How to Make Deer Tallow Soap | Step-by-Step Tutorial
Welcome to my DIY soap-making tutorial! In this video, I’ll show you how to make your own deer tallow soap from scratch. Tallow, a rendered form of animal fat, is known for its moisturizing and skin-loving properties, making it a fantastic base for homemade soap.
Follow along as I break down the process, from mixing the oils, lye and water to cutting, curing, and testing the pH of your soap bars. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced soap maker, this video will guide you through each step, ensuring you create a beautiful bar of soap with great lather!
🔹 What You’ll Need:
737 grams deer tallow (rendered) Link to my video about rendering deer tallow ua-cam.com/video/wLbDG4aX3Vc/v-deo.htmlsi=9pdzrRDddhNnQkBN
1106 grams olive oil
737 grams coconut oil
366 grams lye crystals (sodium hydroxide)
482 grams distilled water
Essential oils (optional, for fragrance, I used balsam fir)
Soap molds
Safety gear (gloves, goggles, long sleeves)
🔹 Topics Covered:
Mixing Lye and Water - Safety tips and how to handle lye.
Combining Oils & Tallow - How to blend the tallow with other oils to create the perfect soap base.
Pouring into Molds - The art of pouring soap into moulds and letting it set.
Cutting & Curing - Tips for cutting and curing your soap for optimal results.

Winter Walk in The Woods | Do the thing!

Join me on this winter walk in the woods as I take a moment to reflect on my UA-cam journey. It's been an incredible ride filled with creativity, challenges, and growth. During this stroll, I'll share my thoughts on where I've been and where I hope to go next. Plus, I’ll chat about my plans for a camera upgrade that I believe will elevate my content and enhance my storytelling. Nature is the pe...

I put this job off this year because my heart wasn't ready. My journey in growing beans was supported largely by my friend Melissa, who passed away in August. She also introduced me to Seed Savers Exchange, where many of my other beans came from. Seeds don't only provide no...
Chickens are ready for winter | Coop clean out compost!

We use the deep litter method in our chicken coop, which means we only add fresh wood shavings when the coop starts to get dirty and smelly, keeping it fresh for about 6 months. I clean it out in the spring and fall, just before we set them up in their wintering spot. I use the coop clean out to make some amazing compost, mixing it with my fall garden waste. Hi Perry (I hope that assumption is right!) Thanks for watching and for your kind words. Exciting that you are on the hunt for a new canoe, you are lucky to live so close to one of the best paddling destinations in Ontario. I'm glad to hear you are on the mend from your surgery. Life is a gift and it sounds like you are making the best of each day! My canoe is a Swift Prospector 14, it is a Kevlar Fusion with Carbon Kevlar trim and a multi-height seat pod (which I love) it allows you to sit higher or lower in the boat depending on conditions and preference. It weighs about 35lbs and is easy to paddle and portage. Because you live so close to the Park, I would recommend doing what I did, visit the Swift store just outside the Park (beside Algonquin Outfitters) and talk to Karmen, she is a wealth of knowledge and helped me select the best boat for me. I wanted a prospector because of the stability and load capacity, but there are so many options out there, so if you can wait until spring/summer you can go to the store and book a test paddle to try out all of the options before purchasing. Let me know what you land on and happy paddling!

    • @katrinavanosch
      @katrinavanosch 27 днів тому

Thanks so much for watching! It is awesome that you are so close to Lake Simcoe, part of the struggle is just getting there for us! I would recommend trying to find someone to go out with first so you can see what you need and learn tips and tricks. First, we need some ice! You'll need an ice fishing rod and tackle, and you can buy minnows in a few places around the lake. We have built up our set-up over the years, but you can get going with just a few things. If you don't have a hut or windscreen, go out on a sunny day with no wind, it will be a better experience. Canadian Tire usually has some good deals for equipment. Happy fishing!

The fog is so beautiful! I love these kinds of Autumn days. Your dogs are lovely. They looked a bit puzzled but did fine. They'll get used to canoeing, I'm sure. Just a friendly hint -you had your paddle upside down. If the writing on your paddle is upside down, your paddle is upside down. You can also see it if you look closely at the paddle: imagine a horizontal line through the middle. You'll see that the two halves are unequal. One half is a bit shorter and broader. That's the side that should be facing down to the water. I made the same mistake when I started paddling.

Thank you for watching, great question! Canoe allows me to pond-hop or portage and travel between lakes easily whereas that is much more difficult (but not impossible) with a kayak. Different boats for different types of travel. The big Agnes is VERY comfortable and honestly is my preference between the two. Happy tripping!

@@davida463 I film with my iPhone 13 and a DJI action 4. I would love to upgrade one day but camera equipment is expensive! Thanks for watching!

Thank you for the video and for bringing us along on your trip. I spent a lot of time in Algonquin over the 80's, 90’s and 00’s but not since. Now I’m thinking I should get back and try a solo.

Oh yes, you definitely should! I hadn't been in for about 10 years and have reignited my love for this magical place!

Stumbled across your videos but glad I did. Crappy weather but you make the best of it. I’m off to Little Eagle Lake on a solo trip next week so I hope my weather is better. A good video - good video and personalities.
