Sometimes what we consider to be conventional wisdom can be a stumbling block. "Take a big breath," "blow through the phrase," "building endurance," "strengthening chops," etc., sound like good things, but in the end I believe they mostly just serve the ego. And the ego is what mostly holds us back from achieving our potential. The "ego" or the conscious self, wants to be the doer and achiever ...

William Lovelock, Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra, Mvt. 1, Rehearsal #15. Practice video. When I incorporate something a little more difficult into my daily routine, it gradually becomes more routine and less of a big deal. This one still has some refinement to do and a couple more clicks up on the metronome, but it's getting there in terms of being able to keep a quiet mind. When I was a yo...

Beautiful performance!!
Awesome performance!
Fantastic performance, Gil, and I really liked the piece!
Excellent - soothing sound. Thank you for sharing your talent - inspirational
@@JamesOBanion-h7q thanks Jim. Have a safe and blessed holiday.
Your playing filled my heart with joy!
outstanding
Beautiful playing, Gil!
This is a good example of fully committed practicing alone, gorgeous sound. I was thinking if you wanted to start a group it could be called Toot Ensemble. Very Happy holidays to you and yours.
👏
11:57 West Side Story!!!
Bravo Gil !!! You sound fantastic!
@@josephlovinsky8307 you and I need to play some Mahler together!!
So I’m out hunting music for next year’s recital and thought “Quiet City”. (I have a friend who’s an oboe/eEnglish horn player.) AND Here you guys are! I’m betting this will be my go to version just like your Pilss Sonata!👏👏👏 PS Our performance of Pilss went really well. I have a recording, but haven’t listened to it yet. I was very satisfied and I’m not ready to start nitpicking!😅 All the best. I’m sure I’ll enjoy this!!!
Thank you so much! I needed to hear this for a reference. I'm doing a duette with someone this spring, and this was huge help.
OK guys, we’re putting it on our Family and Friends Recital program for April!!! (The whole thing!😳) We’re slow but we get there eventually!🤣
Where and when? Livestream?
@@tootsweet4us I’m afraid we’re way too amateur to broadcast very widely. (Hence Friends and Family) It will be April 6th in Gillette, Wyoming and maybe April 7 in Spearfish S.D. The program will also include Kreisler’s “Liebesfreud”, “Concierto d’ Aranjuez” (Brassed Off version) and Ewazen’s “A Song From the Heart”!
@@dougdumbrill7234 if you do get video, I’d love to watch if you could share it over a private UA-cam link.
Gorgeous playing! Have always loved this piece, and it's not performed often enough. Wanted to also mention that we have a mutual connection - Jack Brndiar pointed me to your UA-cam channel!
Well hello there! And thanks for your kind words. And I agree, this piece needs to be played more. Thanks for listening and please share! 🎶🎺
This is a great piece played very well.

Die Interpretation ist sehr gut gelungen 🤍❕🫶 Dank, dafür aus Bayern. Es ist sehr lobenswert was ihr für Karl Pilß getan habt ❕
Thank you, Bernhard! Your kind words mean a lot to me. I love this piece and hope more people will begin to play it. ❤️

Sweet
Hey guys! I shared your video with my pianist. I think you won her over. We worked on putting the third and second movements together yesterday (her choices). Really fun. I think it will be a great piece for us. Thanks!👍👏👏😁
It’s the closest thing we trumpeters have to Brahms. Excellent.
@@tootsweet4us You might enjoy Ridenour playing “Sonatensatz” on You Tube. It’s a transcription of Brahms but it sounds almost like he had trumpet in mind. Great performance!👏😁
you sound wonderful. 👏
Thank you Hedi Lamar and George..wifi blue tooth
The trumpeter has an absolutely brilliant sound! Tone, centering, pitch, attack - everything works in this piece. Just a perfect trumpet performance.
Thanks so much for your kind words! Please feel free to share with students and colleagues. 🎶🎺
I was working on learning this tonight. Progress is slow. I came by to enjoy my favorite version. Can’t believe you guys haven’t been “discovered” yet!😉👏👏👏
Doug, thank you! Please feel free to share! This piece is the closest thing we trumpeters have to Brahms. Although Pilss was active in the twentieth century, he was steeped in the late romantic Viennese tradition and continued to write in that style throughout his life. Wonderful piece.
Beautiful!
How fantastic it is! Can I share this by reposting your channel on a nice platform named Gan Jing World? For sure that I will not change anything. If you are fine with that, please let me know. Thank you
Thank you for your kind words. I think sharing with individual people is fine with me, but I would rather not have my content as part of another social media platform. Please enjoy it but also please do not post to Gan Jing World.
Excellent 🎉

Nice 🔥🎺
Fantastic concerto. Looking forward to seeing a full recording?
Thank you Jesse - it’s definitely on my bucket list of pieces to record!

Thank you, this has helped with my practise a ton!
Excellent!! So glad it could be of help!!
Playing this for a band competition. This recording is such a big help. Thank you so much!
Great Caleb! I'm so glad it could help! Good Luck!
@@tootsweet4us Thanks!
Nice recording! Enjoy this Blacher trio a lot, entertaining music. Did you do other trios like Koetsier Gran Trio and Irish Trio too? Musical greeting from the Netherlands 🎶🎺
Thanks for listening! I haven’t played the Koetsier trios but I’ll definitely check them out. I love his Symphony for Brass and have performed it several times over the years.
@@tootsweet4us the Koetsier trios are great and extensive like symphonies. Cousins by H.L. Clarke you probably will know, nice for recital. I might know more repertoire 🤔
@@tootsweet4us Fandango Turner is a nice duo piece too! 🎶🎺
We also did the Jacques Casterede Sonatine, which I really enjoy, also posted here. And The Mystic Trumpeter by Friedrich Wildgans for soprano voice and trumpet is very interesting. One that I would like to do someday is “Confluences” by Chuck Owen. The recording by Jay Coble and Tom Brantley is quite good.
There is also a nice piano reduction for Copland’s Quiet City, which is on my channel as well. Possibly my favorite.
Great sound !! Bravo, j'adore cette pièce en plus. Merci pour cette version.
Merci, mon ami!!
Sounds great! I'm doing this with my brother for a local music event, which should be fun!
Excellent! Enjoy!
Bravo les Cuivres ^^

It’s a work in progress. Still learning.
Beautiful Embechre 😎🎺❤️

i think this is rehearsal 19 but it's my favorite part of the symphony. Amazing Playing!
Thanks for the kind words! The part I have show it as the 15th measure of rehearsal #18, ending the bar before rehearsal #19. One of my favorite moments in the piece.
Nice flow
Beautiful!
Thanks for listening, Paul!
I don’t think it gets any better than this, Gil Hoffer! Wow!
