The Durango & Hudson runs a fleet of RDCs for overflow passenger traffic
We also run them when we don't have time to assemble a proper passenger train 🚂.

Upgrading 40 year old HO Athern SW9
Переглядів 1092 місяці тому
Picking up derelict locomotives (G, HO or N scale) and bringing them back better than original is a bit of a passion.....the D&H shops have worked that magic on more than 50 locomotives. So when this SW9 needed help, we were there!

Durango and Hudson May 2024 .....just some running!
Переглядів 683 місяці тому
The D&H is all about motion....running 9 run simultaneous is currently the limit, but plans are to increase that to 11. In this video, HO CNJ #1527, a Proto GP7 with Bitching Bright lighting, runs a freight along with Racoon Valley #41, an Atlas Baldwin DS4-4-1000 with a local. The HO Drake Street line is serviced by a Bachmann PCC (outfitted with supercapacitor for smooth operation), The HO Bu...

NYSW #4002 rides again! .

This is an old Walthers unit picked up recently for under $20 at the train show in Clark NJ. Excellent HO locomotive after cleaning, lube and adjustment of drive axel joints. After that, I replaced the original PCB with an old NCE DCC decoder, and bonded SMT LEDs to the head and rear lights using Bitching Bright (R) technology. #4002 joins sister #4008 (Atlas/Kato) on the Durango & Hudson roster.
Snow Bound on the D&H

Wintery snowbound day up in the mountains, so we pull out ex-NYC Rotary Snow Blower to clear the tracks. Also, opportunity share some recent additions from the PJ Mattson's Raccoon Valley and Dave Skinner's KASE model collections. In addition, another Bitching Bright light application on a kitbashed Doodlebug that PJ had started.
MP54 rebuild
Переглядів 1397 місяців тому
Revival of an unusual model of the MP54 electric commuter railcar - this one of parts from unknown manufactures....basswood top, stamped metal sides, wood frame with many wood and metal details. Powered Tenshodo trucks, my guess early 1980's or prior. A little MP54 history (first into service in 1908) and then discussion of tear down and repair, along with videos of this running on the Durango ...
KATO Steeplecab
Переглядів 2148 місяців тому
Kato lives up to their reputation with the N-Scale Steeple Cab from the Pocket Line Series. With a coreless motor and efficient all wheel power, the unit runs incredibly well. While the unit is "no frills" at a ~$35 price point, adding SMD headlights and in cab personnel, along with repainting to D&H colors will bring the locomotive up to par.

Houston Area Live Steamers is devoted to live steam modeling. Although best known for model trains large enough to ride, there is a significant G-Scale operation which we highlight in this segment. Check my other video for the rest of the HAL operation. And thanks to the great folks at HAL.

Boinnnnnngggg!! Model trains do it for me 😂
I would buy some of these locomotives, but not LTEX style
Nice video Frank!
Nice frank, Any video of bill trueheart.
How did you open that headlight cab??
I just pried the two halves of the headlamp housing apart on the horizontal. The old bulb can be removed and replaced with an LED (I used 5mm). When you open up the boiler cavity, you have access to the other end of the wires. I tie the lamp to the battery on/off switch (via a ~ 500 ohm resistor) to give me indication that the battery power is applied. The RC switch only controls power to the motor itself. Let me know how it works for you.
@@treksntracks thank you, very appreciated it, it works now, just need a tip for if it burns out
Mesmerizing and beautiful work
Awesome. I like trains. My question is Do any of these freight trains still have cabooses when they enter and exit the trainyard?
Greta is having a ball!
Carl has a brilliant layout doesn't he? He is a scenery and detail master!
railroads recycle your shit------10-4
That is nothing compared to Donkey Creek Wyoming!
Glad u were able to have a little 🚄 fun with all the work you did.😅
I guess the genset concept wasn't a success? There seems to be quite a number of them in the yard.
Nice video. Thanks 😃
One raison is because coal power plant drop, here is western canada cn cpkc did same but small scale plus don't hunter harrisson is railroad systems change a lot.what you see here is sad about railroad could change so fast plus covid-19.
Is there any security or i can explore?
Yo BNSF gimmie
A time to work a time to sleep a time pull and to push a time be in museums....to make young child to be inspired....
Where is that locomotive park
37th street and Harborside
Lol...
Somehow I went from trains to the Bernetto family?? Never saw Uncle Jack with dark hair and Jeanette and Carol as kids!! What a stroll down memory lane. THANKS
Wow Q1 was busy!! Love the addition of the water and the Beautiful Village. it's amazing how a coat of paint and some lights can transform an old to new. Keep on tracking!!😁
Nice video
Nice video. Bill will be missed
I really like the way you narrated the video! Very nice!
Love the locomotives still in Santa Fe paint. BNSF should have a few fresh painted Santa Fe and BN locomotives out on the mainline.
I believe I saw this firsthand back in the mid 90s during an open house. It was very detailed even back then. Thanks for sharing.
great layout! would visit
That's quite an interesting place. I also liked the railroad museum and that seafood place where we bought the shrimp! I'm not sure why this popped up on my UA-cam feed 6 months later!
What a mess.
Nice job on 2735!!!
What an amazing layout. It certainly is an inspiration. Thankyou for the video.
Sorry set my comment before I meant to. But they were packing up all of these General Electric locomotives that were written off being put on ships packed very very carefully to be sent to China. With what the labor rate in China is they can rebuild 10 of those locomotives for the price of a brand new one. I like to see things being used to their full potential we should not have any scrap trains sitting around that's like burning a pile of money.
I remember there's an article and trains magazine
Another great layout! Thanks for posting.
Great commentary but I hear a familiar voice in the background!!! Lol
Incredible, thanks!
I'm generally pleased with the performance of the drones.
Nice work, Frank and Chris! Fun Videos are getting better and better!!
Nice video Frank. I’ve always wanted to play around with drones - you make it look easy!
I wired those genset units...
Very good
I built a lot of those structures good to see the layout again
You put a lot of work into those, love the details. Do you still build at home?
The overwhelming presence of wide cabs is unsettling
They may be on the chonky side, but do you have to describe them like that? They may be very size conscious about their zaftig figures.
Can I have the EMD Santa Fe GP 30 ???
Sure just come on down and drive it away.😃😎🤩
They look terrible
Well yea, sitting in the yard for years resting and getting scrapped soon. You would think they would be in bad condition.
OMG! 😢😢😢😢😢😢
Nice. What is the radius of the helix?
All I see is a horrible waste of money. How can you let such expensive pieces of capital rot? It's like taking a pile of millions of dollars and setting them on fire. Locomotives with the proper maintenance last damn near forever. Such a pathetic waste. This country is so wasteful and unappreciative. In poor countries they run outdated rail equipment by our standards but they are up and running. All these locomotives will probably be scrapped and used for tax write-off. Then it will be like they never existed.
These locomotives are only of value in parts or scrap metal. Sure some shortline or industrial railway may want them, but that's few that would save these locomotives for further operation. Locomotives are usually good for 15 years, until their lease expires and they're due for their next major rebuild. With the huge decline in coal demand many of these locomotives are having a date with the scrap yard. Sad as that is.
Those gensets didn't last too long.
