I dunno how you do it but god this is cool. I’m trying to be better and this channel will help a lot. How do you usually work on your stuff?
thank! I can talk about it briefly: When I transcribe, I typically transcribe a movement or two at a time (I just get in zone.) Having two monitors helps a TON, as the video can be on one monitor and the music on another. The best help for transcribing is experience in playing and transcribing. Basically, the more you know about marching percussion writing, the better you will be at recognizing patterns, rhythms, stickings, etc. So if you want to get better at transcribing -- transcribe! I was no where as good as I am now when I started, and I only started on a whim. Another aspect that will help is transcribing music from a writer that you are familiar with. In this video I transcribe Colin McNutt's music, which I am VERY familiar with, so it is easy for me to know what is being played. Sticking with a writer or a group could be helpful. Check out the /r/DrumlineSheets subreddit as there is a "Transcription Help" wiki link that outlines specific advice and help. I hope to see your transcriptions!
