My Grandmas were both Italian, so, except for backyard greens, we're a wash.
Familiar foods for an Aussie even today.
That is so great to hear!
I make my version of Ambrosia every Thanksgiving and Christmas. Mines called 5 cup salad; tiny iranges pineapple sour cream mini marshmelliws and coconut. Drain well mix eat!!. Then again i was birn in 1956. Plus had neatloaf last week!!
Sounds amazing! We will try this version :)
None of that i would even eat. Watched a video of depression food that looked better.
You missed some things. Fried hash from the can. Ham salad. Tuna noodle casserole. A frozen box of ocean perch, defrosted, coated with ground saltines and fried. A lot of pancakes for dinner because of 3 brothers.
Oh yes! We remember all of these. Maybe we create a part 2!
To make liver taste less strong soak it in milk for a few hours. But too long will take all the taste out of it. Couple of hours is good. I love liver. Just don't over cook it.
Oh gosh! overcooked liver becomes rubber!! Will try soaking in milk!
@VintageUSADiaries specially the beef liver. Calf liver is not as strong tasting. A hour soak may make it taste better if the calf liver is too strong tasting. But definitely the beef liver should be soaked in milk. You probably can cut a bit off and cook and taste it to see if it soaked enough.
@VintageUSADiaries a tiny bit of pink in the center is about right. Not a lot of pink. It seems to taste sweet ((not like candy, just a good taste)
I LOVE liver and onions! However, you have to make it right... Don't overcook the liver! It has to be "done" but NOT overdone! It becomes shoe leather if overcooked!
That's when you smothered it with ketsup - well my 3 brothers did
yes I rember orchards of apples.
We had liver and onions once a week. My one food I did not not half to eat was liver. I got the bacon and onions. I still hate liver so take dry capsules. It is not any less healthy now.
Yep. Still healthy. Still on the icky side.
great video, I remember them all. Then it was family unity enjoying each other without CELL phones. Thank You for the memories of what Christmas was......
Aww Thank YOU for watching. We plan to create more memories so please subscribe!
Making me hungry 😊
We were hungry when creating this! 😂
Yes, leftovers were used
Always! ❤️
all this food you showing most I never had. My parent did not know how to cook. I get many ideas from the You tube.
I would as a child would hide my liver in mash potato just to swallow it.
Yuck. I rather just eat the potatoes
@@shawnkelly695 understood but mother said we must eat liver. so I hid it in middle so not taste it
@karenharris3183 just the thought of swallowing liver and the smell as it cooks. I cook liver for my dogs and gotta open the window. What a nasty meat lol. I hope that things are better for you now and you get to eat better tasting food
@@shawnkelly695 ya now I am old and my own cook . made terrific cheese broccoli soup . and today cooked red peppers , onion, potato, yellow squash, with Turkey
I still grow and can (or freeze) a lot of my veggies. Pickled beets are one of our faves. Also make meatloaf with ketchup glaze.
Meatloaf with ketchyp glaze is the best!
I add a bit of BBQ sauce to the ketchup glaze.
I'll pass on the corn fritters and the succotash (I have a mild corn allergy).
Lol allergies that never existed just 20 yrs ago. Now everyone has food allergies. I call bull shit to 90%.
I'm old enough to remember when food was REAL< not brought to you by MONSANTO, BILL GATES or NESTLE or any of the other absolutely EVIL "Food Company's.'' or BILLIONAIRES.
Yes 💯!!
you really need to do research...no seriously, you need REAL RESEARCH!
I so agree.
Your video is very good but some problem.
America is getting something new, a fusion cuisine refried Trump Baloney
Someone put a quarter in the AI voiceover assistant already! Thought I was having a stroke at one point.
A.I. sucks ass....
I didn’t see Red Barn in there. Maybe it was just Canadian?? I remember when it was as popular as Burger King.
Great vid but your narration needs a lot of work.
Like, a, lot, of, work, lots of it…
Yes thank you we are working on hiring a VO artist to replace.
Is there anywhere I could apply? I love this sort of stuff and have been told I am good at narration.
Please provide me with your email
Hey man! How do i reach out.
Great video! How do i reach out.
❤
The narration is annoying af
I never cared much for fruitcake, but I always loved my grandmother's fruitcake cookies. I still make them today, but I prefer to make them with pecans, dried orange and cranberries.
I buy a lot of Christoper Radko BUBBLE LIGHTS and other brands it brings me closer to my Loving Grandmother who is passed on
That is so amazing! We LOVE those lights as it keeps traditions alive!
We fix mincemeat pie every year-- sometimes twice if my husband really wants one for his bday. His family has fixed Mincemeat pie when he was growing up. Chestnuts started to go out of style when the chestnut blight almost wiped out the entire chestnut trees and even though they are slowly making a comeback or other varieties- fireplaces are also a thing of the past for a lot of homes.
We also do mincemeat pie as well as some of our neighbors! So delicious!
There's only two things in this video that I don't see anymore: marzipan fruits and chestnut tarts. The rest is very common in my circles in Australia.
That is amazing!! We loved all these desserts and unfortunately these are fading away in America!
