Thank you ma'am for this nice explanation. Through I am watching your video which is 4 years old , but truly speaking, the video is still valuable for lit students. I was worried for what I will write in my close reading part in my tomorrow paper. But I think after your explanation I will definitely be able to write something good in it. Once again thank you ❤
Candice, I am teaching theme right now and have been struggling to get kids to grasp how to structure their statements. They are usually fine with the main topic but it breaks down after that. This is the best thing I've seen or read so far and I can't wait to use it to help my kids that are struggling with this concept.
How to write the theme (8 minutes in a 5 second read) 1) read the book 2) Make a list of topics 3) Pick from that list a topics 4) write the sentence -use a sentence structice of the author/character/reader learns that 5) Get rid of the sentence structure 6) cry because you hate english
You said “When my class read the novel, “The Crucible” It is not a novel. It is a play.
Thank you for the video! I was just wondering how do we find connection, is that connection to the overall text?
Carter us a skibidi gyatt
Anyone in English class for this
okay but can we talk about how beautiful ur skin is and how youthful and healthy u look
can we get a video on ur skin routine, ur habits ?
Why did they have to make him a pedo in the movie tho😭
This is all wrong. Arthur Miller wasn’t a Christian, and The Crucible isn’t a defence of 'Christian values'. John Proctor signs the confession, which he already sees as giving up his ‘soul’. He only jibs, finally, at having it made public; he dies for stubbornness and pride, the same reasons he refuses to intervene earlier.
thank you so much for this video! i'm in a production of the crucible as john proctor, and this has helped me so much in my characterization of him!
Oh thats not.. in the sense that
It's not a novel...it's a play
Talk faster, no one got time to listen to you ramble for 20 minutes
Ew calm down
Thank you very much for the detailed explanation on how to think and writes a close up reading from a passage/text! Again, thank you!!!
John Proctor was my 10th Great Grandfather….
Such a blessing to hear. THANK YOU!
Miller's play (a great work) is BASED on the Salem Witch Trials of 1692. It's not intended as historical fact. The film is based on the play. Don't get what people are complaining about? Our teacher explained that to us.
Thank you so much 💓 very well explained 😊
YES your cat and mother will die, but it is NOT a NOVEL
well maybe, dont be so vague. Explain to the students what you just said. Dont get mad because people cant read your mind.
The top Nazis, which were Catholics and Jesuit operatives were never excommunicated from the church to this very day.
After the death of Otto Frank the Anne Frank Foundation finally came out and admitted that the Diaries were largely a work of fiction that were co-authored by Otto Frank. She was a child and did not have the writing skills that the book was finished in. Originally they were Diaries but towards the end of her life she said to her father that she wanted to turn it into a love novel.
What happened to the Jews and the other people were inquisitions. The Nazis were actually a revolutionary socialist Catholic theocracy masquerading as ultra-nationalists. Most of the Germans were Lutheran and Calvinists. The Vatican hated this and the assisted none to the hope witness the young twenty-nine-year-old Hitler getting direct orders to go and deal with the aesthetic Red Army as Heretics. In Austria there are a group called The Guelph group. Out of this the black nobility was born once the guelph's were split into the white and black guelphs. Dante was a white wealth that resented the overreach of the papacy.
And thanks to Richard McCarthy at APSI for these great ideas!
Packed full of insightful information! Thanks for the overview!
I dont think john proctor was a hero, he was a grown man grooming a child
Its a play
Hard to take this seriously when, in the opening statement, you call the play a "novel"!
Don't forget the many, many more millions that died in the Ukrainian Holodimor at the hands of the Communists. Including many Christians . I don't know why our public schools missed that. Joseph Stalin himself had executed 770,000 people . Even Alexander Solzhenitsyn the Russian dissident said it's a travesty that this history has been kept from many. The communist Mao murdered many more millions somewhere to the tune of 60 million. And now we have a socialist quasi Communist democratic party in America who have helped enshrine secularism as a religion in Washington. This country is in horrific shape.
Fire and Ice - biblical allusion
It was really great and it helped me a lot 😍😍 thank you so much🤍🤗
Great video! Thank you so much ❤ From Vietnam
Great video! It helped me understand the poem a bit more and made me realize how fun it can be to find out the meaning behind the poem!
As a educator, you should know this is a fictional story based on real people. John didn't even know Abigail in real life. John was a well respected man who lost his first two wives during childbirth. His third wife Elizabeth was accused first, when John spoke up in her defense, he was accused. The sheriff stole all of his possessions as they sat in jail in deplorable conditions. John was hung and Elizabeth was spared but only because she was pregnant at the time of the trials. She gave birth after the trials and named her son John. 18 people lost their father the day John was murdered. He did NOTHING to deserve what happened to him.
Yes, as a history and English teacher, I think it's important to state that the play is BASED on what happened (historical fiction), but what happened in the play is NOT the real history of what happened in the witch trials.
So helpful! I wish the google doc link still worked :-(

I love the link in with math signs.
Ty! I've been struggling with my summer reading project for English 2, this really helped me with theme statements!
What’s the biggest tip for a slow reader. Always run out of time on the ACT READING. HELP! Help! Thanks in advance..
Should I read the passage and then answer the questions? Or should I read while answering the questions?
you made me realize i’m not immortal...
I got 5/5💃💃💃💃
Fun fact: During Salem's witch trials, historical Abigail was 11 and Proctor was 60. Elizabeth, his 3rd wife, was 41. Miller changed those ages to create sexual tension and to spin out a "why" this all happened. In actuality, we don't know what feelings sparked the witch craze.
Wanting to get other people's property is what started this
suffocating religious hysteria
🔥🙏🏼I thank God I found your video. Amazing
God?
It's a great video, and it would be so useful for my students, but I wish she would avoid calling independent clauses - sentences.
John Proctor was my 9th Great Grandfather. Just found out the other day so of course I'm looking up everything I can about him.
That's Awesome!
wow that is incredible!
Thank you so much! Absolute life saver!
