      Nope - it's running under Windows. I would definitely like to see a linux version. From what I've found, the latest Mike said was, "I’ll revisit it when WINE implements with DirectX12 API."

    My station from 40 years ago used the same circuit, but the digital voltmeter used two ICs, One the ADC and another was the BCD to 7-segment decoder/demultiplexer. It was, and still is, an analogue device at its heart...

    Took my charger 5 to the pool for the first time ever about 3 weeks ago, first time ever. The pool isn't even 2m and I only swam surface level. When I got home the screen started blinking white. So yep, they are such a failure when it comes to water. Thankfully my warranty covered it and I got a refurbished one from them.

    I also had my fitbit charge 5 for 1 year 6 months. After this time period, I thought it would work in a pool. I found out after my short time in the water, that the watch died. I did everything to dry it out - Used a rice bag to dry it out with no luck for 2 days. I tried to charge it and no screen picture. After waiting several more days and caller the help center and listening to many videos on how to dry it out. I decided then to try to open it and dry it out. Not a good idea. It took several days to just try to open the screen and still didn't work at all. Now I just have a broken watch in pieces. You are correct. NEVER EVER PUT A FITBIT IN WATER. Yet I also read a fitbit life is about 2 years.

    Your assessment is 100 percent correct! Two fit bit charge 5 models in my family. Never been used for swimming. Both got wet when they were submerged in a foot of water for a few seconds. Both failed due to water entering the units. Thanks for the video. I am going to take apart the one that just failed and look inside.

    Some of the "crusty stuff" youre seeing is flux residue from the soldering process, which is normal, but I agree that the stuff not on a solder joint is likely corrosion. Here to say me too, mine just failed 2 weeks out of warranty. I've never taken it in a pool. Saw moisture in the little sensor windows after it started boot-looping. Other than that it was a great device in life. RIP.

    HSPICE came from MetaSoft. The founders are Hailey brothers (hence the letter "H"). Meta was acquired by Avanti, who later bought by Synopsys. Spectre was developed by Ken Kundert from Cadence. There are several other commercial circuit simulators in the market. But you are right, let's focus on the free and open source SPICE simulators for education and self-learning.

    I want something that runs unit tests in GoogleTest against a spice simulator. I have realized though that QSpice needs to be the thing that "invokes" the C++, but I would like it the other way around. I want GTest to be able to load my test fixture (whatever simulated hardware that looks like in spice) and connect it to my source code and run scripted simulations. So far I have not been able to find anything like what I want. Can this do that? Does QSpice have a command line interface?

    Same just happened to me it's about 10 months old I swam with it many times prior to this incident blindly believing that is water resistant however it leaked and now it's not working on the bottom sensor screen I can see a significant amount of water droplets so I would say a big amount of water got in how is that even possible i was in a shallow 4' deep pool. Anyway I was lucky it's still under warranty but once I get new one no more swimming with it quite disappointed about quality of it they claim it's water resistant it clearly isn't.

    What would need to change if the load resistance is much lower? For example, a speaker that is only 5 ohms. Great video!

    • @electronicswithemrys
      @electronicswithemrys 5 місяців тому

      I probably wouldn't use this particular circuit to drive a speaker because of how much power that would require. In theory, you could make Rc 5 ohms and use a really beefy transistor + heat sink. With 5 ohms at 15V, that's going to have to dissipate about 45 watts, and the transistor will be sinking 3A of current.

    I’ve also had the same happen to me in very similar circumstances. About to receive the 2nd replacement (within warranty). Was wondering if I can better the factory waterproofing in any way. Thanks for the help, I have also one quick question. I have a capacitor that is supposed to move my sine wave from 8V to 0V and it works pretty well on other simulations programs, but on Qspice it doesn't change anything at all. the capacitor value is 0.1uF, dont know if it could be that Qspice isn't used to small capacitor values.

    • @electronicswithemrys
      @electronicswithemrys 6 місяців тому

      Are you leaving the circuit open after the capacitor, or terminating with a load resistor? I expect your circuit is ambiguous (ie the other side of the cap is floating) and different simulators handle that situation differently. I'm sure Mike Engelhardt over on the QSpice forums can answer why exactly QSpice responds the way it does (and he probably also can tell you why other sims do it the other way) -- but a simple fix is to add a load resistor (from the capacitor to ground). Even 1 Gohm works.
