The Greatest Conversation Ever - Episode 1 - Payam Banifaz & Ryan Rosenberg
I hadn't known that about Lark Voorhies until Payam mentioned it. Saved by the Bell sounds like it was the most toxic workplace in the world.
Amazing story from Rob. I felt that thing about being three different people who were before being sick, being sick and after being sick.
Is anyone else only getting audio in one channel (usually the left) for some episodes? It's not every episode and sometimes it's only Ryan but it's the same for youtube and podcast form.
I listen to a lot of 30’s/40’s music and I’m going to write Jim Varney biopic just to cast Theune as the lead.
Unsettling Richard Grieco career fact: in the early 2010s he was one of the executive producers for a reality show about hustlers called Gigolos where most of the clients were paid actresses and at least two of the main cast were allegedly violent criminals.
Pretty sure Varney was a groundlings guy
Varney, may he rest in peace, was a trained Shakespearean actor but not a Groundlings alum. ON EDIT: I had something about Paul Reubens but that was already discussed. Oops.
Ronnie might just be the coolest guy around.
If it makes Will feel better, I am utterly happy to just have him on the podcast hanging out and telling stories about UCB lore and exuding good vibes. I gotta add, however, that I will be supremely crushed to find out that any of you ever attended a freak-off, except possibly if you had to do the catering or something. It may be controversial to say but I can't support human trafficking.
I think PB was thinking of All The Small Things by Blink 182 with "say it ain't so" and then connected them to 311 with the weird number thing. GREAT EPISODE!
Phil rules. I’ll always remember his amazing poetry segments from the Chris Gethard show.
I love Jacobs chaotic energy
Erin Keif is comedy joy, and a microwave savant!
I think it was a good business move to have Lin-Manuel Miranda’s disembodied voice host the show
Yeah that’s almost spot on, I’d say it was a killer impression if I thought it was intentional
Oh, I liked this one. Phil just seems like a beautiful, fascinating person. I know some of the conversation was about how some people expect comedians to be on all the time, but my gut feeling is that those kinds of people aren't really interested in forming a real human connection. When someone trusts you enough to be their authentic self around you, whether they're serious or silly or a little bit weird, you tend to care more about them, not less.
Had a baked potato for lunch because of this episode. Such shills for Big Potato.
The talk about parenting made me think that part of raising a child today is helping them navigate the difference between the widely available performative sex and whatever dehumanization and unrealistic expectations come along with it, and the social and emotional intimacy that comes with being in a sexual relationship. We have to teach kids a language for how to exist in the world. On a shallow note, Ryan's confused/offended "Wait, why?" response to Payam telling him not to give a lion weed is very funny.
True story: I was running errands when a man in a parked car complimented my (decidedly sensible) sandals. I said yeah fine whatever, which is when he handed me a card and asked to smell my shoes. Apparently he ran an Instagram account full of creep shots of women's feet and shoes. I said I gotta go now, bye.
uhhh gotta go 🏃♀️➡️!
Love the pod. Great hosts and incredible guests!
Thanks for having me!!!!
You are the best. We simply had to! Please come back!
Love it!
Jacob is absolutely amazing and I adore him 🖤
Good for Vic for signal boosting the Disability Visibility Project and Trans Lifeline even if they do get a kickback. You're all a bunch of good humans.
How is Vic so fast?
I liked the episode so much I watched this video after I heard the episode in my podcast app!
Great advice in this one!
Grate episode! I camembert all the puns, though. I paneer-ly couldn’t finish it. 🧀
Just kidding, I ate this up like a fly at an assiago convention. Ricotta go now.
I love Betsy!!! She is just so cool. She was just in Summer Camp. And was the best character in the entire movie. Good luck Betsy you are such a delight who deserves all the best.
I believe the movie Ryan's talking about with Joaquin Phoenix is The Sisters Brothers, which sounds relentlessly unlikable. My favorite thing about this show is how it flows from Payam smashing his dick into things to the politics of LA real estate to Betsy's relationship with Crystal the monkey and everyone's just along for the ride.
My worst weed experience was when I thought I'd have a few gummies before going out to a concert (Note: the tickets had been purchased months in advance) but I took way too many due to the good old inexperience/impatience combo. Didn't make it to the concert. I spent the night curled on my side obsessing about how the whole world was based on the concept of folding and unfolding, mixed with a little bit of uncontrollable shaking and puking. Not my finest hour.
oof, I've been there. one year on April 20th I did a gravity bong and thought I would never become un high again.
