1981 Jeep CJ7 - Part 1 - Will She Start?
Переглядів 5 тис.Рік тому
Couldn't pass this deal up. Its been sitting for over 12 years, so I wanted to gauge what kind of shape it was in. This is shaping up to be a fun toy! Don't worry, I haven't forgotten about the Cadillac, parts are on order....they take a while...

I'm going to go ahead and strip for you in this video....my front bench seat that is...what did you think I was referring to? Preparing for new covers!!
1968 Cadillac Sedan Deville Restoration - Part 18 - Trunk Lid Repair
Переглядів 978Рік тому
I decided to try and repair the Trunk lid. This took me down a long path of delaminating it to get it right. Sometimes I wish I knew this was a single year car before I bought it...too late now! Get the welder out!!!
1968 Cadillac Deville Restoration - Part 17 - Floor Pan Complete

Just a quick update to prove I havent been slacking. The floor pan is complete! Now I think its time to move on to finishing the interior!! Let me know what you think!
1968 Cadillac Sedan Deville Restoration - Part 16 - Cowl Repair
Переглядів 565Рік тому
Finally finished repairing the rotten cowl. The upper portion and inside portion were severely rotted out, so its almost all recreated from scratch. Luckily there was enough left to allow me to follow the curve and not have to guess on that. Dad says there is going to be so much welding on this car I should call it a Lincoln...If you get that joke, your cool in my eyes. Make sure not to look in...

1968 Cadillac Sedan Deville Restoration - Part 14 - Dash Removal

We continue the task of stripping the car down so we can properly fix the rust issues. Here we are removing the dashboard. I tried to point out what steps are needed and what to disconnect in order to remove it. Not to bad of a task, make sure you have a hand in carrying it out, it is quite bulky!

1968 Cadillac Sedan Deville Restoration - Part 12 - Body ON!!

Finally got the Body back mated to the Frame! We did things a bit smarter this time and used a tractor for the rear end lifting. Now on to the floor pans and interior!
1968 Cadillac Sedan Deville Restoration - Part 11 - Brake and Fuel Lines
Переглядів 500Рік тому
Zane and I get the brake and fuel lines installed. Teaching him how to flare some brake lines, makes me a proud dad! Going to mold this boy into a gear head after all... Had another visitor as well, just stopped by to show his disapproval that I didn't have any scratch in my hand....greedy birds.... Next step is pushing it under the body. Going to gather some extra hands for this part!
1968 Cadillac Sedan Deville Restoration - Part 10 - Steering Gear Rebuild

Something I have never done before, a steering gear rebuild. This one is a little long as I stumble my way through this. Made a mistake and learned from it to! Saved about $100, we will see how it does when I finally get on the road!

1968 Cadillac Sedan Deville Rescue/Restoration - Part 7 - Polyurethane Rear Bushing Retrofit

Hello, how is the restoration going? I have a 68 coupe Deville. I’m going to replace the heater core. Anything you learned along the way that I might run into or you would’ve done differently thank you.

I almost have the interior done...free time is a bit less these days. As for the heater core. When I removed my outside section of ducting, the engine was already out. So I do not have a clue how difficult that will be with the engine in. The only issue I had was when removing the interior section of ducting, they used bolts molded into the plastic. Plastic became brittle, bolts became rusty, so that was a perfect recipe for them to break out of the plastic. If you have to remove the inside section, which I doubt, be careful of that.

Yeah, I've heard numerous methods. I just prefer to make sure the engine is fully primed with oil before cranking at all. I don't like to use oil in the cylinders if your trying to fire mostly because I am afraid of any damage that can come from too much oil in there. Maybe it would cause a hydrolock type situation? Maybe not...

@@HornbergersHobbies absolutely they were cutting edge because up till the late 70’s Cadillacs were the top shelf. Hello, Thanks for presenting this series, it's really nice! My age is catching up with me so I might have missed something. What type/kind of spring compressor are you using? Yours sure seems easier to use. I missed how the spring compressor and coil spring locks into the frame as you were tightening the bolt on the compressor. These old Cadillacs are the ones we have a yard full of, one 1968, mostly 69's and 70's. I dread the upper A frame bushings every time because of having to deal with the springs. Many thanks and again fantastic job on your Cadillac. Greg & Jenice

    • @HornbergersHobbies

Thanks for watching y'all! I am using just a regular coil spring compressor, internal type that is supposed to be inside of the spring at the top and bottom. I cheat a little and instead of putting the top hooks of the spring compressor inside of the spring, I let that rest on the top of the spring perch. Then I use only the lower hooks of the spring compressor to pull the spring up into the spring perch and compress it there. Let me know if that explanation helps!
