The inverse is true - it keeps the air cleaner by sealing it from uncontrolled sources of dust and contaminants. The sealant itself is also non-toxic and it doesn't outgas or enter into the airstream in any way.

Aeroseal Envelope Sealing (Aerobarrier) can be done on completed homes but there is more work involved than if integrated into the construction process initially. @@aeroseal I did reach out to my local sales team and really all I got was a quote which seems fair but no prep was mentioned. What would I need to do to prep well? I plan to remove the covers from my lights, remove my can lights, cover carpet…Can you post a checklist? I really want to hire this team (this is the local legit sales team for Aerobarrier) but I also want the product to be successful. My home is 2600 sq/ft, built in 2023. However, my local code is so outdated the builder isn’t even required to do a blower door test since insulation and air sealing are not the norm for this state. Like a pet name or the "Aeroseal Mobile PRO Trailer"? I'd have to ask the technicians if they have pet names for their trailers but I anticipate they often just refer to it as "the trailer" when using it.

Secondhand smoke can move through various different paths or, depending on the set up of the system, can be actively circulated via the HVAC system. However, if the problem is occurring because secondhand smoke is moving in and out through the ducts themselves, then absolutely. The Aeroseal sealant would seal those ducts and significantly reduce the secondhand smoke from moving throughout the apartment.

@@aeroseal Thank you for the reply. How can one tell the difference? What kind of tests need to be done to understand the difference? We have only 2 shared vents in the building (kitchen and bathroom) and 6 others are only supposed to be connected to my HVAC but still release smoke.

The landlord or apartment owners should have a good idea of how the HVAC is setup. If they confirm that the units are completely separated, yet the smell of smoke is more strongly circulated when the HVAC is running, it's more likely that it's leaking in through the leaky ductwork. However, the best way to find out one way or the other is to get a professional in there who can do their own tests to confirm.

​@@aeroseal I own the place and was told the units are separated by our local handyman of the condo. I don't know anything about HVACs. Would any HVAC expert be able to do the aero sealing? Also, they would only have access to my apartment so would that be enough for them to seal my ducts? If I am able to go this route, then I would be fine with sealing the common ducts permanently to avoid this issue because I'm assuming common ducts cannot get sealed? Also, most Aeroseal companies are refusing to work on/in apartments in DC. Any leads on that would be great!

Even if there are rodents in the ductwork, the nutritional value of Aeroseal is nonexistent and the texture would make for a poor nesting material. We have not heard of any concerns in this regard.

There are a few reasons but one of the best reasons to put an adequate amount of layflat through the clamp is to make certain that it's properly sealed and there aren't any seams on the edge that may leak. Overall, it's just very important to make sure that the system is well-sealed.

The ductwork would have minimal (if any) residual particles left behind after the system is turned off and no longer pressurized. I have had my home sealed, so I can assure you it does not coat the duct work...

Yes, Aeroseal can seal leaks up to 5/8" of an inch but anything bigger than that will need to be manually sealed, but 5/8" of an inch should be caught rather quickly by the HVAC installer.

The sealant stays tacky/malleable to keep it from cracking or breaking overtime. Once the sealing is done it can be considered "dried". I hope that clears up a bit of the confusion.

Hi Christian! Generally speaking, whole home humidification is added on the supply side of the HVAC system. When installed in that manner, the humidity level on the return side will not be such that it is a concern with your wood joist bays. If an HVAC professional is suggesting it on the return side, they would most likely recommend sheet metal return ducts for the reason you mention. This is our opinion, of course, without seeing your specific home and really having all of the information necessary to know the best solution. @Baise Duezcke asbestos tiles are also hard, that doesn’t mean you add them to your hvac system. I love the idea of filing leaky holes, but does the company actually understand what the long term consequences could be for the patrons who add it to their source of fresh air?

If there are any access points you can reach it can still be sealed. This training was just done with a unfinished basement as an example. We have partners that seal through registers at times. Something worth discussing with one our representatives.
