    Wow - so much to comment on with this one! :) First of all - that is absolutely amazing that you and your family went skydiving!! You are far more braver than I am. Good for you!! Very cool. Secondly - loved seeing the progress on the greenhouse. Its coming along despite the slight setback with the broken windows. Thirdly - That's wonderful progress on your emergency savings!! And way to go on completing your July savings! I think 10K is a great amount. I love the month ahead idea. I'm currently working on my initial 3K emergency fund and then I need to beef up our vehicle repair sinking fund - as that really took a hit this summer with all of the work we had done - and now we need winter tires for both vehicles. LOL! And THEN I'm going to concentrate on the Month ahead binder. Thanks for the great content - enjoy the rest of your Sunday -its been hot and sunny here today too!

      I look forward to your comments every week! I love the feedback and hearing how you are making out on your own debt journey. I am hoping we will have the greenhouse done by the fall, and usually I would stress about the timeline, but I am trying to remember that things don't have to happen all at once, it is ok to do them when you have time if there isn't a real time crunch. I know what it is like with the vehicle maintenance, our van is 2010 and is starting to need more regular repairs, but thankfully both vehicles are paid off :) We also need new winter tires for at least on our vehicles this year, should be both, but one set is still decent and will make it for another year. Good luck on the emergent savings it is such a relief when you have something in the bank when things go wrong!

      Thank you for your continued support! Love seeing your comments on the videos, keeps me motivated to keep doing them :) I'm not sure if I ever specifically said my goal, but we would like to have 10k for our emergency fund, when our month ahead is completed it will contribute to the 'emergency fund" account as 10k would cover 1 month of all the bills along with some money for any unexpected expenses that might pop up.

    • @SimpliBudgets
      @SimpliBudgets 24 дні тому

      We have 2 acres of land, so lots of space for a greenhouse and I have always wanted a greenhouse to be able to start plants from seed. I am also designing an enclosed raised bed garden for both vegetables and cut flowers. I have wanted a garden here since we bought the house, but there have been other projects that were higher priority. Just working at it little bits at a time, trying to use as many free or up cycled products as possible!

    Do consider better draw string drapery rods; the tend to come with a center, right, or left side pulls. The better rods will enable heavier drapes. The even better rod systems will enable a drape facing the roommside, a drape liner, and a curtain or sheer; some used to offer 4 layers with a curtain and also a sheer. Maybe install in one room that you can buy off the shelf window dressings (drapes, curtains, sheers) for to see if they would work for you aesthetically and elsewise; pick one of the hottest or coolest rooms; thtift store window dressings would make the trial even cheaper . Once you get into the world of custom drapes, things can get expensive. Also look at box valances. Many call for 1"x4" or even heavier wood, the accompanying hardware, paint, and upto big holes through the walls. They cannbe made from art and stationery store foam board with much less of all the rest including cost.

    I like how you've established caps on at least some of your sinking fund envelopes. This allows you to have money set aside and also redirect cash flow to other envelopes/ sinking funds. Consider also writing mini-budgets for your sinking envelopes. I'll pick on Christmas. A budget for Christmas would include a list of people you want to gift and then a maximum amount each. If the Christmas budget is to include decor and decorations, a maximum for that. Some include stocking stuffers, extra holiday groceries, extra holiday eating out, travel costs for gatherings, and so on. Which brings us to another good thing to do with the assorted savings envelopes and sinking funds. And that is to WRITE a description of what each envelope is to cover. As the sums accumulate, the debt is paid down, and income changes do be sure to review and adjust both expectations. For example the Emergency Fund is sort of an undesignated buffer against all things. But if you move beyond regular maintenance and oil changes in the car maintenance fund to cover semi-major routine bigger ticket things or semi-major repairs (ie brakes, tires, etc..) then caps and designations can begin to change. As you begin to accumulate enough money to take care of the more planned things in the car maintenance fund and be able to replentish things like oil changes, you may decide to make the car maintenance fund also cover unplanned, more major repairs and also maintenance like a timing chain and/ or water pump replacement. In turn, this may affect the emergency fund needs. Similarly, house repairs/ appliance replacement and health funds can begin with a limited set of expectations with the general emergency fund taking up the slack as needed. As/ if dollars accumulate in these categories the expectations of what each category's fund is cover should be reviewed.

    • @SimpliBudgets
      @SimpliBudgets 2 місяці тому

      Thank you for watching my video. You made some really great points! We don't have anything written down for expectations, but I think you may be right, it would be easier to keep track of and monitor as things change over time. As with most things, when you are trying to create new habits, it is important to start small and build on those habits, our main goal when we started on this journey was to have more awareness of where our money was going and to pay off the debts we had accumulated.

    I like how you slashed the $20 on anniversary, left it in without whiteout, and visibly changed the other 2 line items. In a month or two you will be able to readily see what was done. It will be possible although with maybe a little more struggle to tell in a year or few too.

    • @SimpliBudgets
      @SimpliBudgets 2 місяці тому

      I have found over the last few months, that I like to have a budgeted and actual column so it is easier to track, and by putting a line through the items I am not planning to stuff that week, it tells me that it was not because I didn't have the funds, it was either it wasn't needed that week or was already fully funded.

    • @terryhenderson424
      @terryhenderson424 2 місяці тому

      @@SimpliBudgets In old school, actual pen and paper accounting books and ledgers it was not uncommon to make written notes at the end or bottom of a closeout period to indicate anonomlies and/ or to shortcut ledger/ journal review by others or a year to few down the road. Either that and/ or a written report summarizing each ledger and journal plus anything of interest which was non standard. Unless you feel so inclined, I would skip the written report by gosh yet feel comfortable to add notes to the bottom or back of the page. In this case, maybe Mothers Day replaced by Property Taxes; x fund fully funded at $y, monies being redirected.

    On or off camera, consider a debt interest tracker. Using the statements and being off a kiss with respect to the dates is fine. What you want are the dollars of interest paid on each account in a manner that you can compare one debt to the next. Exactly how you set it up depends upon how the debts accrue interest. For example daily compounded interest accounts are a little more complicated because principle only payments cannot be made yet the earlier you make extra payments the fewer interest dollars you will pay in the end; every extra payment has an interest charge for the daily interest added to amount owed upon which one pays interest the next day. Seeing the amount of interest paid in dollars compared to the amount that goes to principle of one account compared to another can impact decisions about which accounts to make an account of emphasis. It can impact a decision to make a windfall extra payment along the way (even a modest amount); and generally continue in with the old minimum payment to make better headway.

    • @SimpliBudgets
      @SimpliBudgets 2 місяці тому

      I have actually started using a tracker for this recently and it has really given some clarity on some of our debt.

      @@SimpliBudgets i learned this as a math class problem (it made an impact which immune it was suppose to) and that is "functional interest"; I have nomcluecifvits a real term. For a minimum payment: ($int/$min)×100 Of course the same equation can be used to showcase the power of principle-only payments or accelerated repayment too.

  • @terryhenderson424
    @terryhenderson424 2 місяці тому

    Super congratulations on all this debt payoff! It sounds like you are snowballing the sum of the minimums of the paid off debt towards additional debt pay down. But in terms of mental health worries, being able to handle bumps in the road of unplanned expenses, and anything related to a month ahead fund - You are now obligated to a much smaller monthly budget. Don't forget to count reduced mandatory monthly minimums among your wins. As you tackle larger debts with minimums based upon the balance owing, keeping cognizant of the creditor's minimum payment reductions can be additionally motivating.

    Without knowing (wanting or needed to know) the specifics of your accumulated back injuries - please, please use your medical knowledge to keep plugging away at continued back healing and health. Most long term medical studies are 18, 36, or 60 months long. Having known individuals with a number of different, what I will collectively call mobility and strength issues in my medical ignorance, the body is a miraculous thing and over time it can often do far more than what they say can be done. Of course not always but where there's a will there's a way with alternatives to be learned. It seems more people put more of thier windfall money against debt this year than last. I congratulate you for doing so. If you think of it as an investment, folks generally get a far higher rate of return in terms of interest dollar savings than most other legal investments when they pay off debt.

      I definitely think of it as an investment and we are always trying to figure out ways to capitalize on unexpected windfalls to make the most of the debt repayment journey. We just keep telling ourselves, that we will be able to do amazing things with the money we will free up when we are no longer paying off debts! We will be able to better plan for retirement and go on many more travels to explore this beautiful world we live in!

    Oh my goodness, that is so so very exciting that you will go to Holland as a family for the 80th anniversary of Liberation Day!! Have you ever read the Hiding Place?? It's my all time favorite book. Someday I will get there to visit the Ten Boom home, where they hid Jewish people and which is now a museum. Will you have a chance to see that?? I think history is so important to study and remember. WW II is probably my favorite era to study.

      I have not read that book, but I will definitely add it to my list to read. We are hoping to go for 2 weeks so we can do some tourist things while we are there as this is probably going to be a once in a lifetime opportunity for my husband and I. I am very excited and this has just motivated me a bit more to make sure we are able to make this work by saving and paying off as much as we can between now and then.
