Many, many years ago, I was with my family traveling by car and we stopped in Indio at Shields Date Gardens in early August. It was 125° F that day when we stepped out of the car and thought we were going to be baked alive. We quickly got inside the building and proceeded to stay there for a couple hours under the AC and let the car cool down for a while. While we were there, we saw the film the sex life of the dates and I had my first date shake there that day. I was addicted to those shakes after that and I still remember that day very vividly.
I celebrated one of my birthdays at Shields. They gave me a free date shake. It was good too.
The plains are alluring in a mysterious sort of way
Absolutely.

It looks so interesting! I lived in Comanche Texas as a kid and a date tree was across the street and my dad leased the land it was on for raising calves and we used to eat the dates fresh. So good. Never had a date shake though.
Childhood memories are great.

_Marvelous footage._
Thank you! Hope you are watching my other informative and fun videos.
How lovely! An unexpected little bit of a family history from years ago. So glad it was restored even if the business is no more. So many years of seed catalogs and garden planning and growing.

I have a copy of their track notes. Its pretty kool to look at their thoughts as they trekked the west. Library was boxing and tossing hundreds of historica resource books about 29 years ago, me and a friends saved 200 of them. We talked about them about to change history.. we were right. My grandkids learn bs on historical events. But . I HAVE THESE BOOKS!! so they dont buy it. And they were taught by us elders to mot use Wikipedia but the encyclopedia brittanica my grandmother bought for all her grandkids. She was a lunch lady in the 40 thru 70s and saw many changes in what the kids were nteing taught , so my grampa had her get a copy of three different encyclopedias, and lexicons .. Turns us all on to public library resource sections that held books 300 years old. My brother showed me the JOURNAL section. All handwritten donated journals back to the 1700s. Todays versions being given to our kids do not match the settlers views of happenings. And the journal opinions do match, no matter where the person was .. I wish id known those journals would be removed snd BURNED. from every public library in the country. If yours still have any, ask maybe in storage, and make sure they fo mot disappear . I read as a kid a couple that spoke about NEW CITIES? Lol and they believed they were recently built, no idea they were FOUNDed) But many gothic and toman and stone buildings WERE ALREADY HERE! and settlers were steered around them going west.
Excellent. Spread the word. Watch my Architectural Playlist.
I need to find a different word other than wow. Impressive!
Astonishing might work.

Did you see the Tarantula thing was like a Rat
I love the hymnarium, all the pictures. Peggy in Tucson.
That place was amazing.
I always wondered where the barber pole came from. To think it represents a swirl of blood from the blood letting is kind of creepy. I knew barbers were also surgeons, but I didn't know they only did blood letting. Interesting--thanks for this info. Peggy from Tucson.
It is an in depth history.
You know I'm a bit partial but Utah is the most diverse and beautiful 😍
Only behind California. I LOVE UTAH.

I wonder if Webster knew what a flip flop is!?
Nope. He wore those ugly black buckle shoes. LOL
I found this bit of history mind-boggling to take a stone building apart without destroying the stones & transport them across the ocean when ships & weather technology weren't what they are today to reassemble the stones. Thank you for this & other unclassic road trips.
Truly incredible.

I've been to the arch but before the museum was built, so I'll have to go again. Thanks for the great views! Peggy from Tucson.
Yes, you do.
_This video is a fascinating trip through history. The barber pole's significance is amazing. Thanks for sharing this inspiring piece of history! _

Were these people native Americans? I've seen them do it
No they were not. They were volunteers at the park.
Best steak I’ve eaten in my life was in Cheyenne
That's a beautiful statue... It's crazy to think the men of the old West would have established a woman as a judge, but she must have been very fair in her judgements. Great story!
Apparently she was.

I did state that the capital is Montgomery within the text associated with the video.

I’ve been once to the arch
Let's go on a road trip! That would be fun.
Decent video but I have to point out that through all the historical tidbits you gave out the name of the capitol city was not one of them. Now, I know that it’s Montgomery (it’s my last name) but many of your viewers might not know. Especially young or international prospective subscribers. Just pointing this faux pax out to you.
Not really a faux pax, more like a challenge "the kids" are intriged...probably want to look it up for themselves. What is the state capital of Alabama? You could even ask chat GPT!
Oops.
