Flew in there in 2001 just before 9/11 and camped. Super high density altitude on the way out that day!

I was an 18 year-old E-3 during the winter of '68-'69. It made me question my life choices. Got sent to remote Alaska after Loring and it was not any colder, lol! "CE-8 to Loring tower, requesting permission to cross the active from the south run up to the glideslope area" This while driving the emergency power shop truck (65 B 9023) in 4 feet of snow. Exciting times for a young kid.

Yall are flying TOO LOW in residential areas. Id be selective if you want to remain in the air- Residents DO NOT APPRECIATE you invading our space or risking a crash . Wayyy too close to the trees, and if youre doing it for VIDEOS and LIKES then expect some resistance and attempts to legally end your joy rides OVER OUR HOMES

Records show that Caribou AFS is the weapons storage area they are standing in. It had its own barracks mess hall and when the 42nd BW took over the area Caribou was absorbed into Loring AFB and became known as the weapon storage area.

I was an SP there in 80-81, I was only there one year because being an ex-Navy Engineman I was told my time counted for going remote. So I went to Clear AFS the next year. I remember the WSA well. Loring was my first AFB. We called the A building the Vamp House.....

I was there 79-82. The vamp house was sealed up long before I got up there. Spent many nights as an entry controller.

A great collection of aircraft!

Seeing some of these WW2 engines apart or cutaways shows just how amazing and complex some of them were. All built amd designed in the 1940s or before by jand, no computers. The airplane museum in Sacramento has some awesome cutaway and disassembled engines in display. The ones with rotating vavles while having 12 cylinders or more and being radial (pratt and Whitney i believe it was) are mind boggling

I find the memorial, with the scrolling honour list particularly moving and extremely well placed on the arc walk. Oh and I just love the Jug strug from the rafters :D

I'm a member of the museum. I think people are always astonished at what the place holds, not just in the American Air Museum section. The fuselage of Rudolph Hess's Me 110, the mini-submarine in which the son of the Graf Spee's captain died, a section of the Tirpitz's armour and so on. The Concorde is the crowd puller of course, but my personal favourite in the B-29 in the AAM, as shown.

Good presentation of the Merlin engine. Anything to promote our aero engine heritage is what our HAE group strives to achieve.

I served at Korat airbase Thailand with a great guy from Michigan who spent some time at Loring. There were some great stories to go along with both bases. So Tim Mead, thanks for the memories my brother.
