Hi there! If you’re trying to decode an encrypted text using shift cipher yet the key wasn’t given, then you just have to do all the 25 shifts and see what'll work. You compare the encrypted vs the decrypted letters. It’ll be faster if you’re having a program with you, MS Excel will do. ❤️

If you're encrypting affine cipher, you have to be careful with the key to use. Notice that later on for decrypting, your "a" should have "an inverse modulo". Thus, for your key (a, b), your "b" can be any number but your "a" is restricted to those numbers that have an inverse modulo 26. Consequently, your "a" can only be those numbers listed in 9:03. So definitely, your "a" should be a number that is "relatively prime" to 26, equivalently, has a GCD equal to 1. I'm amazed you're getting the gist of my video. Thanks for watching! Hi there! Are you referring to 15 being RELATIVELY PRIME TO 4? If no, kindly specify the time stamp of your query. If yes, note that two numbers are relatively prime if their greatest common divisor (GCD) is 1. 4 and 15, thou they are not primes, are relatively prime since their greatest common divisor is 1. Hi there! In encrypting or decrypting using shift cipher, we just need the plain text (for encryption) or cipher text (for decryption) together with the shift key. The "left" or "right" that you're referring to is probably the shift key. Like, if you wanna encrypt, you'll move to the right; if you wanna decrypt, then you'll move to the left.
