Gael is definitely better than literally anything in ER, Isshin is better though.

When you think about the chosen undead was really screwed over. Almost everyone they meet in their journey either dies, hollows, or goes mad. The propehcy was a lie. You were never chosen. Just more kindling for the fire who managed to be the undead that finally got through the meat grinder to anor londo to be manipulated by the gods. Since gwyndolin is in ds3 it must be canon that the cu was duped into relighting the flame. You saved oolacile from the abyss and yet you doomed several kingdoms to be corrupted by the daughters of Manus and you arent even remembered as everyone attributes your success to a great knight. One of the only beings who knows of your tale you are forced to slay in combat because they just wanted to protect you from the fate of their old master. Rekindling the fire didn't save the world, if anything you prolonged its slow destruction and yet the flame doesnt even let you go. You are resurrected to fight against one who can actually end this cycle once and for all and all you can do is fight him.

I like the video since it concisely explains your opinion, there isn't any fluff to it but your feelings on the matter is conveyed pretty well. Me personally, I would put a decent amount of Sekiro and ER/SOTE bosses above him. If you were to include AC6, I would put some of the bosses there above him too. My most controversial opinion however is that he isn't even the best boss in DS3. I think the reason why is because I value mechanics more than most people, which isn't a roundabout way of saying 'I'm better', a lot of people more skilled than me would disagree, it's just that everyone has their own personal ranking of which factors are more important than others in a boss fight, and it just feels like the mechanics of a fight has more weight in my rankings than other people. I think very few bosses have an OST, arena, or lore as interesting as Gael, but a decent amount beat him out mechanically. I think his fight is still great, it's just that it didn't really force me to strategise. I fought him without thinking much, and unfortunately I wasn't punished in any way at all for that, and it felt as if I had figured out his fight before I even stepped into the arena, despite never seeing footage of it before. He wasn't too easy, but he was a bit too simple.

Gael hasn't been the best Fromsoft boss since 2019 the moment Sekiro dropped he was replaced and has since been topped several times over by ER and AC6

Margit, Gundyr, Gasgoine and Cleric Beast were the best tutorial bosses imo, tho Cleric Beast is technically optional. They all taught things about the game that needed to be taught. Margit told players to go explore, he has a bunch of jumpable attacks, and his stance is low, but not so low that you can cheese him with stance breaks. He teaches you aggression, but mindfulness. He also indicates how complex and acrobatic ER movesets were going to be. He is also easily overlevelled, since he has only 4k health, easy work with even a +4 smithing weapon and at level 25. Gundyr teaches players about speed and 2nd phases. DS3's main change wad the speed of the souls format. BB was outside the souls combat loop, so Gundyr does a good job of showing how DS3 works. The 2 phases also cover the 2 generic fighters, 1. Knight 2. Monster. It also makes it clear that most bosses wil have a Phase 2. Gasgoine introduces the player to the hunter and hunter sized beast bosses of BB. Cleric Beast on the other hand introduces aggressive and hit trade playstyle. The Cleric Beast has low health, and low damage, but dodging away is punished heavily. So dodging in is the strat. All great tutorial bosses imo

Radahn really is the worst with gaius, look at frame analysis for some of his attacks. this boss moveset legit shits on creativity as well as making no sense from a technical point.

gaius charge attack is aids but the rest of the fight is super easy. only took me a couple attempts

Gaius is the best boss in fromsoft history. The pure aura dripping off of him and his drooling feral hog is enough for him to be the best in Elden ring, but then Miyazaki himself had to go the extra mile and add such a diverse and interesting moveset. The usage of attacks which are extremely unintuitive to dodge is such a unique and different way to add challenge, and it’s been proven to works wonders as is seen in malenias fight with her waterfowl dance. Gaius only furthers this concept by having his very first attack that he and his hog provide be such a simple, yet difficult attack to dodge makes such an amazing first impression, instantly leaving the player know they are in for a fun, engaging, and difficult boss fight, up there with the likes of other fantastic boss fights like godskin duo, halflight, ancient Dragon and bed of chaos. This boss is the pinnacle of boss design not only in fromsoft’s catalouge, but in any video game to ever exist.

Gaius is goated because of Feral Hog

Gaius is kinda cope. You can dodge the charge with med load if you time it right - it's not that bad. And the moveset itself is also pretty easy to learn aside from some of the gravity attacks. The boss is not good but it's not unfair or terrible either

Messmer and Midra are my top 2, in that order, too. I'm not sure about after that. I enjoy Promised Consort's challenge, makes it very memorable, but I wasn't at all impressed with just fighting Radahn again, and the first phase became quite tedious for trying to learn the second. Some of the others had fantastic designs but just went down too easily to leave that big mark. Loved the DLC all in all.

I don't see how anyone can disagree with this list. Gundyr is genuinly such a enjoyable and rewarding boss. He is fairly easy and was the boss that roped me into the entire souls series. His moveset is simple and he is extremely rewarding especially for new players. Also his second phase is just the chefs kiss of making him feel very unique with the design.

I remember how perfect Gael was in DS3 when I fought him, he's so fair and actually very challenging even then But Messmer? DAYUM, I actually was floored by how good Messmer was, so it may be recency bias but, I think Messmer tops the charts for me

Gundyr is definitely the best tutorial boss, mostly just because he kept game journalists from seeing Firelink Shrine 😜

I’d agree with gundyr being so high. Sets the perfect standard of what to expect through DS3 with phases and attack patterns while also giving the player the opportunity to learn to parry. Great design as well and also gives the player the opportunity to understand how to deal with his later fight.

Nice video, I agree with a lot of the sentiment. Consider taking multiple takes of smaller chunks of reading, and then stitching the best ones together lol

The difference is ds3 bosses are fun to fight. Most elden ring bosses arent.

The answer is, yes, yes he is. The fight has everything: *High lore relevance *build up across 2 DLCs *OST is ridicolously good *desolate wasteland as final battle, because we are at the literal end of the world *a moveset that is like a dance that gives you clear openings to attack *does an homage to Artorias' cutscene in which he throws a corpse in the player's direction *is a walking Berserk reference (1st phase is basically inner beast of darkness taking over Guts and he is feral, while 2nd and 3rd phase he reclaims at least partially his humanity) While Gael is a carefully crafted bossfight that has balanced gameplay all around and clear openings and non-openings and is a waltz, a lot of Elden Ring bosses feel like they are Tangos to which you have to dance to Dragonforce while Herman Li is on fucking coke. It is explosive, it is a spectacle, it is chaotic/hectic, but not really satisfying and in the end your feet are tired and your ears are ringing and you did not really enjoyed the dance, but you´ll probably tell your friends how awesome it was to particiapte.

Hes up there, the lore, spectacle and music is goated but I feel like the fight was a little too easy for a final boss.
