    4 hours of storage on a flywheel of that shape? I don't think so... Flywheel storage systems already exist, and they are used purely as a carry over for things like data centers to keep them running long enough to start a generator. You can't fool physics, this is a scam.

    So a bigass flywheel that needs extra careful manufacturing, is by definition extremely heavy so hard and expensive to ship, has a linear charge and discharge curvature making it hardly usable for practical energy storing compared to batteries. Yeah this sounds like a pump and dump project. Only situation where it would make sense is an isolated, small consumption household. But then it doesn’t since it needs to be shipped and installed making it prohibitively expensive. In which scenario does this make the slightest sense compared to batteries for household energy storage and water dam for large scale energy storage?

      At some point i was like "i mean, in theory it works, if the materials used are cheap enough it could cost less to make than a lithium battery, and if the discharge works well enough, then it's not a bad project" And then you mentioned SHIPPING the thing, and i was like "oh." Aren't lead-acid batteries dirt cheap, rather powerful and with a pretty long life ? (And not that difficult to recycle, you melt the lead and neutralize or recycle the acid). Lead batteries are heavy, but pretty compact and definitely easier to ship and use in a home. It's pretty much just car batteries, and it's old technology at this point.

    You guys seem to have an amazing product, but no clue about marketing. First, you are going to HAVE to change that name. "Qnetic" has to be one of the worst names I have ever heard. It needs to be easily pronouncable, and even better if it's fun and bubbly to say. Words like "google" or even "bubbly" itself. Definitely don't try to start with a scientific idea "Kinetic" and morph that into something. Even something like "Massive Energy" would be better than "Qnetic" when you look at that it's not obvious how to even say it. Next, dear god hire some actors, you two are no on camera personalities. Main guy you were alright, but the outfits and fact you sat in chairs during presentation....you guys just need people who know what they are doing to handle the public face of this idea. You two are not it. UA-cam is the right idea, but you need cool visuals and youtubers who are passionate about this stuff to be contacted etc. Real life miniature demos with the side cutaway would be cool. A little info about your composite would be nice, I know it's proprietary but what IS it? Is it plastic? Metal? It looks weird in the render.

    That's quite a low radius for what's possible with that volume of material. You should consider increasing tensile strength of the rotor material which in turn allows for an increase in radius.Velocity and Radius are squared terms in the energy equation, so I would consider optimizing for those to get the most energy density possible.

    • @creative_cooper
      @creative_cooper 11 місяців тому

      Yes, I am aware that the pods are installed underground. Considering the long-term goal of having as many of these installed everywhere, one must account for the effects of a catastrophic failure. The defunct Beacon power from a decade ago had a couple of their flywheels fail catastrophically, due to their high rotor speed and size (google search "beacon power flywheel explosion" for the story). Qnetic proposed flywheels and energy density are atleast 3x to 5x larger than Beacon's, so I really do wonder if the effects of a catastrophic failure can be controlled to a certain degree, especially if these are installed close to residential areas.

    The issue I have looking at these kinds of setups, is that a flywheel holds more energy the wider it is. A 300 pound flywheel that's over 60 ft in diameter, will hold far more energy than a 300 pound flywheel that's 60 inches in diameter. However, air friction is a real problem, making it harder to vacuum seal a 60 ft flywheel when compared to a 60 inch one.

      i think the qnetic's flywheel techniques allow the energy to be in kinetic form instead of chemical form. The flywheel has a big rotor inside, and it has a kind of magnetism bearing and vacuum environment. So the kinetic energy of the rotor will not lose through friction. Besides, the rotor has a maximum speed limitation. The kinetic energy can only be converted into electricity through a motor.

      Hi @KayakMike1000, thanks for your comments! Correct, flywheels are an ancient technology but it has never been done quite like Qnetic before. Most flywheel energy storage systems are actually quite small, both in capacity (e.g. 32kWh) and physical size (e.g. ~1.3m tall). less than a minute into the video and an inaccurate statement. Wind and solar are not cheaper than coal or gas when all aspects of connecting them to and supplying a grid.There are other costs that are over and above than the so called 'Levelised cost' and the fact that there has to be an equal, reliable and immediately available alternative source of generation at all times. How accurate will the rest of the video be? While inertia is an essential part of generators feeding a grid, which renewables do not have, it's function is as a damper to keep frequency stable. Real frequency support comes from controlling the conventional generators fuel supply. Reserve power can have a place in this particularly where relatively large amounts of input is required which can be pumped hydro or chemical battery. Simple inertia as a source of energy storage can only have a limited duration before frequency falls too low. However good the bearings of an inertial system is, once power is removed it slows down, dependent on the friction and load applied to it. Essentially all the talk of transitioning away from fossil fuel generation is an illusion and will never happen by using renewable generation. It's practical and technical deficiencies make this unworkable.

    • @dt00map
      @dt00map Рік тому

      While flywheels can be used to provide inertial damping, this is not what Qnetic does. The energy discharged from Qnetic passes through an AC-DC/DC-AC power converter so the speed of Qnetic does not affect the frequency of the grid. Anyway, thanks for your comments.
