Welcome back to the channel everyone. I wanted to show you guys a new brew I've been working on in CEDH! I wanted to make something that can hang with the turbo decks in the meta right now and also something that grind the game out with big fatties, lots of cloning and a giant grip of cards. Thank you for watching! Decklist: www.moxfield.com/decks/gJtC6dWpqEaZALrHGhJibw

This is my favorite deck of all time! I love all the fun gameplay situations that come from the table reacting to my deck ending the game in a draw. The dynamic this deck creates is unlike any other. I've put lots of time, money and effort into this brew so any suggestions in the comments would be greatly appreciated! :) Decklist: www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/4072040#paper
One note with An Offer You Can’t Refuse. Target your own one mana cantrip. Double the wraiths. Then you get treasure tokens to play more one mana spells.
That's definitely something you can do but I personally wouldn't in most situations. You go down two cards for two treasures and a 3/3 wraith while also negating your cantrip. Almost always better to save the counter for an opponent's spell.
I come back to your Channel because of how nasty your treebeard build is. Excited for this one!
Appreciate the continued support!
And now we cant have mana crypt 😢
I'm very sad about it too. I miss playing with my jeweled lotus and mana crypt. :(
Long time fan here and someone who enjoys Wednesday Night Magic sessions with friends while he beats them down with Treebeard. Can’t wait to try this list out as well. Would love to see your cool lotr proxy deck btw. Keep up the great work and thank you.
That's awesome! I didn't know I had a long time fan. I appreciate the continuous support and I'll record a short for the poxy list as soon as it arrives. Let me know how it goes in your playgroup!
Would you still say this deck is CEDH viable?
I actually just went undefeated and won a local cEDH event here in my hometown with it! I play this deck regularly in cEDH! Check the decklist in the description for my most up to date additions. Stax is rough to say the least in cEDH right now but I have a blast playing this deck. It's my favorite deck of all time hands down!
Oh.. mystic reflection! Use that to turn your Tevesh tokens into docksides or BowMasters seems brutal. And also you have Tevesh and clones.. this could be a good home for Displacer Kitten.🤷♂️
Your interaction is on point. I’m not sure about Drown in the loch. And I think Sheoldred is 100% copium. I know there are people playing it but they won’t be in a couple months. It’s just not a cedh card. That my take at least. I guess we will see. I think the way you are trying to take this list, you should do like an Opus thief thing. Hell, then Sheoldred and drown in the lock start to look good. Add windfall, whispering madness and time twister. Add Notion thief. Maybe do bloodchief’s Acension. You can grind value, interact, and look to clone a bowmasters then cast a wheel or wheel then cast Mneumonic bet. Or end step Notion thief and main phase wheel. You already want to be a slower deck, you have the ability to clone Sheoldred, you play Talion. Killing people w straight up damage w this attrition based deck could be a thing. Talion, Sheoldred, clones, BowMasters, even Mean Bet?? This deck is aching for windfall. If you do that far you may as well go the rest of the way. Whispering madness is honestly a powerful card. Sometimes the ability to cast it every turn is straight up GAS.. like when you have a cloned BowMasters. I think you could absolutely have a unique and powerful deck just adding those wheels and another pay off or two. There’s plenty of fat could be trimmed here. Prob I’d start w the literal fatties. You have enough value engines w/out then and cutting them for wheels in a deck that is basically built to weaponize wheels I think would get you there. Great video👍 Namaste🖖
I definitely need to add windfall and bloodchief ascension. I would play twister if it wasn't so expensive. Notion thief these days isn't the greatest. I don't like a 4 mana guy that gets taken out by a stiff breeze. Thanks for the feedback and the love. Great suggestions!
I just came across this commander, and I love it. I'm building a few decks around this guy! I did a joke deck, a glass cannon style that's funny to pull out once every few nights. 97 lands, then you cascade into Mana Severance and Jace, Wielder of Mysteries. I found so many great lands while building that! Now I'm building a real deck, so this video came in handy. This gave me some great ideas to play with, thanks for sharing!
I Like him very much and built a weaker lotr deck around him. Looking forward to build a powerful deck. Du you think „Nuka Cola Mashine“ is a good addition to the deck, as it gives food and mana in form of treasures?
Great to hear! I tried it out for about a month and found it to be too slow for me. Having to pay 3 to get it out, 1 to activate it and 2 to sacrifice the food all for 3 life and a tapped treasure is a lot of investment. I prefer using the life gain spells to make Treebeard huge in combat after blocks than the slow food grind. It might be better for you being in a more casual, slower meta though!
kinnan would crush in the 99 ?
Yea actually! Check the deck list. I've made a lot of changes.
hey! i love the decklist! have you ever thought of putting Vilis in there? maybe i missed it if you do have it, but if you don’t, i would definitely make space for it as you’ll probably end up drawing around 15 cards off of it- plus you’re running sheoldred and K’rrik which can just go through your entire deck if you have all three while killing any creatures in the way
While Vilis is an excellent card, I personally feel it doesn't belong in the list. The commander already draws tons of cards and I'm paying lots of life on many other effects in the deck. The sheoldred and k'rrik are just solid mono black value pieces and will close the game out on their own without the need for another card. Lastly the big boy is a whooping 8 mana. I was trying to keep my cmc down for effects like bob and opening up the ability to cast multiple spells in the same turn to keep the engine flowing. The only times I could see it over performing would be with one of the reanimate type effects.
I used your deck as a template and hobbited it up a bit. I went 4-1 with it so far and the loss was because of a mental error. Holy smokes bro you make brilliant violence. That feeling of casting predators rapport for lethal or congregate on the token players deck after blockers are declared is an unrivaled one.
Yes! That's what made me fall head over heels in love with this deck. I love killing someone out of nowhere on turn 4-5 with some janky 10 cent common. You can't beat the feeling. My playgroup wants to ban me from playing this commander because of how much they hate it! XD
@@johnnycomboplayer oh man the groans from the boys when ya say “I’m playing Treebeard”. It’s my favorite symphony at this point lol. But I agree completely! “Common doesn’t mean it’s a bad card” and decks like this showcase this truth better than most. Good luck to you man and I hope you never lose a game with this batch of nasty!
I had the game of my life with Treebeard today. I was playing jodah the unifier and two others at a high power table. I got down to 6 life and had the one ring protection for a turn. Jodah ko’d the other two. I top decked the board wipe that kills creatures without counters. He rebounded with three creatures next turn and he tried to exile it but forgot about the ward 2 and couldn’t pay it. guess what happened to my 6/11 Treebeard. Blockers were declared and he didn’t use any. Predators rapport, plus rhox double life, making him a 40/40. LONG LIVE FANGORN!
Not sure why this is recommended but being a combo player is kind of a joke when WotC routinely prints two and even three-card combos on a single card. LOL!
yes...high power "casual" 🤨lol
Yea price alone isn't casual 😅
I was looking for something casual, but 3k average aint casual :c
Yea lol, this is a fringe cEDH deck. Definitely not casual with all the fast mana.
hey are you going to upgrade this list or do u have an updated version? cheers
The only two cards that I could see adding from the new sets would be the trumpeting carnosaur and the green red mole god. They're worth thinking about but I don't think that my list would play either. Needless to say my list hasn't changed lol.
@@johnnycomboplayer haha, cool. keep this deck going with updates! its my fav deck and i always have it around :D just not the time to keep up with all the new stuff thats releasing.
What an amazing decktech!!! Loved it Unfortuneately i allready spent a lot of money for my Sythisdeck (it‘s a turboinfinite version) and i was thinking of Building for fun a voltron variant- what do you think?
Sythis is a crazy voltron deck! You get a cheap commander that draws cards for doing what your deck wants to be doing. You get access to some really fast K.O's with Ancestral mask, Ethereal Armor and All that glitters. Enchantments are the real deal. They dodge removal from 3 of the 5 colors. I know you'd have tons of success on a budget or not.
@@johnnycomboplayer ok nice!! Do you have a list perhaps?
I came across maelstrom wanderer when building a jodah, the unifier deck and for some reason I fell in love with it. Such a cool card, eventhough it's so simple. Really cool deck and a fantastic video presentation of it!
Glad you enjoy it!
First off, amazing deck tech and I’m looking forward to future content from your channel. Earned a sub for sure. With that being said, would Kutzil, Malamet Exemplar be a good add into this deck? If so, what you take out for it?
Thank you so much! Yeah I was actually planning on play testing it soon. I think the cut is grand abolisher. I'll be updating Moxfield with a more updated version of the deck soon!
I've been using this Jin with clone effects that can copy an enchantment. Play a copy enchantment as a copy of the great synthesis and draw a ton of cards, proliferate but don't choose to proliferate the original. Only proliferate the copy until the third chapter happens. When the clone great synthesis resolves, it can't transform, so it goes back down as a clone... Of the great synthesis and start all over again. Been having a lot of success with it.
Is that how that works for sure? I would think it just fizzles and the clone disappears bcuz it cant resolve what the text says
Like it exiles to transform but cant transform so wouldnt it just stay exiled?
@@itsKyrex actually after rereading it, the saga never mentions transforming just exiling and coming back down. I do this combo on magic arena a lot for Jin. You want the original to stay a saga as long as possible for the clones to have a great synthesis to copy and then proliferate the copies so they can drop back down as the saga on chapter 1.
@@williamkeiser7562 Ah i see, i just figured the text in brackets saying (front face up) was basically saying transform it, but i guess it just ignores that text and exiles itself then comes back down as a clone again?
@@itsKyrex pretty much. It comes back down as a clone. I first found the combo when actually playing a surgical metamorph on my opponent's urabrask saga in my venser poison proliferate brawl deck.
Nice video. I'd like to hear more insight into playing the deck. For instance, how do you change your strategy when you're up against a blue deck with counterspells ready for Ghalta?
In the case of a blue player with counter mana. Cards like allosaurus shepherd, cavern of souls and veil of summer would be good cards to invest in. If you can’t afford those than play around their counters. Slow your game plan down. Play things that you don’t think they would counter in your hand so you can keep tempo with the table. Or you can play things to bait their counters before ghalta. You just have to decide whether it’s better to force the issue or let one of your opponents force the counter out. Hope this helps!
Just for this video, we shoulda had Timmy in the intro
Good stuff, I love Ghalta. It's my childhood MTG dream come true.
I do like the infinite mana stuff. That part seems legit. Have you considered Dream Halls? Seems like maybe it would be a thing to try?? Idk. Dockside + temur Foodchain combo Hullbreaker horror That’s prob good. Cut that Chonky mana ramp and add interaction and I think you may have a deck. Don’t worry too much about ramping into the commander to cast it fair, find your infinite combos and if the game goes real long then cast Wanderer. Displacer kitten seems good but maybe the deadeye navigator is a bridge too far 👍 cool video
Dream halls is really risky and I've seen it tried before. It didn't work out for the Maelstrom deck in any of the cases. The goal for Maelstrom decks is to execute your game plan above all else. If you're interacting with the other players instead of progressing than you'll most likely lose the game. You're interaction is for the stax that shuts you down, such as rule of law and drannith. With this deck, trying to win second has always been the best strategy. Most of the interaction has been spent and the explosive ramp gets you into a turn 4-5 Maelstrom to win the game. He's by no means tier 1 obviously but he can hang with the best and win those slow grindy games as well. I'd liken him to Edric. A midrange deck that wins through extra turns and combos.
I have often wondered if this commander could be made cEdh viable. I haven’t actually tried to build a list. No offense but I highly doubt it would run Kodama’s reach let alone skyshroud claim. 😬. I mean maybe .. maybe the two mana land ramp spells but even that seems kinda meh. I just don’t see what you’re gonna do against the faster decks trying to win turn 2 or 3 and I don’t know how you’ll compete w the midrange card quality piles. Not really sure you’ve got “the build” here but maybe just keep workin at it and play it against cedh decks (I’m not talking about Krenko or whatever) “real” cedh decks. That’ll teach you what you can and can’t get away with quickly. If I put a list together I’ll drop a link here. 🖖nice video
I appreciate the good criticism and the support!
Fwiw, Skyshroud Claim is *much* better than Kodama's Reach, but in an Opposition Agent world, I have opted to cut the land ramp package in my build. Tbh, of you sit in a Pod that's like, Rog/Si, Dihada, Ob Nixilis or something, you are fully boned. You can't beat triple turbo outside of a god draw plus good seating. My version of Maelstrom has put up several t2 wins over the years, but I would be lying if I said it were a viable strategy to hope to race true turbo decks (especially ones like Rog/Si that can pack interaction). In terms of midrange, this is actually where the deck shines. Bc those pods come down to card quality, and while most decks in the format embrace mana-efficiency when they think of quality, Maelstrom Wanderer packs so much high-end punch that we can out quality decks once our mana is established. This applies to stax decks, too. Stax decks can be brutal bc Wanderer is hit by *every* possible stax effect, but a la Kinnan, even when we're shut off from our main plan, we can always windmill slam the fattest threat at the table and say "deal with it". Again, though, in reality, are we favored in a midrange game vs Tymna/Kraum or Sisay? Absolutely not. Wanderer is not a tier 1 deck, simply a deck that can snag more wins with a dedicated pilot than the casual observer may expect. This is not pushing to be the new meta buster, but it is still overlooked. I also personally have tailored my version to pack a little more interaction at the cost of potentially weak cascades. The deck can draw a ton of cards, and since we aren't trying to play table police, when you're running FoW, FoN, MBT, Drain, Pyroblast, Red Blast, and GE Archmage, it's not unfeasible to have an "oh sh!t" counter when you need it. No, GE A is not gonna help vs an early combo turn, that's more of a "protect our stack" type of card, but the Blasts are nice, and are still strong cascades (typically, albeit obviously still at an opportunity cost vs our true bombs). I also think that cutting the Swat-able turn spells is a must. We can't reliably protect our spells on first Wanderer cast, and not just losing our Time Walks, but giving them to someone else is an auto-loss.
To expand upon the midrange point, the reason Wanderer can survive in those pods is specifically because it's not the threat. The way to hold MW down is to attack its mana, but that's not typically going to give the best EV to a midrange player's interaction spell. So this is using the fact that Wanderer is clearly not the best deck to siphon wins. As a Maelstrom pilot, one has to admit going in that they aren't on the best deck, just the deck the pilot likes to play the most. But bc of the high end stopping power, once the deck has the mana online, it should be viewed in a much different light than when the pod is shuffling and considering mulligans. The knock against Wanderer is the ability to get to the point where it's on even footing, but if, as a pilot, by verbal skill, play skill, or luck, you can get to that point, you know your win lines better than the rest of the table and can often convert a toss-up by using a combination of the unknown brew factor as well as the density of haymakers.
I can't wait to build a deck around Treebeard. It's gonna be so much fun! 😊
good video this is my favorite commander thank you, new subscriber
Awesome, thank you!
Thanks a lot for this list and the video, I build a budget list around this, and it works pretty well. I included some protection effects instead of hexproof and I think they will work better. Gods Willing, Blessed Breath, Emerge Unscathed
That's great! Treebeard is an amazing choice for budget. All the most important cards for the deck are really cheap! I'd watch out for those protection effects though. There might be some situations where you can't target Treebeard with his own ability or spells if you give him pro white or green!
Do you think this cedh viable??
It definitely could be! It has all the tools; it's all about finding the perfect moment to win.
Sigarda Host of Herons is also very very powerful in Selesnya colors. She has evasion, hexproof and ensures that sacrifice mechanics can't get rid of your commander. Personally I am running Light Paws (for Enchantment Voltron) and the new Kellan Fae-Blooded (as Equipment Voltron).
Those are all excellent choices for commanders. I just personally have an affinity towards Treebeard. I'm a huge LOTR fan and I love being able to kill people with otherwise trash 10 cent commons. First time opponents never expect it and that's what I love about the deck.
I mean treebeard is a good Voltron commander but I'd say thrun (either version) is better cause of the built in protection. He's super easy to buff whichever version you go with too cause he's in green.
Thrun is also a very good option no doubt. I love the addition of white and the life gain voltron dynamic that Treebeard provides. Most players struggle when playing against the deck because of the explosiveness and the fact that Treebeard has ward 2 and trample. Killing an opponent and bolstering your life total is so powerful in commander and gives you the ability to take out the other two opponents.
what's this deck's plan against meta decks like rogsi which present a win on turn 1 or 2?
Maelstrom has been power crept in many ways over the years. Since the deck runs little interaction your best bet is to rely on other players to stop the win.
nice video and nice decktech man! new subscriber <3
Really appreciate it. Thanks!
I like Treasonous Ogre a lot for ramp, trading life for mana is great. Seagate Restoration along with Turntimber Symbiosis as early game lands but nice fat 7 mana spells when cascaded into. A new tech I put in recently was Bramble Familiar, it's mana ramp early or a 7 mana sorcery that will most likely get you a big creature when you cascade into it. Decklist if your interested for any other possible tech: moxfield decks YyqDmifeUUeV915nUcM_Mw can't post direct link as post will get deleted.
Interesting ideas there for sure. Treasonous ogre is a little too risky for my taste; especially when I'm in green. I'd thought about running the MDFCs but wasn't sure since they're not that great to cascade into (turntimber being slightly better). On face value alone, the bramble familiar does't look great to me. Either side is pretty meh but your milage may vary. I'll definitely check out the list. Appreciate the suggestions!
@@johnnycomboplayer Bramble Familiar has been pretty good so far. It sucks cascading into little mana dorks but you have to have them. The Familiar just gives a lot better cascade result after you have already established your mana ramp to get Wanderer out and are looking more for big payoffs than more ramp. I have a lot of 1 and 2 drop ramp creatures as I really like to have Gaea's Cradle tap for multiple mana early so I'm always on the lookout for nice mana dork tech. Fiery Emancipation has also won me a ton of games by cascading into it and one shotting people with Wanderer.
I like your reasoning. I just feel the sovereign, while doing both things you want to do, doesn't do either of them well. I love fiery emancipation. It broke my heart when I cut it from the deck. I ran it for years. To be honest though, I haven't missed it in the deck. Triple red is rough when you have to cast it and most of the time it was overkill for me.@@cameronwells82
I fully agree with Seagate Restoration being fantastic. However, I actually don't like Turntimber Symbiosis. I would rather it be a land so I don't waste a cascade on that effect.
@@SenorCoupon With my list Turntimber is almost a guaranteed big fat 6-7 mana creature so it's a worthy cascade hit for me.
I try to avoid running the small creature ramp when I have things like Selvala's Stampede.. or do you just feel they are too necessary?
I started out by not running them for years. The deck definitely preformed and the chances of hitting something big were higher. I've found though, throughout the years I played the deck, that the small creatures were imperative to cast Maelstrom on turn 2-3 more often. The small downside with selvala's stampede is usually overshadowed by the speed and power that the dorks give you. Most of the time you'll get your value from the free votes themselves. So I wouldn't sweat hitting an arbor elf every once in a while.
@@johnnycomboplayer gotchya, i always ran more sweepers in my builds as well. I don't play a ton of edh but im putting maelstrom back together closer to this build to try out!!
Let me know if you have any success. It's very explosive and proactive. Definitely more about achieving your game plan over stopping others from achieving theirs.
jace never lives that long or the game doesnt last that long haha
I suppose that's true lol.
It has killed me so many times lol
I have a Hyper budget(Under 30 bucks) version of this deck, and it wins through drawing the deck out and countering everything. It wins 3 of every 4 games I play with it.
That's awesome man. Totally can be done and I'm impressed that it performs so well with a small budget!
Can you share the decklist pls? 😊
Decklist should be in the comments. :)@@elgatomaton3000
Do you have a deck list to share?
Would you be willing to post the deck here good sir?
The link won't open :/
It worked :)
Here's the decklist for anyone interested: www.moxfield.com/decks/9LQpL0-jSU65_WQ3SBkdqg
The gimmick is interesting: Suggestion Solemnity will save you some slots for Divine Intervention.
i made somethi g like it but like 80% of what hes using i dont use , i made Zul, curses nonland replicate maximum mill
I'm sorry but I missed this: What's the wincon/ winline here?
There is no win-con. The whole point is the make people salty by ending the game in a tie with divine intervention.
Great deck, great tutorial
Hey, I'm 80% of the way through building this Just a few questions if you have the time... What's a good replacement for the Mox Diamond? Are Reflecting Pool, Lotus petal (I see you removed it in your latest list) or Mox Amber decent enough? Also is there any reason you aren't playing diplomatic immunity or Shielded by faith to keep Zur alive? Or the Decree of Silence/Solemnity combo for another way of shutting down the game?
Lotus petal is probably best replacement for mox diamond. I would avoid mox amber at all costs, it's unreliable at best. I choose not to run those because your first tutors are crucial to develop card draw or removal. Spending a turn to protect Zur I've found is too slow. The counterspells do a good enough job at protecting Zur. As for Decree + Solemnity; I don't run decree because it's way too much mana. If I'm casting an 8 mana enchantment, might as well be the divine intervention. I don't want to run solemnity because it's a nonbow with divine intervention. Hope this was helpful!
@@johnnycomboplayer Fantastic! Thanks for the great answer 😊
Hey I really want to put this deck together. But I can't really afford the dual lands or the Mox Diamond. Could you reccomend me some swaps for these cards? Would any of these be good...? Shipwreck marsh Shattered sanctum Deserted beach Clearwater pathway// Brightclimb Pathway// Henegate Pathway// Raffine's Tower Thanks
I cut prismatic vista for raffine's tower definitely a solid upgrade. I'd avoid pathways in three color and up decks because they only tap for one color. The pain lands would be a good choice to slot in or the innistrad slow lands you mentioned previously would do the trick.
Interesting deck, surprising you are not playing solemnity, shuts off you divine intervention to even have counters to start, and shuts off any kind of proliferate/counters your opponents would have. Would definitly include
It's a 2 card combo with the intervention and also with decree of silence to counter everything your opps plays, get this out and everybody scoops
Solemnity doesn't work with divine intervention. The last counter has to be removed from divine intervention for the trigger to go on the stack to draw the game. With solemnity out, it would enter with no counters so nothing would happen.
I love the deck, so much that I bought it lol. I would love to see gameplay of you using the deck in a real situation so I could see how you interact with it!
Thank you for the high praise! I would love to make that happen sometime when I get the equipment.
Damn i like to see beautiful decks like yours!!! Plz do more decktecks like this!
Thank you for the feedback! I will try, it takes a lot to foil a deck these days.
Even consider island sanctuary to replace propoganda?
I used to run that but it turned out to be too clunky and not as proactive as the propaganda. It's also not blue so i can't pitch it to force of will/negation. Appreciate the suggestion though. :)
Hell yeah you are archenemy!!! Haha awesome deck tech, bro 😄😁😊
