Welcome to my channel! This is where you can watch geeky videos about virtual trucking in American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2, and the odd other game thrown in for good measure.
HMS Triumph, S93, versus NATO yes ALL of NATO | Cold Waters Dot Mod 0.4c
In today's mission, I take a Royal Navy Trafalgar-class boat on an exercise or wargame against NATO forces. I'm tackling fifteen NATO submarines using a blend of Spearfish and Tigerfish.
I occasionally get my Tigers and Spears mixed up!
Starting out in the mission, I don't expect to last very long! I do better than I expected but the result... well I called it in the opening few seconds.

Mark 48 vs Tigerfish in the gunfight | Cold Waters Dot Mod 0.4c
Переглядів 632 години тому
Have you ever asked yourself what the American Mark 48 torpedo would be like in the submarine equivalent of a gun fight in a saloon? Or how it might compare with the British-designed and made Tigerfish Mark 24 torpedo? You have? Did your imagination look something like this video?
Mack Pinnacle vocational duties using the Mack E7 engine | American Truck Simulator

Welcome back to American Truck Simulator, and Happy New Year! Today I'm driving a "what if?" truck - what if we bought a Mack Pinnacle back in 2007 and ordered the Mac E7 engine? We're using a Mack E7 400hp with a Maxi MaxiTorque thirteen-speed 'box and a 4.19 final drive. I head up into the mountains to do some vocational hauling... The cargo is a little under 45,000lbs and the E7 readily dism...

Let's take a British boomer out - but there's a catch. It's February 19, 1984 and we're at war with the Soviet Russia. We - the Royal Navy - have been ordered to send one of our SSBNs, nuclear ballistic missile submarines, out on patrol but there's a Russian submarine waiting to ambush us. We get the jump on him...

Welcome to my second mission in HMS Tireless. The Tireless is the Royal Navy's third Trafalgar class boat and today we're hunting a Soviet cruise missile submarine. We end up taking out a Russian spy trawler. _It looked extremely suspicious and I'm sure they weren't fish._ The Tireless uses the British designed Tigerfish torpedo, which is a very different weapon compared to the American Mark 48...

The Navistar N13 is based on the MAN D26 engine, a mid-bore 12.4l engine that in this case offers 490hp and 1450lbf ft. I'm hauling a 45,000lbs cargo through Arkansas and the ProStar has a ten-speed Eaton UltraShift. It's very much a fleet truck... other than the hot pink-purple-orange paint job...

6 kills for 1 loss. Good odds.
Way better than I was expecting... but I think I can do better...
15:21 *PTSD flashbacks *
It polished out haha! Fairly epic knife fight in a telephone box in the Royal Navy boat, too...
Oh, yeah, it was. But when I saw a sudden torpedo dropped from a plane no one heard and which destroyed the boat, I was like "Oh, no, not again", as I remembered that a similar thingy destroyed the Permit I was commanding, the USS Gato (SSN-612), and caused me to lose my '68 campaign. But the HMS Valiant pulled out an exciting duel as well, I agree
@SherlockCP Oh yes. Sudden torpedo death. STD. Seems like a catchy name for it! You know, I should at least try the 1968 campaign again. Or maybe just a mission. I guess I'm just weird about not dying seemingly immediately time after time after time! 😎
@@DavidSteele Ahaha, fitting name, indeed. And when it comes to 1968 campaign and missions, that campaign has no missiles and weak torpedoes - unguided Mark 16s and slow-but-deadly (SBD) Mk.37s
@SherlockCP So kinda a bit like going from a Skipjack to a Dreadnought... wait... no maybe not...
Looking good david
Thanks Daniel. You're still online too so that's good. 👍
HMS Renown doing a little trolling
Yessir. Usually, my boomer missions go extremely quietly or... let's just say... not so well. I wasn't expecting such an easy victim. I'm also pretty sure most boomer commanders would let the target go rather than risk compromising their boat, even if they couldn't detect anything else...
Ivan was on hangover and didn't see it coming. But all jokes aside, I think the same way. Boomers, the SSBNs and SSBs, are too valuable to engage other boats. If I was a skipper of such boat, I'd not risk anything and tried to leave the area pretending we never was there
@SherlockCP one could be the Magic Man. Now you see me... Now you don't. Wait. Wrong genre! lol
@@DavidSteele I'll be playing magician now lmao. Hocus pocus, Tango implodus. Ivan, how are you down there? Ivan? Oh, wait...
@SherlockCP hahahaha Tango Implodus, now that's a spell I'd like to try! 😅🤣
Was it too soon?
I'm not sure. The video likely won't be seen by many...
@@DavidSteele Maybe there is enough time. I don't think a lot of people would get it. ;)
@azimuth2142 I think that's perfect, then. 👍🥰 I don't want to upset anyone with my bad taste jokes, but if I did, that wouldn't be in the lead haha!
Save the Whales!
We did! Whales successfully saved. ❤️😎
🖖.
Thank you!
17:43 Conn, sonar, Crazy Ivan!
Exactly that!
But that Tango tried its best to get Tireless. Let's skip that her skipper failed miserably and got Tigerfish'd out of existence. Definitely Ivan had some skill issue today xD
Every once in a while, I run into an experienced and slippery enemy skipper... Today wasn't that day!
Trawler got to feel da torpedoe. But I found another analogy in your video to my masochistic '68 campaign when I was calmly at sea and out of sudden I was in the combat mode but the only thing I detected were a container ship, trawler and a whale... Only to detect two Romeos later. But the lacks of any sub here was pretty disappointing
Yes. Usually you get _something_ by actively pinging, even if it's a SET-65 up the jacksee, but this time... Absolutely nothing...
Hey David. I like this content. Still miss your ATS videos as well
Thanks Daniel. There are generally American Truck Simulator videos weekly but I'm not able to piece together videos very easily right now. It'll get easier in the coming days and weeks...
@DavidSteele hey david, sorry if I said something to offend ya. Good luck with your living situation
No absolutely not sir! 😎
Naaice … harpooning subs. Just like Ukraine hit a sub with a cruise missile 😂
It's like... If I can, I will, and it feels wonderfully therapeutic to give the crew time to evacuate before sinking her! 😎
that's a ugly truck, but a unique paint job.
I hear you! I think International were happy to polarize opinions about it. I'm still undecided. It's... just a bit unconventional, or it's trying too hard. I can't decide!
what game is that? looks cool
That's Cold Waters, by... um... Killerfish Games I believe. And thank you!
Odd one. Oh well.
Right? I didn't get so much as a sniff of the enemy boat... 🤐😔
Dot mod any good? Got bored of Cold Waters but might consider the mod if it expands the gameplay
Yes it is - it's a bit more than "more of the same" as it introduces need challenges and limits. Enemy submarines are much more likely to use depth to evade, and torpedoes are harder to shake. I've a learning curve between the two flavors of Cold Waters. 👍❤️
Happy new years david
Happy New Year 2025 back at you! 🥳
Rest in pieces (pun intended), Foxtrot. That was his last dive
...the lonely last dive. Yes sir, it was.

@SherlockCP Yessir. Me too. I guess we'll find out... ...and yes. There are two more Tireless videos to follow. Maybe three.
Looking good. Also Looking forward to seeing your videos in 2025 😊
Thanks Daniel - you too. Things will be a little unsettled for the next few days as we're moving house...

15:28 Depth charges: Allow us to introduce ourselves Aside having your boat lost, that was pretty nice action and we can call it a pyrrhic victory
Thank you! I think it was something of a warm up routine: away from UA-cam it's been a busy couple of weeks, so I'm trying to carve out some time to piece together a few videos next week. Maybe just maybe involving Dot Mod 0.4c and the Trafalgar-class boat...
I see, I see. Welp, I understand that some days or even weeks may be busy, it happens to everyone, after all. We have work or studies in our lives and they require lots of our time And the Trafalgar class coming, thanks for listening to my humble request. I should prepare for some nice show with that class involved
@SherlockCP We're about to move, so, yeah. 😎 And this one... today I sank a "fishing boat" that I'm _absolutely sure_ was a Russian ELINT monitoring boat...
@@DavidSteele Ah, yes, in Soviet Russia fish spy you
@SherlockCP Hahah! Well the Russians used fishing trawlers as ELINT boats for a time and they looked suspicious...
"Captain Numpty" ... 🤣🤣🤣
It's absolutely fitting most of the time, haha!
Let come the torp/torps near. Drop noisemaker. Then: go up/down, depending on the situation. Change between periscope depth and test depth is optimal. Important: Change depth RAPIDLY for at least 1000 ft. The more, the better. Don't care about cavitating when changing depth. You can think of that when you have finished the depth change and the torps have lost contact. Keep in mind this is not working with the Skipjack, as the dive difference is too small to break contact with modern torpedo seekers. The general goal is that the torps loose contact permanently.
Try to avoid launching torps too deep. Prefer immediate depth to avoid torp circling and possibly losing the target.
Copy that! I'm relearning the Dot Mod Tigerfish all over again in 0.4c and it's a brutal lesson to be sure...
Flags on neutral ships disappear when hit. Game bug.
Ahhhhh thank you!
You got 100% of your targets. You sank 4 subs, as you have seen with the 4 wrecks. If you sink something what you have not detected, the game lists it as undetected. Game bug. If this undetected sinking goes against your victory conditions in the game, I don't know, but I've not gotten in trouble with it ever.
Yes that sounds about right, and makes sense - you wouldn't know if you got something unless you detected it..?
Merry Christmas and happy New Year
Thank you! You too!
@DavidSteele Thanks a lot!

Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas 👍
Merry Christmas right back at you...
Same to you David. Much love my friend
Merry Christmas at you too! 🥰
I love sub games, but i never play them bc they seem so complicated. Nice to see a chill gameplay
Thank you! Cold Waters has a definite learning curve, and, I get taught new tricks all the time especially by Dot Mod... but it's easier to pick up than a lot of them out there and dispenses with the micromanagement of some games, too. Might be worth picking up in a sale..?
404 sub not found
Lol!! 🤣😂
Look how many Kilos. A ton of them. A KILOton Sorry, I had to crack such a joke
lolol please imagine the "ba dum tsssshhhh" meme, but I'm not able to put it in a UA-cam comment. This video was strangely satisfying to produce. I tried the same scenario in the Seawolf-class boat right afterwards and it was much harder, but probably because I am used to the Skipjack II. And I really want to try this using the Swiftsure and the Tigerfish / Spearfish combination...
*badum tsshh * Anyway, I found an analogy to my struggle in SH4 on the SSN-585 mod here. Once at the beginning was pretty hard (let's skip free nuclear tanning I done for myself because I forgot that I had such torpedo onboard. Skill issue xD), now it's as easy as hitting yourself in your small toe in the middle of night. And after checking other mods, that is for the SSN-688 class or the Thresher/Permit class, I think that Skipjacks, despite being hard to learn, are the best, although I still love playing on the SSN-700 and randomly dropping quotes from "The Hunt for Red October". And I think that Swiftsure with the Tigerfish and Spearfish torpedoes combo may sound pretty interesing. Also, I'd love to see a Trafalgar-class SSN in action someday :D
Oh yes, the Trafalgar-class... she's like the Swiftsure but just a little bit improved. But yes absolutely. As I remember the class is in DotMod, but it's also in another mod I've played around with.
I won't be screaming "whoo yeah!", I'm not a fanboy. But, nonetheless, that's nice to hear. Since we know capabilities of Swiftsure, Trafalgar shouldn't be THAT different, right? Right? Anyway, sorry for changing the topic so suddenly but have you ever tried to play Soviet boats, like the Sierra class or the Alfa class?
@SherlockCP I have and I did and I, wait, is that a cheesecake..? Yeah I have my first attempt in the channel. It didn't go very well! And I haven't been back into the Russian boat recently (but you know I absolutely should, because how hard can it _really_ be?).
Hope your Christmas goes well 😊❤
Thanks Daniel! We'll see how things go in the next few days! ❤️😎🏠

Ooh lol no of course not! I upset me...
Love the Volvos especially with the D16
8:40 looking at the signature screen, you can see that active and passive for S1 is well below 10 which is the detection threshold. S1 has no idea you exist, and as long as passive stays below 10 she will never know. Sig > 10 detect or reestablish contact. Sig > 0 maintain lock.Same rules for active but the value is for broadside pings and diminishes with angle on profile. I have no insight on torpedo launch noise tho.
Yes, those are what I've read too, along with a torpedo launch is +20dB, but sometimes the enemy detects you or loses you outside of the 10dB range. Or at least that seems to happen, and sometimes the enemy either detects the launch or detects the torpedo a few seconds after launch, and it's hard to tell either way. 👍 A senior US Navy officer described the British Tigerfish torpedo as lethal because it's quiet; I've played around with the Tigerfish and set the noise levels to match what I saw online, and yes, having a quiet torpedo (even if it's slow!) can make a massive difference to how lethal the weapon is. But I don't have any of my sources to hand to show where the information comes from, and I'm pretty sure the precise information isn't officially documented either, so it's kinda all hearsay. Educated guesswork, perhaps?
jesus...get on with it already...i'm 3 1/2 minutes in and you are just blabbing
Wow! That's what your mom said, too.
I think I prefer the water settings to not be so clear but murkier from a personal gameplay point of view. Also from what I can see from general research, the Skipjacks should have a towed array?. I wonder what the realism is of such a large escort force for a boomer. They suffered the problems of friendly fire / friendly torpedo evasion due to the large number of themselves in a relatively confined space. Would make more sense if they were arrayed around the boomer at 10-20k yds as a screen. Entertaining video anyway.
Yes to everything! I could attempt to set up a custom mission with various types acting as a picket, that would make more sense for sure. And yes sir the Skipjack had a towed array, but perhaps not in her final years. As I understand, the towed array was stowed in a torpedo tube and attached once out of port by a team of divers - the class wasn't designed with a towed array in mind. But thank you for your kind words! ❤️
I searched youtube for a mod for snow in ATS and found what I was looking for, but I also found a lovely accent (and great commentary).
I'm happy to help - thank you for your kind words! 🥰 SCS released the Return to Winter Wonderland today and I believe they've added snow too - but Grimes' Frosty winter weather mod is superb.
@@DavidSteele Thanks for that info. I'll have to check that out. I do enjoy this game but am a horrible driver in it, even on dry pavement, so I expect some snow will result in some fun chaos lol
Icebergs and ice sheets. Different play area. Odd how the ruski fleet were sand scooping and 'berg hugging so much.
