This tribute channel to the late record collector from Maryland is in two parts:
1) Posts dated prior to November 2019 and showing original 78 label scans are primarily re-uploads of UA-cam videos which had previously been posted to my (former) MusicProf78 channel between December 2010 and April 2019. They include audio and/or images from Rick’s personal library and are also available on my more active 'The78Prof' channel.
2) The posts dated between November 2019 and March 2020 with the variably-colored images are from raw transfers which he had recorded directly to 'Music CD-R' from his own 78rpm discs (the labels were not scanned). No digital noise reduction procedures or EQ adjustments had then been performed on those particular selections.
For re-posts of the several thousand other videos formerly available on the MusicProf78 channel, see 'The78Prof' and ‘The45Prof’ channels. Thank you! Bob Moke

This works great for gorilla tag ghost trolling lolol
Someone i beg you add this on spotify
Wonderful!
Me When A Strange Flower Pot Goes C2:
So beautiful
Big mystery though - who played the instrumental version, with the saxophone solo, that frequently plays in the background in the officers' club in M*A*S*H.
I haven’t the faintest clue what any of these comments are referencing, but I just really love Paul Whiteman. A beautiful rendition of an Irving Berlin classic ❤
they are referencing monument mythos, a youtube horror series where history is fucked up, the statue of liberty holds alcatraz is a living cell that can mutate and do mitosis (it plays a big role in other seasons and story lines) rushmore is infected the washington monument holds a "special tree" the freedom statue cuts off peoples heads with a "giza glass" sword making them CANYONCROWNS. They are giant heads that use vinegar to shrink their heads back into their bodys, they were using in this universes war blimps "rockerfellers" in the diagram of a rockfeller, you can see outlines of canyon crowns meaning they are being used to make the blimps float. (CANYONCROWNS CANT FORM UNIONS)
@@awesome74eugene The Monument Mythos has been on my saved list forever. I guess I should watch it! Anyway, with its mournful, minor tone and throbbing rhythm, "How Deep Is the Ocean" is PERFECT for horror. I mean, it's a great song that sticks in your head, but it's also creepy both in the early-'30s sound and the obsessive lyrics. I love popular music from this era, but then I love horror movies, too, so it fits. 💀
@@stevewood7598I’ve heard countless versions of How Deep Is The Ocean and I’ve never gotten any hint of “horror” from it. It’s just a beautiful love song and one of Irving Berlin’s finest works, and Paul Whiteman did a wonderful rendition. In my opinion, the trope of using old music for the horror aesthetic is very tired and I think taints the perception people will have of great works like this.
@@awesome74eugene well… ok then… I mean I’m glad you found this great song either way. I hope it’ll encourage you to listen to more of these classic artists beyond just this. Paul Whiteman was one of the best jazz bandleaders of the 20s and early 30s
Makes me think of Lilly savage 😂
The vocal trio also seems to include Ed Kirkeby
"Math never existed."
This used to be synonymous with dementia Now It's synonymous with ha-ha funny blue-and-white mickey mouse
Very odd. I lookup Teddy Salters and I end up with Eddy Walters. How efdup is that?

This song is so familiar
This was the only big label release in the US of this notable hit tune. Columbia had Ben Pollack cut it with his new singer, Doris Robbins, but wouldn't issue it. Not sure Victor even went that far.
O allways feel like i was there at this time and that i know this music although i was born in 1970.does anyone eles feel this strange sensation?
Love that piano!
Best version ❤
I prefer the original 1920 for it's straightforward arrangement which was outdated by 1928.
The vocals sound very similar to Pat O'Malley!
With this we derive the dirigible 70
Pov: you wake up to this song. a sadistic, sociopath wearing nothing but some old clothes, a butchers apron, a bowler hat... and a half mask of the 1st modern serial killer wiping the blood off of his his scalpel
Excellent sound from Victor's first foray into high fidelity. I really enjoy those 24000 series records posted by the Prof.
Only a rose I give you. Only a song dying away, Only a smile to keep in memory Until we meet another day. Only a rose to whisper, Blushing as roses do, "I'll bring along a smile or a song for anyone" Only a rose for you.

Who's here in 2025? 👇
I put the new 4gs on the jeep
The sound engineer at the OKeh console turned down the bass on this one.
This is the best version of the song I've heard to date. I realize it's a very rare record. The orchestra is Adrian Schubert at his best. Paul Small did a nice job with the vocal. My second favorite is The Ipana Troubadours, but Schubert's Orchestra and his vocalist are better.
I’m glad the caretaker has introduced me to all these songs. Now I wish I was around when these were new

A favorite song. Thanks.
Lightest swingiest band of all time: and so neglected credited...... 3 1/2 stars....
I love this recording. I wish I could go back in time and live in 1932 for a while.
I strongly suspect that the trombone at 0:45 is future bandleader Will Bradley, who'd played with Noble's 1935-1936 orchestra that recorded for RCA. This session was done in New York, likely using studio musicians, and that was where Bradley was based at the time.
Me when D3:
Starting piano chord are truly a banger, as well as the rest of the song.
Prueba de sonido.
As a clarinetist and saxophonist, I really appreciate the solo and section playing on this side. I also really treasure my old 78 r.p.m. copy of this pairing ( which has, unfortunately, seen much better days ). Many thanks, from Richard Laine, in Canada.
Is this selection also, like ''Lulu'' on the other side, by Al Dubin and Harry Warren? I have the old record but I don't recall the composer info from the label. ( This record is also in much, much better shape than mine! ). I've very much enjoyed hearing both tunes for the first time in decades -- Thank You, Rick!!! Yours, Richard Laine.
Spooky dookie ahh song
This song is so beautiful and perfect for the fall season, it really deserves a place as being a song for Halloween equivalent in status to what winter wonderland is to Christmas
Thanks for posting. Never heard this one before but found a 78 I may want it now. sweet vocalist !
Fred cut so many great records from 1923 until he temporarily stopped in late 1932. Never heard this one until now. Fred outlived most of his 1920s era colleagues (died in 1984, age 84)
