When in the presence of a hidden stalker I'd argue that it's advisable for teams of dwarves to group up and scan the caves. If close to one another circle up and keep an eye on each other's backs. Watch out for any distortions on the cave walls. Usually one dwarf will be the target. During moments of quiet when dwarves may be separated from one another if one dwarf senses a stalker they should signal to their teammates. Stalkers will appear louder the closer they are to a dwarf so converge on the locations of your teammates. Especially if one dwarf continues to hear the stalker as if it were right behind them. If one should encounter stalkers during a swarm then it's advisable to use AoE weaponry to sniff them out as there is a chance that a stalker will catch a stray shot from one of your explosives or penetrating weapons. If you lack AoE capabilities with your current equipment then you should remain as near to a teammate that has AoE as possible. Inflicting a Stalker with status effects will also continuously reveal its location and most status ailments will slow or damage the enemy over time making them considerably easier to target. Speak to your local driller for more information.

Personally using power attacks is the most effective way of dealing with stalkers. It might not kill them in one swoop consistently it's a good option if you don't have lot burst damage in your build. Happy mining, Rock and Stone!
