What did it sound like before you bled it? Mine is making a screeching sound so loud you can hear it from anywhere in the house, and it almost sounds like a pipe is about to explode. But only when the water is shut off.
I am SOOO happy to have found this video. I was about to call a plumber and raise a warranty claim. Told my family we would have no hot water for a few days. Took me 30 seconds to fix it! You freak’n rock man!
The Operation Manual is separate from the Installation Manual. The Operation Manual has a troubleshooting section but doesn't cover "noise" issues. It isn't very helpful. I opened this bleed valve because I'm getting noise problems ( I wouldn't call it "screaming" or "whistling"...more like "gurgling"). I will note here that the water coming out is hot, so have some protective gloves on.
This evening (after I changed the water filter and undoubtedly let in some air) we were startled by this screaming sound - almost like an animal in distress. I found this video and bled out the air - it took care of the problem. Thanks.
Mine showed code 'AIR'. I had shut it off, and the main water supply, while I was gone for a few days. This same valve needed bleeding in that case. Thank you!
The manufacturer s will not give all the codes to plumbers either, programing codes, error codes because people try to fix it themselves and bypass safety devises and install things incorrectly causing property damage, personal injury then want to sue manufacturer s.
Thank you so much for posting this video! It saved us $500 of repairs by simply bleeding the air/water valve. Error code 348 and screeching sound disappeared and we now have hot water again. Nice job.
We had a Navien Combi Boiler installed in 2016, and I say it’s a money pit. Navien has been great about the needed parts, but shipping, and plumber’s availability, means no heat or hot water in winter, and plumbers, ain’t cheap. We live in N.E., winters are cold!
I just had a navian installed a month ago. I’m getting a whistling/screeching noise for about 10 seconds right after I turn off the hot water during the post purge phase of the heater. Was your whistling noise occurring similar to mine? It also happens after the recirc pump operates with no hot water being turned on. Also what part of the unit was the sound coming from? Mine appears to be at the top of the unit.
Our unit did it after the water was shut off without notice and air got in the lines. I am not sure where the whistling was coming from, i just know this fixed it. Every time the water is cut off, it happens and the bleeder fixes the issue. I did hear gurgling in the lines and in the recirculation pump.
I am not a tech, and I don't think I could give you a good answer, but you want the fresh air away from the exhaust. Or maybe its the bearings in the fan? I am not sure if my unit does the same thing.
I live in Houston and we lost water due to the winter storm. Woke up to Navian tankless water heater screaming so turned it off. We turned water back on today (water pressure restored) and same sporadic screaming noise. This video solved our problem. Thanks so much for posting!
Thank you! Tommy TMT, below, has a response that may be a better approach as what he is stating will likely actually bleed the recirculation pump and the water line. If you still hear a gurgling his fix may cure everything. I haven't tried it yet, but I will the next time the water gets shut off. Take care down there in TX!
If you take off the cover, you’ll see a little red screw cap on top of the recirc pump behind the controller at the bottom. Unscrew that little red cap a bit. That’s the air-bleeder
I have air in the system and opened the red bleeder valve, but nothing happened - no discernible air flow, nor water coming out. Does the pump need to be running to force air out?
Great place for an air drain. On the bottom

thank you very much sir. my mother in law would love me
you need to reinstall the caps on the water lines they can drip

@@KirknDEThanks for the information!
My same model Navien's fan is loud at low RPM. That's during start up and purging if anyone has any ideas. Gas pressure at high fire is okay at 7.0 WC

Great info and well presented. Please make more Navien vids.

I meant to say air in the lines at the beginning.
