Newcastle Flyer 2023
On 24/06/2024, 3801 once again ran the Newcastle Flyer from Sydney to Newcastle and return. This year I was fortunate to be able to do the trip in the Lounge car at the end of the train, affording some unique views of the line. This is the highlights from the trip, including the departure from Hornsby station in the morning, running through Mullet Creek, and of course crossing the magnificent Hawkesbury River Bridge in both directions.

Zig Zag Railway Returns!

The highlight of Steamfest 2023 was The Great Train Race! A four way parallel run from Newcastle to Maitland featuring Steam locomotives 3801, 6029, 5917 & R766. My footage comes from onboard 6029's train. Shot on iPhone 14 Pro Max using a FeiyuTech Scorp Mini gimbal and a Shure MV88 External microphone.

Sunday 30th April 2023 saw Day 2 of the Burton Automotive Hunter Valley Steamfest in Maitland NSW. This video shows my footage from the afternoon on Day 2. On Saturday 29th April 2023, the Burton Automotive Hunter Valley Steamfest kicked off in Maitland NSW after a 3 year hiatus. This is my footage from the Severn Valley Railway's Steam in Lights on December 23rd 2022. The trip goes from Bridgnorth to Hampton Loade and return. We had a wonderful night out on the train and the whole experience was very well put together!

This is my footage from the Dartmouth Steam Railway's Train in Lights on December 19th 2022. The trip goes from Paignton to Kingswear and return. Unfortunately on the night we were there it was raining heavily and quite windy, so sorry for the wind noise.
3801 on the Newcastle Flyer 2022

On October 15th and 16th, 2022, Transport Heritage NSW operated a steam special recreating the famed Newcastle Flyer. To do this, locomotive 3801 hauled a train of passengers from Sydney to Newcastle and back at speed and unassisted each day. This video includes my footage from onboard the Flyer on Saturday 15th, as well as a clip from Wondabyne Station on Sunday 16th. Filmed on iPhone 12 Pro Max.

This video is 10 minutes of uncut footage as 3801, sounding incredible, works hard to haul its train up Cowan Bank. On June 25 & 26, the annual Thirlmere Festival of Steam returned! This video shows my footage of the 5 steam locos hauling trains on the day, along with a demonstration from the Steam Coal Grab. Steam Locomotive R766 Launch Weekend Picnic Trains

On March 19 & 20 2022, Former Victorian Railways Locomotive R766 was launched in New South Wales after a long restoration period, which included a gauge change. It is one of only a handful of mainline steam locomotives that have had a gauge change. As part of this launch it hauled the Picnic Train between Maitland and Singleton each day. Hawkesbury River Picnic Train 2021

On December 11 2021, 5917 and 4204 hauled The Picnic Train on shuttles from Gosford to Hawkesbury River station and back. This is my footage from on board shuttles 1 and 2, and then a clip of the 3rd shuttle of the day running through Point Clare Station.
Staverleigh N Gauge GWR Model Railway Layout

Staverleigh N Gauge Layout depicts a fictional Great Western Railway branch line terminus set in the South West during the late 1940s. Trains modelled are prototypical of the wider GWR network and liveries modelled range from 1906 - 1949. There are also the occasional out of region guests!

On Saturday March 13, 2021, Transport Heritage NSW and the NSW Rail Museum welcomed 3801 back to Sydneys rails after 14 years. The C38 class locomotive had been out of service for overhaul since 2007. On the other end of the train, the supporting loco was 42 Class diesel No. 4201. On July 5th 2020, the NSW Rail Museum at Thirlmere reopened following the COVID-19 closures. To mark the occasion the newly restored 3801 was steamed and opened for the public to visit the footplate. About three hours away from where I live in Tennessee (USA), there’s a theme park known as Dollywood. They have two genuine steam locomotives, and one of them (locomotive 192) is of the same class of locomotive as engine 218 (seen in this video).
What a mess. The colour of the engine should be black. The number is 218A not 218 and then there is the inappropriate bell which Queensland Railways engines NEVER had. I know you will delete this comment but what I say is true.
It’s because 218A was an American locomotive. The bell is supposed to be a callback to how it was built in America.
If anything, I think she looks a lot more striking in green, plus the bell is a lovely addition, helps round off the overall look of the locomotive.
