Dude thank you SO MUCH! This fixed my 2010 Mazda 6 2.5L INSTANTLY. I thought for sure stretched cable. It wouldn't go into park, would only start in neutral, and would pop out of drive or I would have to hold in down into drive. You saved me so much headache man, seriously thank you! I want to buy you a case of beer lol.

my shifter has a little trouble shifting out of park, seems like it could be getting caught on something. Do you think it could possibly be linked to the same issue?

This fix for the problem is spot on! I own a Mazda6 2011, and I had exactly the same problem. P indicator wouldn't show up on dashboard, therefore was unable to start. Had to shift to N, half of the time even the N wouldn't light up, had to wiggle it until it showed N on dashboard and was able to start. And the car would shift back when in P, so that I had to put the handbrakes on at all times. That connection between the shifter mechanism and the transmission was wildly rusted just as shown in this video. Since I didn't have screwdriver/grease/lube and it's 94 F outside, took it to the mechanic, and he fixed it just for labor charge $68, didn't have to replace parts. Now works perfectly fine. Thanks so much!!

100% fix for me. Wow. I drive with out the plastic sled, so as soon as you said corrosion i'm like yeaa this is it. i elected to just spray the shit out of it with WD-40, scrub with wire brush and repeat, worked like a charm. thx creator you are the real mvp

The D was flickering too? That changes everything, so my car bolts/jolts sometimes and my D usually disappears comes back on and I also have the problem my stick shift. So at one point I thought it was three different problems now I'm thinking maybe it was everything I've replaced the shifter and messed with the cable. But if your D is going off too it makes me wonder if it's the same thing. Maybe I need to keep working on the stick shifter. I came across a video that said it could be some kind of electrical connection in the stick shifter and that that is what needs to be cleaned off. Anyone experience this?

Yo ive never done anything for my car before by myself but ? Do you need something to stop the tires from rolling to replace the safety neutral switch im just kinda terrified that my car will just roll and fall and unalive me

Also mine gets stuck while changing from M to D.most times it slips into neutral instead of the M from D

I amhaving similar issues with this same model and colour. I was advised to change the 3 speed sensor located on the transmission, but this finally helped. Thank you

I know this video is old but maybe someone will see this and help shine some light on my issues. I just got a mazda 6 2006 that was my mom's old car. It sat for some time but it runs good. she told me that it started popping out of drive when she had it. kinda like your video talks about and what many in comments say. took it home she went threw all of the gear all the way to 6th. It started the whole not reading drive having to got to n back to d or half way to d for it to work. So I put it on a lift wire brushed the connection and put some grease on it. Still same issues no 6th gear and now check engine light is on. Tyranny don't slip nothing feels different I live in the sticks so 6th I don't need but me knowing something is off is killing me. If anyone sees this please help thanks in advance I'm thinking tcm why no 6th and maybe something near the actual shifter is worn out. But this is my first mazda and I'm pretty much lost on wth to do

Had this happen but while driving it threw itself into reverse at 40mph for a second and it did not handle it well.

The problem with my Mazda6 2013 is that as soon as you turn the car on and put it in D it does not appear on the screen and you can feel the car drive sluggish and rpms off the roof. You have to manually shift it from neutral to drive again for it to appear and fully function normal. Any help on how to get rid of this problem?

my issue isn’t going into park, my issue is when i’m in D sometimes the light will flicker and send the trans right into 3rd, if i hold the shifter in just the right position it’ll be just fine but if i let it be, it’s only a matter of time before it goes crazy….i’ve tried this method and it kinda worked but it only lasted a few weeks before it became an issue again … any ideas ????

I have this same exact model Mazda but my parking brake doesn't work(car will roll in park)/park light won't come in in park. I park my car with my e brake and start it in neutral. It drives perfectly fine otherwise. Anyone have any ideas?
