My 2024 Backpacking Gear Loadout!!!
Have you taken this pack as an international carry on luggage?
I have not!! Have you?
@@GearGarden no, I have not purchased a pack yet and need something that is versatile, comfortable, and most will be able to be scaled down to fit into international carry on. I have an Osprey farpoint 40 that is extremely uncomfortable with any weight but checks the other boxes
I've got the same pack and I LOVE IT! It can't handle as much weight as my heavy duty Osprey (Aether 60 plus I think??) but it works wonders with an ultralight kit. Packing it right plays a big role in this bag from what I can tell. I've had the same problem with water bottles so I'm switching to shoulder bottle holders.
Ok I’m glad I’m not the only one who has had as much water issues! Haha it works ok if I’m going on trips where I’m super dialed and bring minimal gear, but the big trips with a bigger bear can it’s harder! I love this pack though dude. It might just be becoming my new favorite. It’s so hard. This thing is a true work horse! What do you like most about it?
@@GearGarden Honestly, I just like the simplicity of it and having somewhat confidence that my gear won't get soaked in some light rain. I'm planning my first ever thru-hike of the Appalachain and I know the weather tends to be unpredictable on it. I kinda just wish it had some extra straps on the bottom to attach a foam sleeping pad...
@@dmar0652 that’s so exciting dude!! I’m jealous!!! I would love to go out there! What year you bringing???
@@GearGarden That's a really interesting question because I'm currently re-thinking most of my gear for the trail. Right now my big three are the big agnes tiger wall 2p, nemo tensor insulated, nemo switchback, nemo disco sleeping bag, and hyperlite southwest 55. I'm considering switching that tensor pad out for a gossamer gear 1/8" foam pad and just stacking the pads. I'll switch the disco bag out for an EE Enigma quilt. I really want to trade out the big agnes tent for a durston X mid 1p pro but I'm not sure if I'm ready for that investment yet. I'll be setting off this time next year, so the temperatures will definitely be colder but that tends to be how I prefer it. I did a bunch of summer backpacking this year and it just wasn't nearly as nice as the fall and winter season for me.
@@GearGarden I'm actually still in the process of finding a hiking buddy so if you know anyone planning on hiking the AT, please lmk.
how long have u had the rapide for? have unhad any issues?
I’ve used it consistently for almost a year now. I love it, no issues! I for sure recommend it
Good review, thank you for posting it.
I've been using an inexpensive Sleepingo. Has worked for years for this casual. Looking to upgrade. Thanks for the info.
Ooh what campground is this?!
It’s up in downiville!
Nice video! I’ve got the 2015 model of this tent, and it has held up beautifully. It withstood an all night windstorm on the slopes of Mount Hood a few years back. Absolutely incredible that the tent did not collapse. Not only that, it was not even damaged. Did great on Mount Whitney, also. Considering upgrading to the new model based on your video. Thanks!
Highly recommend 😎
Let's Go!!!
Excited to hear what you think of it. Saw this product on a FB ad, saw the price and specs and assumed it was a scam. So cool to hear that it's a legit operation so close to home.
Yeah it’s super legit!!! I highly recommend!! Thanks for watching!!
What a great product! The water proofing doesn't really bother me, I'm usually rocking a waterproof pack cover anyways since they're so handy
Definitely considering this one! Wanna stay under 3lbs, freestanding, and a bit more room than my Outdoor Vitals Dominion 1p - footprint included all in 3lbs 3oz.
This one is perfect my friend! They are on sale currently so I’d jump on it asap!!’ Thank you so much for watching and subing 😄
@@GearGarden Thank you! And quite welcome :)
Hi Harrison! New sub here. What site # was that at Sky Camp? I have backpacked within Point Reyes several times. Sky Camp is next on my list :)
Site #5!! 5 and 6!/43 by far the best ones!!
@@GearGarden Thanks man!

Currently moving houses. Sleeping on my foam backpacking mattress because I'm scared to death to punch a hole in my Air Mattress LOL
😂😂😂
what kind of foam backpacking mattress?
@@fabianperez4189 It's a Nemo Switchback...Not as comfy as an air mattress but more comfy than a 1/8" pad I suppose.

Great review guys!
I have the 3 person, love it! I wish it had magnets to pull back the doors and netting. I love the magnet system.
Yeah idk why all tents don’t use magnets! Those are the best way to roll up a door!!
Nice setup, looking forward to getting a Pillow Strap out to the giveaway winner! Sleep well out there everyone!
Thank you guys so much!! Can’t wait to pick the winner soon!
Super solid kit! Love camping by the high alpine lakes, just left Willow Lake in Colorado Friday night, so beautiful! Hope your trip is amazing!
Thank you so much!
I like my double walled Durston X-Mid 2 but for sure get the appeal for a free standing tent which i take from time to time since the pitch can be hard to master. Any thoughts on a backcountry bidet? Have a blast!
I have a Xmid as well! I love it! Could take that too! So what should I do?! Haven’t had a bidet yet! Is it worth it?!
@@GearGardendo whatever you are most comfortable with! I don't have the Copper Spur but heard great things. I like the Culo Clean bidet, lightweight, threads on a water bottle, and helps me feel more clean. Less toilet paper, but even if you don't use it for 💩, can rinse off to make yourself feel a bit cleaner. Sounds like an awesome trip, enjoy!!
@@annalisadiaz7911 going with the Tarptent dipole DW 1!! I have seen that! I’m glad to hear that it works
@@GearGarden sounds like a winner! Cheers!
Bag it! 12,279 !!!
Oh I will😎
CONGRATS LANE! You won the free pillowstrap!! I’ll send you the info!
Stay strapped my dog, I've been looking forward to this video and hearing about this trip!
Honestly I'd do a trekking pole tent when the stakes are lower
Title seems to say ‘one trekking pole tent’ while it requires 2 poles
It’s called the one because it’s a 1 person tent! Yes it requires 2 poles!
no stramps hmm
I love gossmer gear accessories. Problem is 100% of the people I know that have those packs (who love them) call them sweaty backpacks. They could learn a little something from Osprey as far as back ventilation.
I will say, I got the upgraded back pad that breathes better and boy does it make a difference!
I have an osprey pack as well, but I will say I prefer the gossamer all day
I've used the Gossamer Gear The One for about four years now and I love it - particularly for its incredibly low weight, but also ease of pitch and roominess inside. I have never had any prroblem with condensation at all - but I don't use it in the winter very often. The only downside I found during one particularly wet trip was that it takes a suprisingly long time to dry once it gets wet. Would have been good to hear the differences in the materials used, but otherwise great review.
Thank you so much!
Thanks for sharing~ I went there but didn't go very far in the backcountry. I was obsessed with a cougar dropping me from the many boulders from the tunnel. There was a black bear sighting reports from incoming backcountry hikers. Nice job, perfect area to hike without the Yosemite circus in summer...
Yeah we had a great time last weekend! Got thunder lightning and rain storms too! It was beautiful and saw minimal humans! Sounds like you had fun too!
Looks epic!
I'm looking at some of the enlightened equipment quilts. There are too many options so I had to come here LOL
Had my trusty Gorilla for 6 yrs with zero issues over hundreds of miles.
That’s what I hear! I always used the gossamer G4 20 before this so I’m excited to try the frame again! Leaving today for backcountry Yosemitej
Great Review Man! I've heard a little bit about Gossamer Gear packs but I'm too stubborn to trade out my Hyperlite LOL. Just curious, would you be open to doing a short interview about winter vs. summer hiking? I'm taking a writing class right now and I need to do an interview with someone experienced in my topic of interest.
I would love to buddy!! Email me the info!! Geargarden916@gmail.com
@@GearGarden Just sent your way! Thank you :)
Can’t wait to hear how you like it after your trip!
Thank you! I’ll keep you posted!!
Interesting, Durston sure are branching out. I like the design of the pole except for no-straps! What's that about? All your weight should be on the straps, otherwise you're constantly gripping the pole and that takes energy! I really don't want to be having to hold my pole while I'm walking.
Yeah for sure! And I know he plans on making straps for them in the future! Apparently lots of people are 50/50 with the straps. I really only use them half the time! So far I haven’t had an issue tbh!
Great review! I just recently saw this on sale through REI but I ended up going with the Tiger Wall 2p Platinum for its weight to space ratio. Still not sure if it was the right decision but I'll know this weekend LOL
Yeah let me know! Truth be told it was a toss up for those 2 tents for me as well’ I also want that tiger wall! It’s tempting that is on a mega sale right now😭😭😂
So how did it work out for you?
@@SparkyOne549 it’s my favorite freestanding tent for sure! It’s very bulletproof with storms and condensation!
@@SparkyOne549 I actually really love it! I can't believe how light it is and it takes like 2-3 minutes to set up at camp. I got it for a really good deal too. One of my better purchases
@@dmar0652 That’s awesome!
Not the lightest. My poles are 4.2oz each with strap and basket.
What poles are those?
@@GearGarden "Healing" 115 gram trekking poles.
Great review, thank you
Thank you buddy!! I appreciate that!
Hi, have you moved yet
Not yet!
Do they support straps? Poles without straps are just tent stands
I belive he is adding some next round! But it’s all preference. I know some people that don’t use straps, and sometimes im 50/50 with them too
Love the light weight but without straps and if you are using the poles for more steep and aggressive climbs it is the strap that gives you so much support and transfer while using them in different fashions and circumstances.
Straps are easy to add.
I love them , im getting a pair
Nice video. Thanks for sharing. subd & 👍30
Thank you so much!!
I don’t trust fibre anything anymore. I’ve broken so many poles so far that I’ve gone back to good old steel.😮
Those look like a branded version of the Komperdell FXP poles without the spring retraction. That's absolutely the Komperdell Powerlock 3.0 locking mechanism on the pole. Komperdell makes all their carbon for their poles in house rather than outsourcing to china. Same with all the other parts, all made in Austria which is great. So props to Durston for going with Komperdell for OEM'ing his poles. I use their Carbon FXP Approach Vario which is very similar but a little more versatile. I wonder if Komperdell will honor the warranty on these, which is very good.
I see now he says on his site. "The Iceline poles are custom built for Durston in Austria by Komperdell (a well respected maker of high end poles for over 100 years)"
A nice piece of kit! Thank you for making a video on them. Straight forward and to the point. Big fan of natural cork grips vs synthetic foam, and some sort of ultralight wrist cordage would be a nice addition. Enjoy em!
Thank you!! Yeah I’m interested to see what changes he makes and or adds on the next round of poles!!
I'm waiting for version 2. I've been buying backpacks and tents on initial releases. Then better and improved versions follow. 😢
