    Mark Howden. Ecologist and philosopher. He clearly does not read the IPCC reports that he mentions, except of course the Summaruy BY Policymakers. Try AR6 Chapter 11 on Extreme Weather. Direct quotes [my capitals]: On floods: “LOW CONFIDENCE for observed changes in the magnitude or frequency of floods at the global scale.” On droughts: “There is medium confidence that since the 1950s some regions of the world have experienced a trend to more intense and longer droughts … but in some regions droughts have become less frequent, less intense, or shorter…”. Hurricanes/Tropical cyclones: ”There is LOW CONFIDENCE in observed long-term trends in hurricane intensity, frequency, and duration, and any observed trends in phenomena such as tornadoes and hail.” “Data corresponding to hurricanes that have directly impacted the United States since 1900 are considered to be reliable, and show NO TREND in the frequency of U.S. landfall events” “Data representing hurricane landfall frequency over Australia show a DECREASING TREND in eastern AUSTRALIA since the 1800s as well as in other parts of Australia since 1982.” Extra tropical storms [ie. major storms outside of the tropics].; “there is overall LOW CONFIDENCE in recent changes in the total number of storms over both hemispheres” “Overall, there is also LOW CONFIDENCE in past-century trends in the number and intensity of the strongest storms” So, not one iota of alarm or certainty that global warming is causing dramatic changes in weather events. The is however virtual certainty in “.. an increase in the number of warm days and nights and a decrease in the number of cold days and nights on the global scale since 1950.” That, in fact, is what Mark Howden focuses on, showing us the world has warmed in the past 140 years. And of course, that causes some ice to melt and sea levels to rise. But no demonstrated alarm. He gives cyclones as evidence, but this directly contradicts what the IPCC says (as quoted above). He mentions wild fires. US wildfire area has DECREASED by 80% since 1900 (although alarmists start the graph at 1980 since when there has been a smal increase). Annual climate-related deaths have DECREASED by 95% in the past 100 years. And if you take into account the 4x population increase, the annual risk of dying in extreme weather has DECREASED from 1-in-4,000 to 1-in-400,000. So Mark Howden does not understand the IPCC, the climate or science in general. He promotes the alarmism which gives him his nice well paid job and feeds his ego. And one simple fact, CO2 emissions will only continue to rise (mainly from Asia, but als from Africa as its people rise out of extreme poverty). So, we will pass the 1.5degC and WE ILL ALL DIE!!!!

    Let us hope, that this climate update is not buried as thoroughly and rapidly as our Government buried the 2021 State of the Environment report which contained much overlap with the messages conveyed here. Most important, was the environmental impact of on-going population growth, which our political leaders are determined to ignore. If we simultaneously address this issue and that of emissions, we might just achieve the sustainable future we seek. But the latter without the former will not be anywhere near enough.

  • @user-rj5kx8wr6y
    @user-rj5kx8wr6y 5 місяців тому

    It was consoling to discover someone at the ANU (the den of demographer, Liz Allen and her disturbing views on endless immigration-fed population growth that secure vastly more attention than they deserve) willing to discuss immigration and its environmental impact. But, the speaker did not go nearly far enough. This intense focus on emissions and climate change, as important as it is, ignores a fundamental fact: that, emissions or not, it is GROWTH that is the real environmental threat. The great driver of all environmental challenges (again, whether carbon is involved or not) is ever more people consuming more and more. These twin disasters happen to combine in Australia's economic system to produce the worst possible environmental outcomes. We deliberately import people via massive levels of immigration with the sole purpose of growing consumption. It is to this folly that our attention must be directed. Emissions mitigation is, as is made clear in this presentation, severely compromised by this population growth. But, even if we were, by some miracle, to rapidly transition to a zero emissions economy, our environment would continue its relentless decline because of the many other unfortunate -- and unavoidable -- consequences of GROWTH. Time for the ANU to step up and acknowledge this and end the nonsense perpetrated by some academic staff who seem to know little or nothing of the environmental ramifications of growth.

      @@trafferz the greening of parts of the planet might occur. I imagine that is speculative. But the changes induced are many and varied & there will be winners and losers. It is not humanities role to choose them. Moreover, there will be no greening on at least 78% of the Earth's that is water. The warming of these waters will have enormous consequences and, of what I know of these, none will be good. We dabble in the chain of life at great risk -- to ourselves and millions of species. All are adapted to the comparatively stable environment we have had for many thousands of years. We are now experiencing considerable and extraordinarily rapid, anthropogenic change. We should not wish it or pretend it is ok.

      @@user-rj5kx8wr6y co2 is currently around 400 ppm. the lowest historically has been 180 ppm, highest 4,000 ppm. there has been dramatic climate change in the geologic record. have a look at some of the graphs. not since 1868, but over millions of years. dramatic temperature changes have occurred; solar activity leading to rises in temperature, reductions in temperature due to volcanic activity and asteroid strikes. and co2 changes have always followed temperature changes, not led. and yes, the increases in co2 has always led to increased plant growth, both on land but especially in the oceans. we need open transparent dialogue, but unfortunately the voices which are amplified are those who receive funding. those who receive funding are those who will produce results which show climate catastrophe. there are many other scientific voices, but they are muted. Just like the capture we've seen in all other areas of the academy. don't get me wrong. i'm all for clean air, water, food sources, better energy sources, general care for the environment and animal life. but i don't see the captured climate alarmist (who buy oceanfront properties) properly identifying the problems, so there solutions are necessarily in the wrong direction.

    For some reason there is this unreasonable assumption that our climate is stable and has been for tens of thousands of years. This is a false assumption. The climate was warmer than present about 1000 years ago during the medieval warm period. General climate science community believes the warm period was only regional primarily based on flawed tree ring studies and other paleoclimate studies riddled with statistical flaws and assumptions. All assumptions used in future predictions are derived from CO2 based climate models that are highly inaccurate and have enormous errors at the 95% confidence level for predictions any longer than a few years into the future. The sun is currently exhibiting increases in solar activity that we have not observed in the past and earths magnetic field continues to weaken and has been weakening for the past 40+ years. We need to remove the CO2 goggles from climate science in order to be able to see what is really occurring with our climate. Please stop scaring our children with this ludicrous climate change crisis ideology. Coral reefs are more healthy now than they were 30 years ago. The coral reef monitor is based on false information - please stop the lies. All of the excess temperature anomalies on the global temperature chart is from heat island bias. If you remove the metropolitan stations from the average the temperature rise falls in line with the temperature rise that has been occurring since the end of the little ice age. Wildfires are actually much lower than diluting the early 20th century. Canadian wildfires this last year was from arson not global warming. The US had an extremely low impact fire season. This presentation is filled with unfounded assumptions, flawed data and studies that have been shown to be incorrectly analyzed. It’s unbelievable that these debunked myths are still being propagated.

    Were is the historical evidence that CO2 controls climate? Answer: Nowhere Co2 controling climate only exists in projections. Using a heavily adjusted 20th century graph to try and prove it is scientific fraud at its finest. So again: Where in the historical evidence can we find the periods were co2 clearly dominated temperatures? The only data that could have supported it is the Vostok database, of which Al Gore falsely claimed in his science fiction film it was evidence that Co2 controlled temperature, all while that exact database shows you that Co2 follows change in temperature by about 1000 years. It's hard to make people understand something, if their paycheck requires them not to understand it.

    You cannot fix stupid. Actually you can. Educate yourself on the fact that the climate is changing, always has, and always will given the hundreds of cycles that the earth goes through constantly. Humans pollute the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the soil we grow our food in which affects humans and every other creature on the planet, but it does not affect climate change. What's actually coming is far worse than what these idiots think and has nothing to do with humans.

    Here, let me decode this for you: "Climate" = the belief and trust in the establishment. "Climate change" = means, that the people's beliefs in the establishment are changing. "Halt/stop climate change" = to stop the degradation of the people's belief and trust in the establishment. "Reverse climate change" = to reverse the decline of people's belief and trust in the establishment. "CO2" = people. "Elevated CO2 output is driving climate change" = the dramatic increase in population is causing instability within the ability of the establishment to control the masses though trust/belief systems. "Reduce CO2 output" = reduce birthrates. They are speaking in code. This is STATECRAFT, that's the term for it. Modern statecraft. This is not a conspiracy theory. This is how the civilization you live in works. The ruling class use euphemisms out in the open and only they know how to decipher the messages, because if you'd do it covertly, there'd be leaks. This ensures, that if you are ousted, you can just call it a conspiracy theory and be safe from persecution. This has been going on for time immemorial. You can't do anything about this. Nobody can. The only thing to do, is decipher the warnings they give like in this video, and be sure to dodge the attacks on the population. Save yourself and your family, just like they are doing. Evil or not, you can't get rid of them, without destroying civilized society. Be safe. You're on your own.

More oil, gas and coal is needed to provide energy to the half of the world’s population who don’t have any energy. China are building 300 coal power plants, so whatever the west does won’t make any difference to CO2, it will just bankrupt their economies.

These paid for productions are right up there with the Salem witch climate crisis or don't fall off the earth flat earthers. You'd think being wrong 100% of the time would bring at least a pause , a question, But no....... Shame on you Oddly the cure for what ever flavor of todays climate crisis happens to be is always the same, more taxes , wealth redistribution and liberty lost

    In the 50s the consensus was of course the ice age was here. The consensus cure was to cover the poles In coal dust. "The evidence in support of these predictions [global cooling] has now begun to accumulate so massively that meteorologists are hard-pressed to keep up with it.” The Cooling World“A study release last month by two NOAA scientists that the amount of sunshine reaching the ground in the continental U.S. diminished by 1.3% between 1964 and 1972.” The Cooling World“Telltale signs are everywhere...the thickness of the pack ice...the southward migration of warmth-loving creatures like the armadillo...” Another Ice Age?“Since the 1940s the mean global temperature has dropped about 2.7 degrees.” Another Ice Age?“The threat of a new ice age must now stand alongside nuclear war as a likely source of wholesale death and misery for mankind,” The Ice Age Cometh!

    Most important information at the moment and nobody is sharing or commenting. Pathetic..... Tell everyone to start a garden, stop shopping, stop polluting, stop breeding, the more people the less resources to divide. We need to stop funding the rich, they pollute the most, they should go bankrupt and all that wealth would be distributed between people. Stop funding the rich, go vegan and start a garden. Plant also hemp and bamboo to absorb huge amounts of CO2 emissions.

    As someone who has worked in remote fire fighting in the Australian Alps, having spent time in fire towers, worked loading firebombers and flown in them. Is it possible to spot fires as they start. However, even from remote fire bombing bases such as Benambra where I worked it could take up to 45 minutes to get to some fires in that region. To think you could get a bombing aircraft to remote regions in 5 minutes is unfortunately ludicrous.

    It is what it is. We blew it and we knew it. Get ready for irreversible collapse folks but the earth will not lament our demise nor our species. Have a nice extinction ye all.
