We are Benedictine monks from rural Subiaco Abbey in Subiaco, Arkansas, USA. We were founded in 1878 by monks from St. Meinrad Archabbey in Indiana, and continue the 1,500 year-old monastic tradition as outlined by Saint Benedict of Norcia.
Subiaco Abbey-- Ancient Monasticism for the Modern World
Subiaco Abbey is a Benedictine monastery of men located in Subiaco, Arkansas, USA. Founded in 1878, the monks of Subiaco continue the 1,500 year old tradition of monasticism as introduced by Saint Benedict in the early 6th century in central Italy. Our goal is to seek God, grow in faith, and live the life of Christ and His disciples as a balance of Prayer and Work (Ora et Labora). In addition to the primary work of monks in undertaking daily private and communal prayer with chant, we monks also serve in our ministries of teaching and coaching (at our internationally famous Subiaco Academy); parish work as priests; brewing craft beers; harvesting and cutting wood in our sawmill; crafting wood for devotionals and cremation urns; candle, soap, calligraphy, and rosary production; growing grapes for wine and jelly; writing books; serving as international scholars in scripture and liturgy; retreat ministry through our Coury House Retreat Center; weekend priestly assistance to parishes; gardening with produce to use for our world famous Hot Sauce or Abbey Brittle; providing Spiritual Direction; ministry with our Benedictine Oblates scattered throughout the world; and, a prayer ministry outreach to the people of the world. If you are a single Catholic man between the ages of 18-45, then you might want to consider life as a monk. Feel free to contact our Vocation Director (Br. Raban-- brraban@subi.org) to chat or arrange a visit. For more information on how to become a monk, please visit our website at www. countrymonks.org.
