B.B. King & Friends; A Blues Session. 09 Precious Lord (Etta James, Chaka Khan & Gladys Knight)
You probably expected the previous song (Let The Good Times Roll) to be the finale - I did. But then we fade into this gem of a performance...sublime, nothing else needs to be said.
Actually, there was on song remaining they performed- an instrumental jam - but the end credits play over the version I have and it fades out after about a minute (How tv-shows used to treat music..but it's probably on UA-cam complete somewhere) so I decided not to upload it.
Thanks for watching, hope you liked it!

B.B King & Friends; A Blues Session. 08 Let The Good Times Roll (B.B. King & Friends)

Okay, we're getting towards the end now so let's have a jam with everybody on stage at once (Concert Rule No.254). Actually, that's a bit harsh as this doesn't really fall into 'We Are The World' at Live Aid territory. Good enough version of the old blues chestnut, everybody gets their moment in the spotlight...job done.

Chaka Khan...I love you! The song of course is a blues standard, the earliest version I've heard is by Mississippi John Hurt from 1928 although Jimmy Witherspoon had the hit with it in '48? '49?. Great song and you wouldn't mess with Etta James, would you?

Kind of workmanlike (but good) version of the song. I think B.B. King released this as a single at the time which probably explains why it was played instead of something else. Still, any song with these artists performing on it would be worthwhile (how did you guess that I'm not particularly enamoured with this video?)

Albert King & Stevie Ray-Vaughan (R.I.P.) One of the unlikeliest partnerships but proof of what the blues is all about-Don't matter who or what you are, can you play? Their most famous collaboration was the In Session tv-show from 1983 (available complete on youtube somewhere, oh, and on CD (incomplete) as well of course). Albert King, cool as always, although he;s not smoking his pipe-and I ju...

B.B. King & Friends; A Blues Session. 03 The Thrill Is Gone (B.B. King with Eric Clapton)

Yes, it's Eric Clapton playing the blues, but it's GOOD Eric Clapton playing the blues! Obviously the person who taped this played the f k out of this song as evidenced by the sound quality of the tape so sorry about the dips in volume. Makes me laugh how B.B. King thanks Phil Collins at the end (the man is such a pro!)
B.B. King & Friends; A Blues Session. 02 Please Send Me Someone To Love (B.B. King & Gladys Knight)

Gladys Knight, every time I hear her sing it makes me shiver (which is a good thing) and good to see Paul Butterfield on tv (happened far too rarely). 2nd song obviously. If I remember correctly this was composed by Percy Mayfield and popularized by Freddie King, who recorded it on for his Getting Ready album (1971) but left it off - it is available on his King Of The Blues 2 CD though. He also...

Not sure about the rights to this so I'll see if anyone has a problem with me posting this before I upload the rest of it and write a proper description, Thank you. Not sure exactly when this was recorded, but my guess would be late 1986-judging by Eric Clapton's beard, Billy Ocean's jacket and Phil Collins...Only in the mid '80s could you have B.B. King on stage with Albert King (not enough of...

    This performance makes me cry every-time I watch it. The goosebumps simply marches down my arms listening to the dynamics of the band and watching the interaction between Etta James and Dr John (may they both rest in peace). There is more than a spark going on on-stage here, folks! We are witnessing the raw flame of pure soul, expression, friendship and musicality. A rare moment in music, that keeps on giving - even when most of these folks are dead and gone long ago. This BB King show show - and in particular this gem of a performance of 'I´d Rather Go Blind' will always remain on my shortlist of magic moments. May UA-cam preserve it forever.

      Do you have a clue what you're talking about?This is Paul Butterfield,he was out there way before Paul Oscher!

    • @timothylewis2450
      @timothylewis2450 3 роки тому

      No. Both Butterfield and Charlie Musselwhite came before Oscher. Oscher is a great musician and did impressive work with Muddy but he did not join Waters until 1967 at 17. He was Muddy’s first Caucasian band member though. All great harpists but would have to give the edge to either of the older gents over the”kid” now 70 and still playing as is Musselwhite.
