    The payout may sound nice, but you have to remember that the higher you go, the less you are allowed to lose and still stay at said rank. Iirc yokozunas often "retire" from a tournament if they've lost one or two bouts so as not to lower their score unnecessarily, and are apparently also "encouraged" to retire instead of continuing in the lower ranks if they keep losing. I'm not sure about the lower ranks though.

      Yokozuna can’t go to lower ranks. If you’re a Yokozuna you stay Yokozuna - or retire.

    This is not a path for the weak. Go watch interviews of all former Yokozuna and how the sumo life was very terrible on their health. Why do you think nearly 95% of sumo wrestlers lose nearly 80% of their weight once they retire? Many sumo athletes have diabetes or are borderline like diabetic.

      That means literally nothing. Plenty of rikishi hail from outside of Japan. Professional sumo has also had very notable foreign rikishi, especially from Europe. Tochinoshin, who may be the single reason a lot of current foreign fans are fans of the sport to begin with (myself included), is Georgian and reached the second highest rank of Ozeki. He may have even become a Yokozuna himself had he not suffered an ACL tear earlier in his career. Other notable European rikishi include Gagamaru from Georgia, Aoiyama and Kotooshu (another Ozeki) from Bulgaria, Takanoyama, who had a very slim frame, from the Czech Republic and currently active in the top division of sumo you have Shishi and Aonishiki from Ukraine

      @zdr7420 I forgot to mention when I posted this comment is I have messed up ankles and I'm currently healing from a surgery on one of them. My tendons are messed up and I've broken my ankles multiple times on each side so if I wanted to do it I would suffer from broken ankles because of how many times I've injured them and my surgerys. I just can't do it tbh

    A lot of companies in Japan punish their employees if they don’t show up for work by charging them, and they obligate them to do over time without paying them over time hours . Is not the school- is the government themselves for allowing such companies to get away with this type of abuse- I do hope they star appreciating their employees and taking care of them.

    Best way to change it is to change the way schools operate. They indoctrinate the citizens into this mindset by having such strict and rigorous schooling

    • @dumplingyoo7014
      @dumplingyoo7014 Місяць тому

      It's a really long process. Few Japan's school has already closed due to the low birth rate. This mindset needs to be implanted as early as kindergarten, and it can only be seen in a medium to large city. What about someone who lives in the village or small city or an island?

    • @skystreem4860
      @skystreem4860 Місяць тому

      It’s less of a school issue and it’s more of the work culture because Japanese people can be pretty free spirited when not constrained by some of the overbearing work that they are subjected to that’s just my opinion based on what a Japanese friend of mine told me

    You neglect to explain wrestlers earn per basho/bout as well. This is a bonus on top of their salary, known as mochikyūkin. There are other forms that wrestler get their earnings as well. Please speak correctly on the sport. As a channel, you might want to explain the history and respect for sumo that it deserves instead.

      At 0:31 he mentions bonuses though. Also, this is a short. Not to put it too succinctly, but he just doesn't have the time to explain the history and respect for sumo in the length and breadth it deserves in such a format, so he explains as he can instead.

    Sumo wrestlers also get housing provided by the Sumo Stable they're part of, with high ranks either living in one of the single rooms at the stable or a nearby apartment. The high rank also includes the perk of the lower ranks effectively being the Stables service staff.
