    In the early 40s my dad and another fellow hiked up to 2nd peak, retrieved a piece of fabric from a plane crash, hung in Dad's workshop til the homesite got sold, now the buildings are just moss relics. Is the trail open to horses. I've explored some Kootney Alpines via horseback, some much more rugged going, make this a walk in a park.

    • @WalksOfWonder-BC
      @WalksOfWonder-BC 15 годин тому

      Thanks for sharing, I heard about the plane crash. I’m not sure how you’d get a horse up there, it’s a very rough road to the trailhead. Although I have heard there’s a trail that begins by Bridal Falls.

  • @semtech30
    @semtech30 6 днів тому

    Hiked to the peak in the 80's. The trail sure looks different. I think it's been changed since. We used to walk right past the pond in spoon valley. To bad you didn't pan farther to the right to show the massive Lady Peak ! The 3 or 4 ponds below on the Blue ridge and Jones lake are nice. I remember hiking up the shale slope directly to the peak. There were many switch backs. Mid August was the best time, more flowers were out. Heard the Rock Pica's whistling back then. Had the kids hang on to a rope on the way down.

    • @WalksOfWonder-BC
      @WalksOfWonder-BC 15 годин тому

      Thanks for sharing. Sounds like the trail has changed over the years. Did you start by Bridal Falls or did you come up the logging road? I didn’t see any Pica’s but I heard some rare birds.

  • @fredbmurphy
    @fredbmurphy 6 днів тому

    I've been to the summit 7 times, once during the winter. The old trail started from the bottom at Popkin Road. It is overgrown today and no longer safe at the summit ridge traverse. It's been 30 years since being in use. Many years back, people downed some logs to block the logging road from everyone just driving up to a 1 1/2 hike (too many people).

    • @WalksOfWonder-BC
      @WalksOfWonder-BC 6 днів тому

      Thanks for sharing. I was wondering about that route, I’ve heard that there was a way up from close to Bridal Falls. Too bad it’s defunct, would be a very challenging hike. Hats off to you for doing it 7 times, that’s quite the accomplishment!

    • @fredbmurphy
      @fredbmurphy 6 днів тому

      @WalksOfWonder-BC mind you I think only 4 of those times was from Bridal Falls, when I was young. The last 2 times I was with a mountaineer, hence the winter hike. The logging road has a left fork about an hour up, which is overgrown. I grew up looking at Mt Cheam everyday as a kid. Mt McFarlane and Mt McGuire are great destinations for other close to 7000 ft peaks in the area. McFarlane is beside Sellesie and McGuire almost directly south of Chilliwack.

      If you have enough clearance it may be possible. I did it in a 4runner with a trailer hitch, and I still bottomed the hitch 4 times on the way up. The drainage ditches are quite large so it’s easy to scrape. Saw a few bumpers and other car parts scattered about. Be careful!!
