Hmmm, right hand drive AMC, who knew! I had a white over metallic green two door 'hardtop' (no B pillar) with a 287ci and three speed manual. My Dad was partner in an AMC dealership, so after some due diligence with his parts guy, we found that the four barrel intake manifold from the 327 would fit the 287. Changed the whole character of the car, but the increased torque found a weakness in the trans gears. Three gear sets, and two years later, traded for a new 68 Ambassador with a 327....nice car.

Fantastic car. I wish it was mine. My dad let me drive his '62 Ambo 327 V8 ,on "cruise" nights, with my pals. It was a quick, light little beast in its day. It never let me down.

Those 287's were so, so quiet......extremely amazing FOR a vehicle of its years... quite the ' sleeper' when you pulled up TO ALRIGHT with a camero or barracuda or some loud sports car...

One of the first of many hotrods I built as a teen was a 63 Rambler classic, pulled out the 6 and dropped in an AMC 327 with many mods, ran my buddy who had dropped a 396 into his 68 Camaro, he beat me but not by much, the AMC 327 was a much heavier engine than the Chevy 327 which is what I should have used.

What kind of exhaust do you have? I just got the one. It sounds great!

Where are you at? I didn't even know they made a right hand drive model. I am in Southern California and just got a pretty nice restorable car, I hope it can look as nice as yours.

how reliable would a 80k original 327 be? looks like these are the best Old School, True Roots Muscle cars on the market. I figure a Forged 327 should perform on pat with a GM 327? slap a 4 speed to the 327, if it sucks. swap a cheap 327 Chevy. Cragar SS wheels and some Cooper Cobra white letter radials. :)

Congratulations Peter, you've done a fantastic job of restoration on this beautiful old Rambler Classic.

I owned one of these back in 1974, it was white with red bench seats. I gave it away to an enthusiast, who I hope restored it to its former glory. Seeing this video, has brought back many good memories of the old 1964 Rambler Classic I used to own. I sometimes wish I had kept the old girl & restored it myself when I had the money to do so. Thanks Peter, for sharing this video of a beautiful car.

I had 65 770 sedan with the 287 back then. That engine was so quiet I would forget it was running and turn the key only to grind the flywheel. No car I've had since has even come close to it.
