NaNoWriMo 2019 Week 1 | Flu & Falling Behind - But Still Hopeful!
I am happy to find this video honestly I get so many ideas and I been starting a short novel and I take forever to finish anything but I decided to get back to it and write and been writing since I was young and I never finish anything I start it’s hard for me I guess. But I am really hoping this year I can finish what I started 🥹 so this is encouraging
I’m glad this was encouraging! Definitely push through to the end of a draft. It’s so worth it
Your dog is soo cute
Thank you! 🐶 💛
I'm on year five...and starting to despair noooo
Some stories take longer than others. Keep pushing, you’ve got this!
I needed this! I've been trying to write a book for five years 😢! I've been wanting to write and epic high fantasy! But I always doubt which direction to go. Sometimes I think a certain plot seems better at the expense of the protagonist, other times I try to feel the protagonist want but don't know where she's supposed to go. For some reason I can't let it go. Even when there are days I want to give up on it because nothing has gone forward, it comes back. I've learned so far that everything goes into growing you more and nothing is a waste of time. Even thinking is not a waste of time. Everything can be used as self improvement!
If the story sticks with you, you should keep pursuing it 💛 Have you tried outlining? It might help you make it through the first draft
@nataliejaneshields I've been trying! But I try to feel what the character's feeling but there are many days when it's not clear. I'm trying to not let plot take over. Sometimes I get confused if plot controls the outline or the character.
I’d recommend just picking a story path-even if it’s wrong. Just get to “The End” so that you can see the whole story from a bird’s eye view and actually determine what’s wrong
@nataliejaneshields thank you so much!!! I don't know why I have a hard time making decisions. I suppose I was afraid of being wrong. 🫠 It must be a symptom of perfectionism. 🫠
I know I'm just some rando guy on the internet, but I'm proud of you. You've done what most people only dream about about doing. It takes A LOT of work to complete a book. Congratulations on your achievement. I wish you all the success in the world. :)
Thank you Eric 🥹 It was a lot of work, and I’m proud of myself too! It was a hurdle that I just needed to get over to move on-I’m already 40k into a different book I started in November!
Love this Natalie! So proud of you!
Thank you! 💛
YOU SUMMONING ME LIKE IM A GHOST IM DEAD
Brielle, are you here with us today? 👀 👻 😂
I wasn’t very active in November but I did buy a copy of save the cat which I started to anotate and I also brought Stephen kings book on writing and I’m hoping both books will help me get back into my stand alone books (6 of them atm) I don’t really have a name for it so I’ll call it “The Brewsters” I have all six outlines but none of them finished. I LOVE your channel
Aww thank you! 😊
Looking forward to your lives this month! 🎉
Yay! See you in the chat 😊
You were so active on here in November too!! Proud of you for all the progress you're making in all your endeavors <3
Hey hey 😏 great video! - Gab
Hey thanks 😏
I know you're still toying with how to pitch project A but I LOVE your current pitch! you did amazing this month 💕 love how you kept track of everything and community accountability is so helpful
Aw thank you!
The only thing about changing POVs in different sections is it feels like the reader needs a warning that is going to happen. Because I get really confused when quarter of the way through a book the character or timeline switches.
omg this was so so fun!!
It was a BLAST! You have to join next time 👀
Hi all! I'm looking for writer friends too. In person would be awesome if you're in NYC, but online is good too! Could just have a coffee over Zoom sometime to say hi and chat about our projects to see if we connect and want be writing buddies. I've written several novels (lit fic and fantasy), but my current fantasy project is the first one I actually want to try to publish. I'm so excited about it! Hope to meet some of you. :)
Ooh I love your spreadsheet!
@@JadeJuniiper thank you!
I wanted to ask one thing, if I wanted to start writing, how and when should I ?
I say start now! If there is a story idea in your head, just start writing what you want to happen in the story. That can be your outline. Then start again, this time adding description and dialogue. That’s your first draft. Then continue to go through and make every version better than the last. Hope that helps!
Tried to watch the premiere but was interrupted. Just rewatched. 😊 awesome that you and Taylor could get together physically. um, err, in person. Great to have a close critique partner 😊
It was definitely great to meet her in person!
you crushed it this november!! 💖
Thank you 🥹
english is my 2nd language, any tips for me for writing, i learned english from sitcoms books and movies, is there something else i need to do??
If you’re writing fiction, I would recommend writing in your native language first, and translating later! That way the words are an exact match for what you want to say, and you can have help from someone else to find the right English words to translate it. Hope that helps!
@nataliejaneshields oh, that's pretty smart actually, will try that, thanks
I recently started my sci fi story, it’s always been something I’ve thought about for years but never put forth the effort until now. I have my ideas, outlines, settings and characters written, and now it’s time to do the draft. Thank you for this video it really helps a lot
So exciting!! You’ve got this 💪🏼
Same 😂
Absolutely brilliant! Well done!
Thank you Emma! 😊
HEYY!! This video is so motivating, thank you so much for putting your time and making this! I’m writing a thriller/mystery novel that I’m currently 40k words into. I’m 14 years old and it took me a year to finally start writing. I just subscribed and I’m excited to see the rest of your journey!
Thank you! I was 14 when I finished my first novel ever! 💛
This is wonderful Natalie! Hope your writing is going well!
Thank you! I’m actually hitting my stride and writing is going really well 👀
Right now, I am trying to write a Sleeping Beauty retalling with a Mohawk (Iroquois) has a mage. The young Mohawk goes to Paris to learn his first spell and in a twist of fate, awaked a Spanish princess. While living in modern times, both of them goes on a trial to help her rehome her French estate... This story is one of the many dream I had and now try to put into words. I'm from Québec and I speak french, so my english migth be a bit bad. But anyway, I'm thankful for your video. Bye!
Your story sounds fascinating!! I hope your writing goes well!
Great lessons here! These are super helpful for new writers to know and for more seasoned writers to be reminded of!
Thank you! 💛
Loving your content, Natalie!
Thanks Isabella! 💛
I have adhd. This level of prep would exhaust me 😅 I just sit down and hyper-fixate for 12 hours, forget to eat and words appear in the page better than anything I’ve planned in the one sentence per chapter “outline”
Honestly sometimes I wish I had that superpower 😅
🥳 congrats!!! got me motivated to get going with my own book
Oh yay! You’ve got this 💪🏼
I'll look at your face makeup or not with joy! Thanks for showing up for the channel no matter what :)
Love this video! I love to write a mixture of things but I love writing poetry and next would be short stories.
That’s so cool! I love poetry but will openly admit I’m not good at it-those poems are probably for my eyes only!
I’m starting to find my love for writing again…it’s exciting but also challenging. With having to work a part time job and also finding time out of family obligations to sit down and write once the urge strikes me. I’m working on a Coming of age urban fantasy that’s been stuck at the forefront of my mind since I was in high school. I’m determined more than ever see it through.
You’ve got this 💪🏼 It can be so difficult to find time to dedicate to creativity when life is overwhelming. I’ll be praying you find some extra time in your week!
Wow! I really love this idea. I'm trying to hit 50,000 words this month; I fell behind schedule and it's been a struggle since. Your video has inspired me to go for a big-day-goal. Maybe I'll even work up the courage to turn on my video. ;)
Yes Amanda! Do it!
Your videos are so calming!
That’s so sweet, thank you! I feel like in my sit down videos I am, and in my vlogs I’m just an agent of chaos 😂
Love the idea of how a story choose you! This is so insightful, so glad to have found your channel Natalie!
Thank you, happy to have you here! 💛
This is a great vlog! It's so hard to get 5k in a day...not impossible...but gosh it's hard! In other news, I would love to collaborate with you sometime!
It’s definitely not easy but it helped having the community behind me! I’m interested, contact me via email or on Instagram!
