GTA San Andreas running on 1st generation Asus EEE PC
The EEE PC 900A was part of the first generation of Asus netbooks and the first EEE PC with an Atom processor. It was one of the earliest netbooks on the market and at 8.9" also one of the smallest, with later models usually being 10".
I picked this one up used for 15 EUR + shipping and wanted to try some older games on it. While GTA San Andreas doesn't run perfectly, it runs at a playable frame rate, which I honestly didn't expect given the low-end specs of the machine.
Specs:
Atom N270 @ 1.6 GHz
GMA 950
1 GB RAM
16 GB SSD
1024 x 600 8.9" LCD

$10 laptop running Debian 12 Bookworm

Running the latest version of Debian on a 15 year old Dell Latitude D420 I found for $10 (or 10 EUR to be more specific) in a local classifieds ad. Everything worked right out of the box except for the WiFi card, which required the installation of an additional firmware package. The main disadvantage of the D420 is the 32 bit CPU, which limits compatibility with some applications. But the lapto...

    I wouldn't expect the landing gear to have circular holes to distribute stress and reduce weight in a machine that was designed to travel across space. I would expect the shape of the holes to be optimized similar to as done using finite element analysis. Circular holes to distribute stress while multifunctional for other applications besides landing legs are more like a human thing to me. Basically just a product of mass production with insufficient time and resources to tailor the design to its use. Great video though. Loved it.

    • @dusanlamos
      @dusanlamos 2 роки тому

      Yes, I also thought that the landing gear might look a bit too low-tech. On the other hand, the UFO itself (which is based on photographs of a supposed UFO sighting from the 50s) desn't look too futuristic either. In any case, glad you liked the video.
