If you read the report by the National Transportation Safety Board, he did not request VFR flight following and so had no technical assistance to mark him of danger, and didn’t file a flight plan, and flew over dark water when he should have stayed close To shore for visual reference (the lights), and he didn’t use autopilot when he should have. Given these facts it appears he was clumsy and had not enough concern for the lives of his wife and her sister; perhaps a result of being told “yes” too often in his life due to celebrity. Apparently Carolyn herself was scared to get on the flight. She knew her husband well I think.

What the narrator is leaving out is the fact that John and Caroline did not have this whirl wind romance they had a chaotic relationship where they broke up got into physical fights, and John cheated on her profusely and did not hide it from her which led them to eventually separate and moving out of their Manhattan apartment and into a hotel while Caroline stayed in their Manhattan apartment. He went back to dating his ex-girlfriend Cristina Was still in contact with Caroline and still was very controlling and manipulative towards her. He knew that they were headed towards divorce, but he did not want the media to get wind of it before his cousins wedding at Martha's Vineyard. So during their separation, he kept in contact with Caroline using manipulative tactics in order for her to get on that claim with him and attend the wedding, which she denied because she knew John had no experience as a pirate and he was a very reckless person to boot. On the sidenote I have to let you know that John was a very reckless individual who put his ex-girlfriend Cristina in very dangerous situation where she almost were killed, but he sounded thrilling being on the edge. Caroline was terrified to get on planes with him so much so that she would take commercial flight to join him whenever they travel or she drove that's how terrified she wasn't flying. John also had a broken ankle that had a cast on it and the cast was removed the day before that fateful flight, and despite all the warning from experience, begging him not to fly because of the bad weather and is in the pilot. He chose to fly anyway, but people don't know John has been popping pills and drinking white wine before the flight so he was already not in any condition to fly or even to drive anywhere, but of course, true Kennedy's form he had to do what he wanted to do, regardless of who he was putting at risk.Caroline reluctant, her sister talked her into going because she wanted Caroline and John to make up into work on her marriage so she went with Caroline and John on that flight and unfortunately they never made it to the Vineyard.
