'WAR CRIMINAL' - The Art Of Resistance

'War Criminal' - mixed media on canvas 120cm x 80cm When Tony Blair was first elected Leader of the Labour Party I had the dubious pleasure of photographing him on a number of occasions. Following the publication of the Chilcot report I decided to resurrect one of those images and put it to good use. Hazuan Hashim painted the words ‘War criminal’ in Arabic over the image of Blair with the Ameri...

I'm Explaining a few Things... About Gaza The Art Of Resistance presents: There is a climate of intimidation concerning criticism of Israel. Anyone who speaks out about the Gaza genocide, particularly creative figures, is certain to suffer media attack. Roger Waters is probably the best known example. Eighty years ago, the treatment of the great Nobel prize winning poet, Pablo Neruda, was simil...

I’ve been photographing politicians for over 40 years. The images have served as a source for political satire. In 2003 I held an exhibition called Comrades. It’s subject was the Labour government of the day. Here you have Tony Blair next to the stars & stripes - indicating his support for the illegal war in Iraq that cost millions of innocent lives. When Corbyn was elected leader the media and...

Lovely video. The only thing missing was the crack pipe.
Try reading ‘Secret Liverpool’ by Mike Keating. Learn more about the City.
Fantastic days, you could actually take lovely pics of children without getting arrested.
Not one shot of Ringo.
name the sites
The two old fellas in their flat caps & scarves have gotta be ex dockers
Love my city 🥰 Love the people 😍
Great video the 2 old fellas sitting in the pub the one on the left his name is Tommy he sat with my nan for years in a pub my mum and dad run called the croxteth on lodge lane.
It'll be a kebab shop now
No. Mate still a pub.
@@johngeddes4863 The public baths went. The public library went and the other public houses went. It won't be long before that one goes. They like mosques and kebab houses in that community, not public houses
I have spent ten years in Liverpool to date, both as a student and later in employment and I JUST LOVE IT.....
Biggest shithouse in Western Europe.
7:26 Paddington comprehensive school on the left as it was known then and the mount Vernon pub. Grew up in Kenny and Drank in their a few times. Looking towards the university and Cathedral.
Growing up in the Old Fort Prescott Street 1972-79 this is my era. Brought a lot of memories back. Liverpool stil a bomb site old men in pubs old women in the market and posters we use to peel off whilst still wet and stick them on our bedroom wall. There was still dignity with poverty in Liverpool in those days.
Yup , my Dad proved it back in 1971 when he left the Merchant Navy and started his own Business’s ;)
I was born in 72 lovely to have memories from my childhood .
Keeping the money away from the people. Clever control tactic
Superb. An excellent look of those living in the East End.
A very interesting programme.Pretty much all of the characters have interesting stories to tell and the imagery is super. The singing of Oranges and Lemons by soprano Una Barry is truly fantastic. 10/10 and the piano accompaniment was also brilliant.I would love to have a full audio copy of this singing performance, but have so far struggled to find it. There should be more programmes like this. I can immerse myself into this sort of thing - Lovely!
A lovely programme.I could sit and talk to Les Eldon for hours.Seems like a smashing fella. In the previous episode, I was enchanted by the soprano singing of Una Barry. What a fantastic voice she has. That version of Oranges and Lemons (and the super piano accompaniment) was truly spellbinding. BRAVO!
1.29 that is earle rd L7
Yes and Earle Road School was still there, I used to live in Cantsfield Street which is sadly no longer, its underneath the new School. Also I lived in Corney Street and the Earle Marshall is still there but No Mulliner,Salisbury or Waldek turned into student flats. The amount of pubs that closed when they banned smoking is such a shame.
@@stephenjones9153 i agree! i loved the Mulliner too many lost Pubs in Liverpool the Spofforth was good as well and The Earl (the dead house)
I recon earl road is L15

Excellent videos. Thanks so much for sharing them. ✌🏼🌎
4:46 YES! We need to do better by our children....that’s all of us...worldwide. We spend so much time looking OUTward. Blaming each other. Hating each other regardless of never having met the very people we vilify. First, nurture and cherish your children. They’ll learn to love because you were their first example. Or...they’ll learn to hate people that are different because they’ve learned it from you. All of this hatred and discord is just exhausting and counterproductive.
We need guardian trains trams buses just not safe on public transport
Flat capped scouser gets out his 1973 speech. The old ones are the best.
Where can I see this film?
Mint Julips I remember them they were good. .Tredegar Square houses/flats there costs anything from £650,000 to a million or more. There is only 1 cinema complex in Tower Hamlets it's in West India Quay.
St George's Estate, know it well my friend and her family were moved into Noble Court Cable Street under the Slum Clearance programme. Her Mum came from Montserrat her Dad was from Jamaica he buggered off when my friend was 2. Her Mum had 4 of them to bring up, fortunately she met a wonderful man and spent the rest of her life with him until he died. She died this year in April. It was a big shock.
The Jewish left the area ages ago there were hardly any left in 2014.
Spitalfield fruit and veg market long gone. The whole area has been gentrified Most of the traditional pubs in Tower Hamlets are long gone.
I remember that pub, i was a Special Constable based st Leman Street and on patrol in Brick Lane when I got called to go and sort out a drunk. By the time I got there he had gone and I found him laying on the road in Brick Lane obstructing the traffic. He wouldn't get up so i had to radio for the van to come and get him. It took 4 of us to get him into the van. What a laugh we had. He was Irish and sang songs on the way back to the nick, and continued for about 2 hours much to the dismay of the other people in the cells.
The biggest community in Tower Hamlets is Bangladeshi (from Syhlet). Then it's Somalians then a mixture of others. Most of the Afro Carribeans moved out ages ago. In Newham it's majority Pakistani and Bangladeshi and a small mixture of others. Barking is now like a mini Africa I remember the News International strike. I lived in Wapping opposite the River Police station. Was there until December 2014 when I decided to join my brother who moved to Germany in 1979 and worked as a carpenter.. Roman Road, Whitechapel, Chrisp Street markets are nothing like they used to be. Spitalfields market is good, very upmarket now. All very different now to when this film was made.
brilliant x
