This set of variations on the passemezzo antico chord progression by John Johnson, lutenist to Elizabeth I, has moments of haunting beauty and creative use of the musical textures available on the lute which translates well to the guitar.
Queen Elizabeth's Galliard
Переглядів 120Рік тому
Classical guitarist Alan Rinehart delights and keeps the mood light with his performance of Queen Elizabeth's Galliard by John Dowland. This transcription is well suited for the guitar, and contains all of the necessary elements without being overly burdened by embellishments. Alan plays with a sweet and robust tone. He approaches the piece with confidence and a calm demeanor. His sound makes t...

Great throwback Alan! 👏🏼👏🏼
Thanks for sharing! I've always loved hearing you play, tried getting ahold of you during covid, but I was just learning how to use my computer,😬😶🌫️-really liked the subtle nuances in this piece, really beautiful. 😍Appreciate it. Thanks Alan 🙋😊
Thank you so much! ewenn? Is that Erland? If it is, a hearty hello to you, I hope you are doing well!

Bravo Alan!
Bravo Alan!
Thank you! Thank you!
Nice work - very clear voices.
Thanks, Phil!
Beautiful!
Thank you so much!
Sounds great 30 years later. Not easy pieces to play and you pull it off with flair Alan. It truly is like a trip down memory lane, I envision a young myself and some other guitar students in the audience, likely just having grabbed a coffee and cinnamon bun at the cafeteria in the old auditorium.
Thanks, Peter!
Nice memory Alan!
Kohno? I was just preparing to ship mine in for restoration .
That's my 75 Kohno 15, still my go to guitar often, despite some dings and playing wear. It has great balance and voicing.
Bravo! I am listening to this via my new Sennheiser headphones. Beautiful.
Thank you so much, Bob! I hope you are both well and enjoying Spring :)
Jeff Beck has a really nice arrangement of it if I remember right.
Lovely playing with a sweet tone. Great memories, thanks Alan!
Thank you so much, Peter. Your feedback is always valued greatly by me!
Quite nice Pavan. Thanks for sharing, Alan!
Always great to hear you play Alan, a nice sounding guitar as well!
That was delightful, Alan. It's been many years since I've seen you play. Please make more vids.
Sounds like Steve Howe. lol
Nice compliment! :)

Thank you, Vitor!

Cool effect (even if by chance) cool performance footage (great that you have old video and recordings, wish I had done that) and cool stash. Thanks for sharing this stuff
Thanks, David, have a very Happy Holiday!
Hi Alan - Just as I am trying those two studies out again (working backwards) this video pops up at the right time..great performance, bravo! I always found them quite hard to play through. I like the trippy video effect at the end too -
Thanks Peter, I've had this video for ages and finally got around to doing something with it-back in those days I didn't do #11 with the additional MS changes but do now...I have no idea what happened at the end (as much as I would like to take credit for the trippy effect, I can't!)
@@guitaralan sometimes things work out by chance - the sound quality is surprisingly good throughout for a 40 year old video. But, I'm convinced it's because your tone and approach is superb. Truly, hats off for a stellar performance! I'm a bit overdue for listening to your more recent recordings (I have little time for quality listening) but will do so over the holidays.
Thanks, Peter! Alas, the effect was not intentional...
Sounds beautiful Alan! So clear and musical. I'm trying to recall if I was there - such great music.
Thank you so much Peter! I'm thrilled that you are getting back on the 'boards' yourself and performing with the VGO. Anna is doing a great job with the ensemble and I know a musician of your quality is highly valued in the group.
@@guitaralan we talked about you a few days ago. It would be great to have you perform again in town - I definitely would like to hear you again!
Very nice...👍
