I beat 7 star (and occasionally 5 star) raids in Pokemon Scarlet/Violet solo using a wide variety of species and tera types. Every video is an actual run of the raid, I'm not about speculation. I do it because it's a fun challenge and I like solving puzzles. Questions, comments, and constructive feedback are all welcome and appreciated! If you decide to try out one of the builds, let me know how it goes.
Meganium (Attacker) - Duos - 7 Star Torterra Raid - Pokemon Scarlet/Violet
Rating: 8/10. acid spray, snarl, and chilling water support needed. Build details in description.
Meganium @ Covert Cloak
Ability: Overgrow
Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA
Modest Nature
- Grass Knot
- Giga Drain
- Reflect
- Light Screen
Vitamins: 25 HP Up (or Health Mochi), 25 Calcium (or Genius Mochi)
Feathers: 2 Health Feathers, 2 Genius Feathers
Stats at lvl 100 w/ perfect IVs:
HP : 364
Defense : 236
Sp.Atk .: 291
Sp.Def. : 236
Speed : 196
Support Requirements : special defense debuff through shield (acid spray), attack debuff through shield (chilling water), and special attack debuff through shield (snarl).
Example Supporter: ua-cam.com/video/1Vzpg6O6v7w/v-deo.html
Strategy: light screen (optionally renewing 1-2 times when it expires). reflect (optionally renewing 1-2 times when it expires). 3x giga drain. terastalize. giga drain when you need HP. grass knot to victory.
Notes: a physical build doesn't need acid spray so it can be supported by a wider range of supporters, but it needs a shell bell, healing support, or synthesis. charm or curse can replace reflect, light screen, or grass knot, reducing the need for chilling water support. with adequate support, you can reduce use of screens from 3 each to 2 or 1 each, or none at all. you'll take more damage but speed up the run. bulldoze or trailblaze can be used to outspeed. mud-slap is worth considering too.
Pros: supereffective tera type matching base type, great HP stat, decent defense and special defense stats, excellent special attack stat. resists earthquake, earth power, and wood hammer. no weaknesses. reflect and light screen halve damage from physical and special attacks respectively for 4-5 turns. grass knot and giga drain have 100 accuracy and deal supereffective STAB (tera-boosted when terastalized) damage. grass knot has 120 base power due to torterra's heavy weight. giga drain heals 50% of damage dealt. covert cloak prevents special defense debuffs from earth power. overgrow gives 1.5x damage boost when HP is below 1/3rd.
Cons: outsped by torterra

Do you think normal Lilligant will fare well against Torterra?
definitely. it has quiver dance and a good base special attack stat, solving the 2 problems that pushed the hisuian form into duos. i'll run it soon.
Smack Down on turn 1 didn't eliminate Gengar's Levitate?
gengar didn't have levitate on turn 1. i was wondering if smack down could preemptively negate levitate before you acquire it via skill swap, and it turns out that it cannot.
I feel like Toadscruel is somewhat slow imo
If you mean duration wise, it's fairly mid if you compare the length of this video to my other videos. Acid spray makes for a quick setup, but it's held back by its special attack stat, since it could not have EVs as it needed HP/Def
I just had a thought, does covert cloak block smack down's effect? edit: looking at the bulbapedia page for additional effects(which are what covert cloak blocks), smack down isn't listed, I will test this later
@themoagoddess1820 pretty sure it doesn't. Lmk the result of your test
@@DaniSoloRaids turns out it doesn't work, lucky torterra is silly or my haunter would be suffering right now for lack of eviolite funny side note: when looking for a torterra raid to test this with two black crystal ground raids spawned, and a torkoal was in the first one I looked in.
@themoagoddess1820 it happens 1 in every 18 times that you reroll your raid dens, but I still get a kick out of it every time
@@DaniSoloRaids I didn't know Torkoal was in 1 in 18 raid dens!
@themoagoddess1820 lol
I don’t get it, I’m following your exact build, including evs and ivs and still cant stay alive from the earth power
That is unexpected. How far are you getting before getting KO'd? Are you keeping your HP up with giga drain? Getting the taunt in so it never gets above +2 spatk? You have contrary, right? It's needed to invert earth power's debuffs.
yooo, this one worked perfectly, thanks for the set
@@Iris_Descent Glad to hear it! 😀
no prob, been looking through your stuff and this seems like a really good channel to recommend :)
can you try with a hisuian liligant ?
@@jeffreyzess6998 sure
@@DaniSoloRaids sounds great, he can learn victory dance and I think quiver dance
i tried it solo and even with a specially defensive EV spread and nature it takes too much damage from earth power. it base special attack stat is too low to try to run it as a giga drain build. so i just went with a physical duos attacker build. ua-cam.com/video/mU6RVJRs2C4/v-deo.html
i need to try this build
Purifying itself shortly after using Shell Smash gives Torterra all the benefits with none of the detriments. Good strategy.
Thanks a bunch dani
cheers this strat is so easy GO Gogoat!
it's not often that a 2 move strat is viable, so i figured i may as well take advantage of the opportunity 😁
Hey Dani just wanted to say i loved this build... Would u mind if i made a video on it with giga drain instead of drum beating.. ill give creds in the desc. If not its totally fine
@PogoAqua you're the 2nd person yo ask me for this. I was planning to make it later today
@PogoAqua oh my bad I misread your question. You're asking if I'm okay with you making a giga drain video on your channel and crediting me. Yeah that's fine. Though you might want to wait and see what I come up with for my giga drain build first. Should be available in a few hours.
@@DaniSoloRaids Oh ok Dani. Sounds good. Originally I was going to tinker around with the EVs and make a "new" build centered around Giga Drain. But if you suggest I will wait for the new build :)
@@PogoAqua here's my giga drain rillaboom vid: ua-cam.com/video/0dMyprI2VLU/v-deo.html up to you if you want to use it as is or change up the EVs, moves, item, etc. Please link to one of the two Rillaboom videos in your video descripton where you give me credit. And when it's published, send me a link so I can check it out.
Oooh a classic! Luxray is one of my favorites. I managed to solo the 7* Charizard with a Fairy Tera Luxray.
Whats the nature?
Modest
Yo dude, can you try orthworm metronom tera grass tera blast with coil
@@K3nnan I already made an orthworm video, so it's a bit lower priority to make another one just for a different tera type, but I'll try to get to it
I've tried this like 10 times in a row with no intimidator, and I can't manage to get the win. I just can't get enough defense bufs off before I'm stuck in low HP with no way out.
That is unfortunate. Next time I roll a no intimidator team I will try it myself. If I pull it off I'll let you know how and if not I'll clarify the intimidator requirement. I appreciate the dedication
Finally ! A better Rillaboom build 🫶 Edit-I feel like instead of drum beating, maybe giga drain (every grass types needs a drain back so it’s faster that way maybe? Just a thought)
@Bear-iu4cr rillaboom has a bad special attack stat and it's only way to buff it is growth which is slower than swords dance. So that might not work all that well
@Bear-iu4cr you know what though, its special attack stat is the same as leafeon's, and I was able to run leafeon as a special giga drainer. The hard part would be that unlike leafeon it doesn't get spdef buffs along with it's spatk buffs, so it would require extra turns to snarl. Maybe I'll give it a shot and see if I can get it to work
@Bear-iu4cr the special rillaboom build worked out. it's actually slower than the physical one, substantially, which makes sense because it's held back not only by its base special attack stat but also by growth being slower to buff than swords dance. ua-cam.com/video/0dMyprI2VLU/v-deo.html
One Grass/Ground pokemon versus another.
This looks good so far. My build of Lurantis consist of Modest Nature, Tera Grass, Giga Drain, Leaf Storm, Superpower, and Protect. But like yours, face cons of being outsped by Torterra.
@ChuanHsieh-x8c sounds like the only difference is protect. Makes sense to open with it so the NPC defense cheer is active the first time you take damage, and perhaps also on the turn contrary is disabled to prevent an earth power debuff. I'd be concerned about the earth power damage with torterra at +4 special attack though unless I had help from bellibolt light screen or sylveon moonblast. Skitter smack drops it to a more manageable +2.
First
Interesting build. What is the deal with seed bomb? I think I saw it on Brute Bonnett.
brute bonnet can learn seed bomb, but i didn't put it on my brute bonnet build because brute bonnet, like most grass types, is better off being ran as a special attacker in this raid for the giga drain healing. seed bomb is just a basic 80 BP physical grass attack with no secondary effects. once you terastalize it's indistinguishable from tera blast. it happens to be the strongest physical grass move that many grass types can learn that doesn't have major downsides like wood hammer. chesnaught doesn't have the base stats or move pool to work as a giga drain build, so seed bomb + shell bell is a substitute for physical giga drain / horn leech.
Serperior solo raid này cũng khả ổn. Đã solo 2 lần đều qua dễ dàng
yeah serperior is great. similar to ogerpon in that it's a grass type with a healing move, taunt, and an attack debuff. i have a serperior video on my channel as well: ua-cam.com/video/LXy6dPgvT6g/v-deo.html
It was awesome running a Pokemon for this raid that I made for previous raids. Using Metronome was a bit faster than using Shell Bell, but I never had to run from the raid using Shell Bell. Great video!
@christopherlarson7579 thanks! I recorded a shell bell run of this build first but it was taking so little damage that the shell bell felt totally unnecessary. I could see it becoming useful on bad RNG run though. I very rarely pair a metronome with a non healing attack, but this seemed like the time to do it if there ever was one.
@ which build would you say has been both the fastest and most consistent in your opinion? lol I’m too cheap with my exp. Candies and Tera shards to experiment
@@christopherlarson7579 im not really sure how to answer the question when the fastest build is not the most consistent. my fastest build was land shaymin. once ive gotten a run good enough to upload that's typically the last time i run a build, so my assessment of consistency is based on a prediction and not experience. i would expect the most consistent build to be arceus or brute bonnet.
Dude I think i tried this with venasaur before but I think I got KO’d immediately I believe (probably it was build for a different raid that’s why)
Yeah the EVs and the presence of an intimidator are crucial to preventing venusaur from getting KO'd in this raid.
@ tbf I think last time with Venasaur, I got one hit KO’d with earthquake
If you don't have it lined up already, Swalot is another nice poison base type solo option.
@@JustinRuggles that's going to be tough given the ground weakness. I was not considering it, but I can look into it. Have you tried it yet?
yeah it has worked for me a couple times with no intimidators. had to use the balloon to get off clear smog turn 1 without getting KO'd and use stockpile to buf defenses.
@JustinRuggles nice. I was thinking about acid armor and Amnesia, but I realized that it doesn't have room for both of them seeing as it needs a primary attack, a damage boost, and clear smog. Stockpile consolidates to one move slot, so that seems like a good call. On a physical build curse could consolidate the defense buff and damage boost to make room for Amnesia.
@@DaniSoloRaidsAfter some more runs, it seems I was getting kind of lucky at the start. It has been closer timer-wise but more reliable overall to not use Stockpile and just chase down the grass tera even if you go down once.
can Leavanny and Lurantis solo this ? i know leavanny can learn iron defense and struggle bug, i think lurantis can learn both moves
leavanny will have an easier time. lurantis can't learn iron defense or struggle bug, so it's forced to rely on contrary, with superpower buffing its defense, and earth power buffing its special defense. i tried with leavanny a couple of days ago and couldn't get it to work, but it felt doable so i was gonna come back to it. i'll try both of them soon
@@DaniSoloRaids I forgot that lurantis can’t learn iron defense, I was thinking a contrary lurantis with superpower to raise defense
leavanny: ua-cam.com/video/oBVqz9uIrpo/v-deo.html
lurantis: ua-cam.com/video/1UHt_rR-9dU/v-deo.html
i have no friends that play this game so i need to do raids solo, you're literally a godsend 😭🙏
Is that supposed to be Iron instead of Zinc? I ended up with 263 SpDef and 188 Def.
It actually did work with that EV spread, but it was really close and seemed much riskier. It didn't use Earth Power at all, but the physical attacks were rough... one crit during setup would've taken me out for sure.
@@JustinRuggles so sorry about that. it was indeed supposed to say Iron. fixed it.
This looks like quite a reliable choice. The only risks seem to be unlucky SpD drops from Earth Power or crit during the Haze turns.
strongest legendary and effektive waiting for this someone do it with this
i might try this with my shiny gogoat
TYSM IT WORKED PERFECTLY new sub :)
fantastic!
@DaniSoloRaids You may have miscalc’d the Speed Torterra has at +4, with a Brave nature. With a Brave nature, Torterra outspeeds base Calyrex by 7 points in Speed.
Beat me to it. At +4 Brave Torterra is at 399 while Calyrex would be at 392. 16 point in speed would leave you with 400 after a psych up.
@@Drapion0Lover how did you arive at 399? from what i can tell brave torterra has a speed of 133, which is why ive been able to outspeed it with a speed of 267 on turn with several builds, since 133 x 2 = 266. 4 speed stages is supposed to be a 3x multiplier. 133 x 3 = 399. okay now i see where i went wrong. i must have gotten 133 mixed up with 122. thanks you two.
Do you happen to have Whimsicott lined up? I keep trying, and I feel like it's so close, but can't quite nail it down.
i do. it was pretty far down the list but i'll bump it up.
@@DaniSoloRaids cool, thanks!
this is wild. i keep coming witihin 1 turn of winning but haven't been able to pull it off in 4 attempts, with 3 other attempts thwarted by critical hits. gonna have to circle back to it.
Hey how about Abomasnow? Abi Snow Warning, moves: Snowscape, Aurora Veil, Growth/ or Curse for Atk + Def increase, spam Blizzard or Ice beam. I wanna try it but the event is over.
if using curse, im thinking ice punch or ice spinner
too bad you went online after the event ended. for these events where it's two consecutive weekends with a break in between, if you stay offline after the first weekend until the 2nd weekend starts, you get one uninterrupted 9 day event. i have an abomasnow prepped but i haven't gotten to it yet. it would perform far better as a giga drain build with grass tera, so it's kind of hard to justify running it ice tera just for the sake of using ice tera since it's essentially a handicap.
Do it again! This time without Glastrier.
planning on it.
@@DaniSoloRaids great job Dani 😀😊 did you make a grass Tera Florges build yet for this raid ? I was thinking you can give it giga drain, reflect, chilling water and calm mind holding shell bell or covert cloak or you can have one of your friends join you if they bring a support Pokémon if needed
@@jeffreyzess6998 i replied to your original comment about florges explaining why it's not going to work in solo but i will run it in duos.

@MrSchrutefarms69 I haven't yet but I was planning to. Are you certain it gets haze? I looked it up and it said that it doesn't. I beat the raid with ice rider and wasn't able to teach it haze, and AFAIK ice rider can learn all of base calyrex's moves
@@DaniSoloRaidsI was referring to shadow rider Caly and it should learn it from everything I can tell.
@MrSchrutefarms69 what is "everything you can tell" based on, and what is the learning mechanism? Maybe try it yourself because I think you may be mistaken
grass calyrex: ua-cam.com/video/S9pwt_e1dj4/v-deo.html also, it doesn't have nasty plot. you may have been thinking of shadow rider, which has nasty plot and haze. that one would be harder to run since it doesn't have a supereffective base type. i'll consider running it if someone explicitly requests it.
yoooo, it's my little man challenging his father
how would a Chesnaught fare at this raid?
should be doable. it may be harder because it doesn't have the base stats or move set to be ran as a special attacker. i'll give it a shot.

Try Iron Leaves soon.
i actually finished it right before you posted this comment, but it was a sloppy run because i was tired, so i decided to rerecord it. gonna do that now.

Why did let that Torterra run away
These guides are really helpful lad! Thanks for these!
Is that a real pokemon
I'm not one to leave a lot of comments on videos, but I will say I really appreciate that you add in the description how much consumables are needed to get the stats up. I struggle with videos that just show me raw numbers and don't show me how to get there. So I just wanted to share my appreciation. Thank you
Crazy…
Everyone and their grandmother whom mentioned Orthworm in this raid go towards the Body Press set. I went with Tera Steel & Iron Tail, Coil, Mud-Slap, Protect. Metromeme and the 30% defense down can speed thing along.
oh that's brilliant, coil increases your accuracy so that iron tail always lands, and it doesn't cost extra turns cuz its bundled with the attack and defense buffs. I'm gonna run it. If I like it, I'll upload it and credit you.
I tried it. It was fun, but it did not achieve "can speed thing along" reliably. My attempt ran 64 seconds longer than the one in this video. i'm sure with better RNG it could have produced a faster run.
Well it does rely on a 30% to drop defense to overall increase damage & speed. I simply like going Tera Steel to resist Wood Hammer post-Tera. Well I'm glad you found the idea fun to use, sorry the result weren't good.
why curse though? is it just faster than withdraw(edit: animation-wise)?
i did not realize that withdraw had a shorter animation. i'll keep that in mind. thanks for pointing it out 😀in retrospect it should have been obvious because there is a separate animation for increases and for lowering stats. so a move like curse that includes both stat increases and stat decreases is obviously going to have a longer animation than a move like withdraw that only decreases.
description now says Curse / Withdraw in the move section.
Thanks! Works like a charm! Guys please follow the strategy step by step as every step sequence are crucial
You're welcome! I'm so glad to hear it worked out well for you. I agree that this is the sort of strategy that can quickly fall apart if you make any mistakes, but as long as it's correctly executed, it's quite reliable.
a special attacking grotle, huh… what more can i say :3
the turtwig line can work as physical, special, or mixed, and that's true of quite a few grass types. but in this raid, special is nearly always better cuz giga drain.
@DaniSoloRaids Clever usage of Psych Up there. It reminds me of a similarily identical strat I used with a Virizion build, very good work.
