Artist Talk with Keenan Perren
In his solo exhibition, Keenan Perren showcases a new body of work using broken skateboards to create layered compositions that highlight human connection and reflect on past experiences. The work is inspired by friends and family, the skateboard community, and the landscape of everyday life.
Keenan Perren is a self-taught artist originally from Vineland, NJ, now living in Bradenton, FL. Growing up in New Jersey, Keenan fell in love with skateboarding and began to experiment with art. After moving to Florida he began to mix the two interests. Using no paint, Perren takes broken and discarded skateboards and transforms them into works of art, creating detailed collages, portraits and sculptures from this alternative material. Piece by piece he constructs images of everyday life through his eyes.
Perren’s work has been exhibited in several exhibitions including “Sonder'' at Higher Art Gallery, Traverse City, MI, “Pop” at Art Center Sarasota, “Love Art, Love People'' at SPAACES, Sarasota, FL, “All My Friends'', Sarasota, FL and “Raw Foundation”, Bradenton, FL. Articles featuring Perren’s work include Voyage Tampa, March 2023; Sarasota Magazine, November/December 2020; and Sarasota Herald Tribune, November 2019.
Artist Statement
I really enjoy taking something that I love and trying to give it new life. It's really important to me not to paint over the skateboards. I feel like showing all of the scratched graphics, markings, and chips shows how much life they had and what someone went through with them. To me, it gives the figures that I make with them more life and personality.

Astounding. Without any of the skateboard narrative, his art stands up on its own.
Hi your fabulous I was wondering what brand of water colour s U r using
Loose suggestions and leaving out details make for a fresh painting. The result is great but she is like Julia Child, "oops, how did that happen?" Fun.
Really interesting content but the sound is too garbled to enjoy it.
Thank you for your feedback Stacey! We're glad we can share critiques with more people this way but will certainly look into utilizing microphones for future recordings.
