful, though i don't use those that much in my productions.

    How did you get it to work that long without it crashing your DAW? I can’t use autotune for more than five minutes without it completely freezing my session. As soon as I looked it up, everybody’s having this issue apparently, but you didn’t. How?

    • @MichaelWuerth

      I wish I knew! I’m pretty sure for the sake of this video I was only really running it on a single track. When I’ve got auto tune on a bunch of vocals like backgrounds and harmony stacks it definitely slows down the computer, but bumping up the buffer can help there!

    You people out there don't be afraid of doctoring up all those bimbo wanker singers for the simple reason that once the whole world sings perfectly in tune that's when the novelty of perfect pitch will wear off and become so pedestrian that the first dude that releases a song slightly out of tune is going to be a total hit. For the same reason punk music could never have happened back in the 50s when everything was lo-fi but it was a huge success in the 70s.

    Sorry if this is a silly question, but I’m fairly new to mixing. If you have a stereo aux track as say an instrument sum channel or a bus for other processing to a group, that track just has audio running through it but it’s not physically represented on the track in the session right? If you wanted to include one of these in your stems, would you then have to arm the aux track and print it? Would you do this in a normal session even if you weren’t sending stems?

    • @MichaelWuerth
      @MichaelWuerth 3 місяці тому

      Not a silly question at all! Thats a really good question. So you are correct that Aux tracks are sort of pass through tracks. They don't contain audio as you cant record to them directly. But they're great for sending audio through as either busses for groups, reverb and other effects, instrument tracks etc. I don't normally print my effects in a mixing session unless I was sending them off for someone else to mix and then yes - you'd need to print them as a "Reverb Stem" to have it be included. I will sometimes print instrument tracks though as a way to commit them and future proof a potential plugin not working with later versions of an OS or something. That way I have my sounds committed to audio files and not stuck in midi going through a plugin. Hope that helps!

      @@MichaelWuerth this is incredibly helpful and detailed thank you! Your channel is fantastic! for your snare or overhead example, where you have two channels blended in one, you one have to print that blended aux track first? Thanks again!

    • @MichaelWuerth
      @MichaelWuerth 3 місяці тому

      @nicholasvegas2899 thank you! In those cases I print both snare tracks (top and bottom) on their own, and then print the group (snare aux) as well so the mixer has the option to make their own combination, or use mine if they prefer.

    Great stuff, the actor-singer analogy is a bit of a reach because an actor’s occupation is literally to pretend to be something they’re not; otherwise they’re literally not acting. For vocalists it’s the complete opposite, their occupation is to be themselves in the rawest form-their voice. They’re expected to be authentically them, displaying their true capability as a vocalist. If THEY are acting then they’re failing at their job. In short, an actor is SUPPOSED to fake, a vocalist is not. I’m not against vocal tuning btw, I use auto-tune & melodyne to clean stuff up, just felt the need to expound on that comparison.

    • @MichaelWuerth
      @MichaelWuerth 4 місяці тому

      I appreciate your respectful point of view, and good point! I think for me it just comes down to the medium of a recording vs a live performance.
