Thank you for being a true patriotic American. That was awesome.
I got 2 sections out of place but you should be able to figure it out.
I always enjoy seeing others shooting boxes and what they have in them. Thanks for this vid.
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! Chasing Spiders has helped me more than you’ll ever know. Also enjoy everything about how he goes about making a video. Keep up the great work and GOD bless.
good tip, thanks!
Pretty clever. Often wondered if there might be a formula, never would have figured it out on my own. I was using trial and error...
That little recess in the short starter also let's you know the sprue is pointing straight up.
Forget the negative comments, these are great vids, keep them coming. Would be interesting to see the amount of ball damage with a loading taper at the muzzle end to compare against the others.
That question has been raised before and we are working on it.
Question: where is the black 2nd circle behind the white dot used to aim the rear sight or are you aiming the rear sight to the pin head?
I have changed to just using a black background and a white dot.The pinhead sits in a square base at the front. I have a notch in the rear sight that fits the front base . Think of it as a regular blade front sight and notch rear sight but the front "blade" is wider than normal. I line the front base and rear notch up and put the pinhead on the white dot.I never took to that dot sitting down in a round bottom rear notch . My eyes don't work that way I guess. As for the colored backgrounds you see with a round black circle and a white dot, from most everyone I talked to using them, the colors were soothing to the eyes. When my eyes tire if they do tire I just close them a few seconds while down on the gun. My thinking was why bother with a color, you still ended up with a white dot inside a black background. All our eyes are different . Try different setups and see what you like.
@ thanks for the clarification.
Great vid, thx! Keep em coming...
I'll add something. See those little tags of white left from when I peeled the first white spot off ? (it was glued on). You can actually see how those mess up the "glow" of light from back in your shooting position. Don't do that. If you must, make sure to cover hose with a Sharpie. I tried but did not go far enough. Little things mean a lot.
Info on ordering the book, please?
There is no book. It's a running joke a friend started. Only the videos here
Thanks for the video and information Tim.
Thanks this was very helpful to get me started.
Thank you for taking your time to explain this to us.
How far off are the targets ? Also what are you shooting at ?
60 yds and shooting at a black X on a white paper.
I said this years York. No, it was year before. I done much better this year..............contrary to what the "official/ unofficial " score sheet says. LOL, but maybe crying a little bit.
I should have said when the light goes down you may need to put a LARGER white dot up. Not smaller.
I'll take that flyer any day.
I said 10 inches, I meant 10 shots
Thanks for the info !
That was a helpful tip.
Enjoying your series on various aspects of chunk gun world.
I like short simple practical tip videos like this one. Good job !
Good idea!
OK, I need to clarify something. On the peep sight I used the word "tube". It's not a tube. It's a folded over piece of metal that sits down in the peep to block the Sun at our local club. Our range faces right into the Sun when we shoot in the mornings. IT IS NOT A TUBE SIGHT, just a shader. Nothing more, nothing less. And it just sits on there so if I ever shoot at Friendship (which I won't) I can take it off. That range faces proper North.
enjoy your viedos goinig in april to coon for my first chunk shoot
Enjoyed this vid, good job!
I’ve been shooting Muzzleloaders in completion since 1976. You did an excellent job with this video…..Wish one like it had been available way back then!
Thanks a bunch !
Excellent information!
Thanks. Part 2 answered my rear sight question .
I understand the “glow” concept and the pin head front sight, but what rear sight system goes best with the pin head front? Thanks
Just a U shaped notch in the rear sight. One that you can sit the pinhead down in and have the top half of the pinhead sitting on top. ie: cut the pinhead in half.
In the video I am wearing a "glove" on my left hand. It is just protection for the back of my hand. When you get old the skin gets thin and the gun cuts into it under recoil. I never implied this was something you can do at a shoot. Not sure why you would not be able to, as there is no competitive advantage to it. Just an old guy trying to protect his hand all the while promoting chunk gun shooting.Sorry for any misunderstanding.
I have been advised by the Alvin York Shoot that it DOES NOT allow anything under your mat. You''l just have to find a level spot to shoot from. I was speaking from a generic sense but at least now you know.
glad you are doing this THANKS
This helped me immensely!
