FlySto.net - New Pilot Proficiency Tool
Steep 1G turns, 55 kt 720, 50 kt 720, KBRG 31 landing
This only a video portion downloaded from FlySto.net. There is a lot more information and tools on the actual personal site.
New tool that I discovered investigating another flight data evaluation method. Turns out most of our EFIS's can record a lot of info that can be downloaded to this site. It identifies takeoffs, landings, flight maneuvers and even evaluates your performance based on criteria that you can customize to the type of flying you do Has a lot of potential.

Bearhawk - Low Level Runway Evaluation using Energy Management Turns
Переглядів 5132 роки тому
Sharing my practice session for backcountry runway evaluation prior to landing. For this, I use Low Level, Energy Management Turns. These are basically crop duster turns to get back to evaluate the runway easily, in a minimal area like a canyon, and not burn a lot of time so you can make a good evaluation of runway conditions. This is practice in a wide open area, so that when the distractions ...

Great video!
Just found all your BH videos. Really enjoyed them and learned a lot. After a hard landing this month at Dirty Devil UT I now know that I have to get proficient at wheeled landings in my BH 4-place.
what avionics is that? g3x? what do u recommend to have?
Avionics decision is based on truly personal preference and budget. This is the GRT avionics system. I had the GRT EIS (engine information system) in my previous home built. That was the company's first product. Predates screen EFIS. It provides complete compatibility and also redundancy if I were to loose EFIS. For me, the GRT system provided the best value.
@@gearbender49 Thank you!
thanks, that was great.
great video, very impressive country to fly around. thx for posting
Great video
Waste of time video dude thanks
I am trying to build a Bearhawk 4 Place Model A and these videos keep me motivated. Thanks for sharing.
Welcome to Utah!!
Great video. thanks for sharing.
Great landing! And good call on holding the music. Love seeing Bearhawk videos!
Great Video, HS is one of my favorites for sure
Are you supposed to be flying there?!?!? That looks very dangerous!!! 😋🤣 Very well done John - both the flying and the video production!
Cool deal there
By technicality in physics, the flaps down means that the higher the airspeed the more nose up attempt by the aircraft. By the same point, the "elevator control" placed in a nose down position will allow the aircraft to be kept lateral (neither nose up or nose down). However, keeping it lateral means that too much power will either rise the aircraft (laterally as it is sped) or nose down after decrease of power. With full flaps down angle, it should be possible to maintain sinking and the control column in a nose down actuating setting but the aircraft remain lateral. This point would be perfect for high risk wind saw of a tail wind, because the nose would be struck upward by a tail wind , and excess forward wind would be gathered on the flaps. Therefore, after sinking with those control positions, to prevent nose down (or air breaking nose up) when it actually occurs means powering up the engine rpm for a brief period of moments.
oh boy
Interesting video and great airplane, what engine are you running, thx
Engine is a Bob Barrows O-540.
Thanks for the video - keep em coming!
How long was that runway?
Wee Hope's published length is 1908 ft. Elevation = 5476 ft
@@gearbender49 Thanks! How much of it did you use?
Lookin real good John! Now we need to hear some of that Louisiana twang! 😋😉😇
I'm kinda liking the engine noise better. It lets me know my throttle hand is participating which is a skill I'm working to improve. As you know, important to this kind of flying.
Nice job John!! 👍👏 A gorgeous place!!!
Couldn't have done it without my coach!!!
Very cool! Looks like a great morning to be flying idaho and nevada frontier.
Do you have plans to get real airplanes and become real pilots anytime soon ?
GeoB, I no longer have that Generac on my Kolb. It does have a belt driven redrive and I tried 3 different props, a 72" 3 blade IVO and a 76" & 78" Culver wood prop. I gave up on it after 110 hrs of flying with inadequate power for the 435 lb. empty weight Kolb. You can get more info on the Generac from Valley Engineering, a really good family of folks in Rolla, MO. I now have an HKS on the Kolb which is a really good performer and has the dependablity of 4-stroke power, just kinda expensive.
Now that was a short landing. The MIII will land on a dime. Wow ! Travis
Awesome ! Thanks for posting . Travis
