..." but there are some issues that need addressing. First, a regular service must be restored to Pilning railway station. We are lucky enough in my constituency to have the Wave, the first inland surfing lake of its kind in England, on the edge of Pilning and Easter Compton. That amazing facility opened recently and will attract thousands of tourists. If we do not want people to drive there, which would put pressure on rural road networks with limited capacity, it would be sensible to ensure that they have a reliable rail service, especially because there is a railway station already on the door step."

This is great. The lyrics work really well and I liike singing.
thanks geoff
Also - the 150 at 2:07, was there really a direct service to Brighton or was the destination board just incorrect !?
Great video. Visited Pilning as part of a stag do in 2014 - train from Bristol TM, pub at Stapleton Road, then the Saturday parly train to PIL platform 2, then went to the two local pubs between PIL and Severn Beach, then train back to Bristol !
Interesting video well done.

Just to say - Mr Lopresti! I have been involved with church choirs and the Church since 1978. I have heard and read of your suggestion of rescind of the restrictions over Covid-19 over Easter ! I'm afraid, sir, I take a slightly different view of that! On that basis of this matter. I disagree with the point that was made. I believe that it is not wise. On the basis that it - if pursued - would place vulnerable communities in patently unacceptable risk. As a disabled person myself! I can - and definitely - will fully disagree with your notion. I am one of those who would do so! On my 4 decades involvement with the Church of England. I do hold full digression on that point in order. On the point that it does violate that part of the Church's position on defence of those vulnerable communities in this land. Differ with me! If you wish to do so! That is your right. As a member of both the Church and the Disabled Community. I will do so! And hold to my own view, irrevocably!
You can now help Pilning (if you are British) by signing the Parlimentary Petion to ask the government to step in and demand Network Rail put back the footbridge and Great Western Railway run the station as a request stop: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/269019 The petition runs until 28 February 2020 .
I don't have a song for Pilning, but I do have a petition: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/269019 Reopen Pilning Station's 2nd platform and make it a request stop Great Western Railway run a shoddy service at Pilning Station, to artificially lower passenger stats. Network Rail shut the 2nd platform, without public consultation, to avoid paying for a replacement footbridge. Order Network Rail to reopen the 2nd platform & order GWR to run more trains.

Maybe next year your Christmas Present will be a footbridge and an hourly service EDIT: and platform lighting
Best Xmas lights around
Well done to all involved, shame that is the only lighting on the station and the great western trains have still not give you a grant for platform lighting
Is that it not spectacular at all
Come and show us how it's done proper :)
Its not like GWR would let them put up a full Christmas tree even if it would fit. Good job Pilning and i will try and visit as soon as I can. PS:is anyone watching in 2019 mid November
You should get Graham Larkbey involved on the next one ;-)
Polesworth station feels your pain. <3
Unwanted brand new Footbridge built by Network Rail still awaits a move from Gainsborough Central to Pilning.
Sorry, but Gainsborough Central is going to need it when it gets its hourly service to Sheffield. lincolnshirereporter.co.uk/2018/04/regular-train-service-to-return-to-gainsborough-after-25-years/
@@norbitonflyer5625 the Gainsborough central stopping services in doubt, the dramatic decline in Brigg line passenger numbers over the last 12 months due to the present train operating company not interested in the line lack of promotion from the new community rail partnership plus the fact that they've upset a well respected business partnership in Brigg, and industrial action means there is a cloud on the whole line which includes Gainsborough Central
Brilliant. I hope your imagining comes true!

Love the video and I am in it 👍
I love it. Keep up the great work 😊
#footbridgeforpilning
Network Rail be like: Nah we are busy building railways here in London and Pilning.....where is Pilning
Does the track at Pilning is electrified? Why not cross the tracks? lol #FootbridgeForPilning
airplane guy There is no level crossing at Pilning. Don't forget the station is on the main SWA to PAD line.
Pilning Station whoa Thanks for info

спела лучше чем Шинейд О’Коннор
Nothing can stop us now
Spare new footbridge at Gainsborough Central awaiting 😊
If this doesn’t make Network Rail put the footbridge, I can think of anything else that would!
If Network Rail want more people to use this station then why take away a bridge that helps passengers commute from the station
KianWorld It wasn't high enough to accommodate the overhead wires
That is an hour walk from the Pilning. Isn't the point of public transport to be convenient and able to be used by everyone (even those who can't walk)?
I thought there was an expletive in there at 2:52 for a moment!! 😫😮😶😲🙄
Nothing compares to ... Pilning!
geoff looks emotional
All the tv studios and PR bimbos. I am losing interest.
the akwards should have bus service if more trains are not possible. amtrak cascades does this. the first service each way is two buses that are one hour apart. then two trains each way. this makes three round trips.
The thing is though, Sam, it *is* possible to have more trains at Pilning. The Train Operating Company (Great Western Railway) is running what is called over here a "Parliamentary Service". That is the minimum service they can get away with and not break their licence agreement. They don't want the people of Pilning to use the station, so they pick Saturday to run the trains, so that they are no use for going to work, So if people can not commute on a to and back journey they are going to have to go another way. The organisation that owns the station and the track (Network Rail) is also in on the act. They removed the lights from the platforms (meaning that people will argue that it's not safe for trains to stop at night). More recently, they had a big budget project to electrify the track at Pilning and chose to destroy the footbridge there, rather than convert it to work with the overhead lines. They did this without public consultation and pretended it was a minor change to close half the station. People could actually be driving to Pilning, parking up and then catching trains to Wales (as Pilning is the last train in England before the line goes into a tunnel that crosses the river Severn). They used to have special trains that transported cars under the river in the past. I don't know if any of that historic stuff is still there.
