If you want public transit haunting, you should check out the MAX train tunnel in Portland Oregon. In the tunnel that goes under the zoo, they had to undercut a cemetery to dig the tunnel. Oregon is wet, and they undermined a stable but porous area, and they would find coffins that had slipped further down and had fallen through the ceiling to the inner floor of the tunnel. Every precaution was taken, reportedly, to relocate the departed before excavation began, but there were those unaccounted for that they couldn't find. I was going to the zoo stop, as I was curious about the deepest transit station. On the way there (I had just left work at the Rose Garden, working a concert, so it was late, but I had the next day off and decided to just check it out real quick.)...The cars weren't very full, and there were only three other riders in the MAX car with me, but when we entered the tunnel, I was looking out the windows, and I counted at least seven reflections; sitting in seats, standing by the doors, or walking down the aisle. Nothing scary, they appeared as plain, calm commuters. I thought, "Doubled reflections?" Until I looked up and down the car and nobody was standing, or walking the aisle, but as soon as I checked the reflections, there they were. As soon as the train broke through the end of the tunnel, the only reflections were the reflections of the people sitting in the car. I had missed the zoo stop, so I had to get the next train headed the opposite direction, and I saw the extra reflections again. As I walked toward the door to disembark, the reflection of the standing person appeared to move to one side. I once again looked around, thinking it might be a Pepper's Ghost situation, but no. I reflexively said "Excuse me" to the reflection. There was nothing creepy about that whole experience. It just struck me as unusual. Side note: the zoo MAX stop is pretty neat; there are displays there regarding its status as the deepest transit stop in North America, a core sample mounted to the wall and such. Worth the time, I think.
