This was an awesome idea! I realy love the outcome of it!
Thanks! It was fun to do, and I’m really happy with the result!
I really enjoyed your makes. Gives me ideas for my modeling and I was wondering what clay you use.
Hi! I'm really pleased to hear that! I use terracotta DAS clay, combined with PVA glue. The glue keeps the clay malleable and stops it cracking. Thanks for getting in touch!
I jump back and forth between my hobbies and it's been a pretty long time since I built any dioramas or miniatures. Finding your channel has been one of the most inspirational things for me. I just started putting together some medieval buildings because your work has inspired me so much. I love your style, the scale, the commentary, and your attitude around building. "Don't worry about it too much, it will all look fine in the end" is something I desperately need to be reminded of. I look forward to all of your new videos in the future!
Wow! That's so great to hear! It means so much to me to know that my work is helping to inspire others. Looking forward to hearing how your projects go - and I hope my videos continue to be of use to you!
An unexpected but beautiful addition!!! That horrible toy looks amazing now! ❤😊❤
Thank you! Amazing what a sharp knife can do, isn't it?!
@@ColonelOTruthMiniatureIssues you are welcome 🤗 It’s a wonderful tool!
Great work dude 👍👍
Thanks heaps! Always nice to hear from you.
Tasteful! Fantastic!
Thanks very much!
Great addition! I love when you can take some cheap plastic rubbish and turn it into something amazing.
Thank you! Yes - I love turning stuff into other stuff!
Algorithm. :)
Nice!
Really excellent addition. Thanks for sharing some more process alongside the techniques I feel like I know by heart now. I wager cottages with a dragon view sell for more gold
Thank you - and thanks for your insight - I'll make a point of including my processes a little more, as well as maybe some of the history of Undercrag City. This real estate is certainly more expensive than the houses in the caves!
The fact that you turned a simple dragon toy into a mountainside carving is pure brilliance. Well done. For sure watching you on this channel gives me a good feeling about doing this sort of thing as well. Thank you. :)
Thank you! I really appreciate that! It’s always great to hear that people are helped and inspired by these videos. Keep in touch, and let me know how your own projects go!
I love the way this is coming together. I'd love to see an overview of everything in the next video. Just a quick fly past, maybe. Great integration of the dragon today.
Thank you! I’m working on a ‘story so far’ episode - but as you may imagine, there’s a lot to include! Might be a week or two but it’s coming!
Gorgeous 😍 and Beautiful 😍 Love the little door beneath the dragon. Gets my creative juices oozing. Could be A doorway to a secretive religious cult that worships dragons. Or the entrance way to a thieves guild. Or a little room where a guard can rest when he she isn't on duty. Anyways I'm really pleased I have found your channel on U tube. Colonel of truths. As its truly gold dust.
Thank you! Once again, your imaginative ideas are very welcome! I’m pleased with how this part turned out - more to come. Perhaps the purpose of the door will become clear…
Absolutely brilliant! I can't wait to see what you do next
Thank you, Ellie! Lovely to hear from you!
Great stuff, do you think it would be hard to do the same in 6mm?
Thanks! 6mm would be a bit more of a challenge, depending on how much detail you want, but it’s definitely possible. You’d need to use dense foam wherever possible - the foam from mounting board would be too fragile. Sounds like a great challenge!
It looks like an awful lot of work, but for something that looks fantastic, and unique, worth it 👍🏻. Not sure I’d have the patience to hand draw the bricks though 😂
Haha! Thank you! This piece was only the start! I’ve drawn thousands of bricks and pavers since then. Undercrag City is getting very complicated! Hope you’ll keep watching!
@@ColonelOTruthMiniatureIssuesdefinitely - got myself into ‘Minihammer’, and whilst the range of pre-made 10mm terrain is pretty good, I’m always after some ideas for more unique pieces 👍🏻
Well, I hope you find plenty of inspiration here! Keep in touch!
The pops of color look amazing 😊😊😊
Thank you! I was unsure about the brightness of these buildings at first, but I think they work nicely.
@@ColonelOTruthMiniatureIssues you are welcome 🤗
great build!
Thank you!
Beautiful addition! I find myself wanting to know more about the winding street layout, it is sometimes hard to see how everything connects, and that of course means this is the kind of dio you just want to keep looking at.
Thanks very much! I'm working on doing a walkthrough of the city so far. As you might imagine, it's a bit complex, but watch this space!
@@ColonelOTruthMiniatureIssues I will be there!
I love the total chilled vibe of your videos, ypu must tell tho, please... Where do you get your magic stick from? ☺
Haha! My Faithful Pointy Stick is a slim steel knitting needle that was given to me by a friend almost twenty years ago! It continues to serve me well!
It totally deserves a special stand 😂 it is legendary!
I should give that some serious thought!
Simply magical!
Thanks very much!
I realy ejoy watching Your videos!
Thanks! I really enjoy making them - and receiving comments!
I love waking up to a new video!! Another excellent addition to the story of undercrag - thanks for continuing to share!!
You are very welcome - and thank you very much!
The wonky style is great and i really like the glass effect.
Thanks! Isn't it great how such simple techniques can give such satisfactory results? Glad you're enjoying these videos!
Always nice to see theres a new upload.
Thanks! So nice to hear from you!
You and your work have now become part of my Sunday morning routine. I try to catch back episodes during the week, I find them super relaxing. Do you have a 'city tour' episode? ...or would you consider doing a city tour? I am curios about the back stories of the different buildings and statues. Thank you for showing us your work!
That's so nice to hear! I love getting comments like this. Mrs. O'Truth and I have been giving a lot of thought to producing a walkthrough video - there's a lot to see, and we want to do it justice, but we hope to have something soon!
Chapel view. I actually live near A Chapel street. Lovely houses. I wonder who dwells in Undercrag city? Humans Dwarfs Elves Gnomes. Do wizards pass by on errands unknown. I love watching these builds.
In this case, Chapel View looks out from the side of Undercrag Mountain, across the roof and spire of Highchapel - hence the name! Undercrag is occupied largely by humans, but there are a number of other races represented here and there. Elves tend to find the place a bit too run down and claustrophobic, but Deep Street, Cavern Street and other subterranean parts of the city are popular with dwarves. You can always fins at leas one wizard in the Gate and Chapel Inn! Thanks for watching!
Wow! Im amazed at what you manage to pack into this city. It's juat wonderful.
Thank you! I had no idea the place was going to get so packed when I started out on this build - and there's a lot more to come!
I think that this works so well because there is no overall plan or in universe town planner. This is a great addition to the city.
Thanks! My old art teacher would have had a fit over the lack of preparation for this piece! But I think you're right - it wouldn't be so rambling and ramshackle if I'd tried to plan it that way.
Have you ever visited the picturesque medieval German or French villages that are full of the half-timbered style buildings like you design for Undercrag City?
Great question! I have visited one or two such places - Aurey in Brittany, and Mont Saint-Michel as well. But I think I've been influenced more by York, and other old market towns and villages around Yorkshire, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire - my childhood stomping grounds!
...and I've been fiddling with 3d printed houses. This looks so fun, simple and effective, and you get the design you want 😅 next time I'll try this, I happen to have all the materials at home already. Thank you for putting the pieces together 😄
That's so satisfying to hear! Happy to have been of help - let me know how you go!
Beautiful work!
Thank you!
Every video takes us closer to an incredibly awesome city!!! 😊
… step by step by step..! We’re getting there - but there’s still a long way to go!
@@ColonelOTruthMiniatureIssues and I’m loving the journey ☺️☺️☺️
I've just recently come across your channel, and I am absolutely hooked. Your way of model making is something I myself have been considering doing for quite a long time, and seeing the way YOU create your models, landscapes, and the lot, makes me feel like I might be able to take a crack at doing stuff like this as well. I'm loving how Undercrag City is coming along piece by piece, and look forward to future installments.
Wow! That’s so great to hear - thank you for your support! It’s so nice to know that these videos are encouraging model makers and hobbyists to get creative! Good luck with your miniature endeavours - and keep in touch!
Absolutely beautiful 🥰🥰
Thank you very much!
Looks great!
Thank you!
Fantastic work!
Thank you!
Once again, another beautiful touch to just add another element of curiosity to your board. Your work ceases to amaze me as I watch every week. Cheers!
Thank you! It’s great to have you along for the journey as Undercrag City continues to grow. Much more to come - I hope to hear from you again!
These videos really do contribute to peaceful moments on my Sunday's. I found you discussing the LED process interesting too
Hi! And thank you! Happy to be contributing something nice to your weekends!
Absolutely a nice touch. A good detail. And story telling opportunities. I can imagine walking up or down those stairs. Feeling fine sticky strings creeping gently brushing over my face. Things crawling over my hands and up and down my legs. The sound of water drip drip dripping in the gloom. And the echoes of my footsteps. A few times now I have scared myself witless having slipped on something wet and soft. Praying its the moss or slime. And not some poor souls cadaver lying on the steps. Also when I grab a stone on the wall to balance myself. A few times the stones have came lose and fell out the wall. A bat rushed past me. Brushing my face with its wing tips. Grabing ont the stones in the walls to stop myself falling. Disgusted with the putrid ooze oozing out the wall. Feeling it trickle down my finger tips. In a pitch black part of the stair case. Seeing faint flickering ligh up ahead. Startled again as a hairy thing brushed past my ankle. Grazing my knees on the wall. Trying my best to stop myself from falling. Face going into a dense mish mash of cold cobwebs. And the sensation of spiders crawling through my hair. My whole body coverd in goosebumps. Remembering an old story of why it's called the miller's stairway. That the Miller caught his wife having an affair with the black Smith. And the so the Miller killed the black Smith and buried his body in the walls. Probably just an old wives tale. Designed to scare travellers. Anys probably unlikely. Everyone needs to use these stairs to get in and out of Undercrag city. But A daunting journey non the less.
Wow! That’s by far the longest comment I have ever received, and great fun to read! Thanks! As you will see if you keep watching, Miller’s Stair and other passages within the mountain are very important for everyday life in Undercrag City - but you are right - they’re not particularly pleasant places to be!
That must have been frustrating to do at times, but it looks amazing. As a newbie builder, I am always grateful for your tips and tricks and find them very helpful. It's great the way you problem solve along the way.
It’s funny how a small piece like this can feel like a challenge sometimes. It was fiddly and I had to bend my brain a few times. Thanks so much for all your support and kind words - I’m really pleased you’re finding these videos helpful!
This is the sort of area that looks like it needs a sign saying "Beware of spiders" or something similar. For a piece of this size and complexity, I keep a small clean vacuum cleaner with a very fine hose to remove loose sand. This can then be emptied and reused.
Haha! Maybe I should have added incredibly thin spider webs? Funny - Mrs O’Truth and I were just discussing little vacuum cleaners. I may have to invest in one!
This has become one of my favorite crafting channels. Your unusual techniques and dedication to showing exactly what you're doing make every video a trove of inspiration and tips. But I question whether a pointy stick is a better tool for certain jobs than tweezers haha.
Thank you so much! That’s really nice to hear. I have tried tweezers, and we don’t play nicely at all. Conversely, you always know where you are with a pointy stick…
I love your organic way of building ❤ It’s making such a beautiful city ❤😊❤
Thank you! It’s fun to work this way too!
@@ColonelOTruthMiniatureIssues you are welcome 🤗
Awesome! Tecnically the upper roadfence is mirrored, but it does't matter, i just thinking the person who built it did use a ladder or he just did run into some kind of tecnical difficulties or allready had frames/scaffolding put up for something else related to the house or something, which made it easier o do it this way when it was constructed. :-)
Haha! Great point - I hadn’t even thought of that! Never mind. Technically, there’s room for someone to balance on the cliff’s edge while wielding a hammer! Well spotted!
Every video shows another impressive addition to this build. Well done!
Thank you!
Looking good!
Thank you!
This wall is looking good. Your small scale modelling skills are on point. Design wise, that triple window is a big security risk. I do not know if at this size you can add bars or similar?
Thanks! And yes - you’re right about the windows. But I like them! I may bolster security at some point…
Excellent job, once more. A thought occurred to me this watching: I know you have stressed time and again how organic your process is, but I must assume that you have some broader scheme or plan being worked out? You even have names for these various city sections, so I’d love to learn more about what planning and plotting you allow yourself as you go. I’d be overwhelmed working this way without some organizing blueprint, but perhaps your brain works differently from my own!
Thanks! Actually, I have only the broadest, most general idea of what Undercrag is. This is deliberate, as each new addition pushes me in new directions and inspires new ideas. I like to work this way, as it keeps me interested in the work, and excited to get onto the next bit. I’m somewhat the opposite of you, I suppose, as I would be overwhelmed by a detailed grand plan, constantly aware of how much further there was to go, and having to figure out how everything has to fit together! Also, I hate to be predictable!
Another stunningly beautiful build. I always love to watch your videos, seeing this amazing place come together! You can hear your passion for your craft in your voice, but at the same time you're voiceover is so calming that I have to listen to your videos before 7pm or be lulled to sleep. You're the Bob Ross of diorama building!
Haha! What a compliment! So glad you like these videos. I’ll endeavour to keep releasing them before your bedtime!
It's always fun to watch your videos and see what you're working on! I have a question about working with foam. Do the glue and paint coatings make it somewhat durable? I see many diorama artists using foam for building walls because stone texture or wood texture can be carved into it, but also it seems like the foam can be easily dented even by pressure from someone's fingernails.
Hi again - great question! You are correct about foam being easy to dent, and yes - paint and glue does help a little in this respect. Having said that, foam is more durable than some other materials such as cardboard, plaster of Paris and so on. I suppose when working in miniature, everything is quite fragile. Obviously, resin is becoming increasingly popular, especially with the advent of 3D printing, but the art and skills involved in that field are not the same at all as what I show here. Likewise sculpting and casting. So long as children, kittens and over-enthusiastic dice-rollers are kept in check, everything should be OK…
