The official channel for Hastings Traditional Jack in the Green
This custom takes place in the seaside town of Hastings, UK, each May Day Bank Holiday weekend. A Jack in the Green was a urban custom created by chimney sweeps celebrating the coming of summer. The chimney sweeps started carrying larger and larger garlands which got so large they covered an entire person.
The custom was revived in Hastings in the 1980's by Mad Jack's Morris and has grown and grown. There are events throughout the weekend including dancing, drumming, ceilidhs and concerts. The main event is on the bank holiday with a procession through the streets. Thousands of people take to the streets to watch performers from around the UK, and the world. Jack leads the procession that includes morris sides, drummers, bogies, milkmaids, chimney sweeps and many more! Hastings Traditional Jack in the Green is also the largest regular gathering of giants in Britain.
