This causes a strong spark, aiding starting. Props tend to stop near the trigger point. This means that if one of two magnetos remains un-grounded when the engine is stopped, the slightest movement of that propeller, from wind, slip-stream from another aircraft, or being touched, can, if there's also fuel in the cylinder, fire, throwing the prop around with tremendous force. Propellers should be treated more carefully than fire-arms. Always assume they're highly dangerous, even if the aircraft is unmanned, and the engine is stopped, and put nothing inside of, or forward of the propeller arc, that you're not willing to have finely chopped. <Retired light-aircraft instructor>
